The receiver replaced a higher priced Onkya unit that was struck by lightning. The receiver gives great sound on all levels and modes of play; it does fall short of inputs that I had been used to, but all in all it handles the tasks that we put it through. A good, well priced basic receiver.

I was a little skeptical about a 50w per channel receiver but seeing this on sale for $299, I decided to make the jump. This replaced my 15 year old Optical receiver. After hooking everything up, I was vet impressed with the sound as this was my first HDMI receiver. Easily handles my B&W M1s.

Great choice. Plenty of power. Easy setup. This is the second marantz in the house. I really like the audssey setup. Pretty much plug and play. Plenty of hdmi connections and the one in the front is nice.

Marantz builds high quality audio gears. Previously I bought a CD player with super quality but the price was too much for a CD player. This receiver is incredibly inexpensive considering you are getting Marantz's quality. Check the THD spec. It is way better than most, if not all, of the systems in <$1000 range, except dedicated 2-channel stereo amplifier. My other set includes a Harmon 5-channel receiver with pre-amp output connected to a Yamaha 2-channel stereo amp for main speakers (B&W). With Marantz, I don't need to use 2-channel stereo amp and it sounded great (with Chario speakers which are hard to find in US.)

Picked it up on sale for about half price, most other recivers are way too big for the space I needed it to fit into. set up was easy, I am NOT an audio file but sounds great to me, not high-powered but I think it will sound better if I have better speakers, impressed with the quality, I could see if you move further up the latter the more features you get. Wish it had bluetooth

I purchased this receiver for my 5.1 HT. I'm using a Parasound 2-channel amplifier to power the front R/L channels (one of the main reasons for the purchase). The 1403 is probably the cheapest receiver with pre-outs as most manufacturers have moved this feature to their higher-end models. The receiver was easy to set up and the Audyssey MultEQ calibration is nice to have especially in my difficult apartment living space. It would be nice to have MultEQ XT (maybe they'll add it to next year's models). There are also plenty of HDMI ports with 5 on the rear and one in the front. The front HDMI port is nice to have for easy connection of a laptop as music server. Great price and sound quality.

Fantastic receiver. Runs very cool in an enclosed cabinet. Powers speakers to levels I thought impossible for 50W per channel. Simple setup, though I skipped the Audigy setup due to the speaker being a sound bar. Couple with a Definitive Technology SSA-50. Fantastic output.

This is a very nice unit, especially for those with multiple hdmi peripherals. On screen set up is a breeze. Unit automatically detects and plays incoming digital streams. Sound quality is a big step up from the 10year old unit this replaces. I did try the Audyssey automated speaker set up , but wound up readjusting manually. It is easy enough to review Audyssey's parameters and make changes.

This receiver replaced a Harman Kardon receiver which was much more complicated to setup and use - The Marantz NR1403 is easy to setup with a very uncluttered and straight forward back panel. The easy to use Audyssey speaker setup is very accurate. The sound quality equals the Harman Kardon reveiver.

I purchased this unit to replace a Denon which I had for many years. The fact that the Marantz had a preamp front L R feature sold me. I owned a pair of old Fried Beta speakers that I always enjoyed I paired them with a Nikko Alpa amp. With this setup I can listen to music (stereo) on my old speakers and amp using the Marantz as a preamp. also the Frieds work great as front surround speakers. I have Klipsch center rear and powered sub, The Audessey set up system is amazing. Even with my somewhat complicated system it had no problem. It even caught that I had crossed the wires on my center channel speaker. In short I like the unit very much. It suits my needs perfecly.

Replace my old HK with this. Sound quality is excellent, hookup easy, and chose for the pre-outs for main channel to run through external amp for front/main channel..

I bought this because of limited space requirements. I needed a small receiver that was 5.1. Set-up on this receiver was very easy. The Marantz name put it over the top and made buying this receiver an easy decision!

I LOVE THIS RECEIVER. Everything from the $400 price to the crisp clear sound is just outstanding. The connection ports for the speakers are a bit annoying to get the wires in but other than that its amazing. I would definitly buy it again.
