I made the jump to this receiver unit after purchasing my Xbox One "X" edition gaming console, I purchased that and was sadden when I found out that my old A/V receiver (previous iteration) did NOT support HDR10... So I made the upgrade to this model. Setup was super simple, there are a view upgrades that would go over many people heads but the sound quality and video reproduction holds true to what you'd expect from a mid tier Marantz unit such as this. My speaker configuration is 7.2, with me having another set of tower speakers in another part of my home, so this unit does a great job of not only powering my theater room but also giving me great stereo output in my library as well. I'd recommend this for any person looking to get into some great audio/video.

After doing 3 weeks of extensive research and learning every spec that the different AVR's have to offer I decided this offered the best of everything. First of all this is more expensive then other ones with similar specs. You have to understand the build quality or a Marantz product is superior to the Pioneer and even Dennon which is owned by Marantz. The clarity of this unit is better than most. After owning an older Marantz 7008 I was very pleased with it and decided to stay with the newer and better model. Plus this one has the Auro 3D built in without having to pay the $200 upgrade in other brands or older Marantz receivers. Love it.

I have had many AVR’s over the years from various manufacturers, technology marches on so it’s a necessity to replace your receiver every few years if you want to latest and greatest. I had a 2 year old receiver from another brand and have never had Marantz. Boy did I not know what I was missing. From the build quality (this thing feels like a tank) to the 4K upscaling passthrough and the 8 HDMI inputs / 3 Outputs it just feels so substantial and the performance lives up to its appearance. Speaker posts allow you to connect via stripped wire ends and also use banana plugs which I prefer. You have a myriad of choices in speaker configuration and in order to best take advantage of what this AVR can do Id suggest having one of the Atmos configurations. I have the Atmos configuration with the two front Atmos Height speakers. You also have choices for two other zones, I have this as a dedicated Home Theater AVR. The setup menu takes you through connecting speakers and components step by step if you need that. I connected everything, went through the set up and then launched the Audyssey calibration which much like other calibration programs generates tones to measure and adjust speaker output. There is an Audyssey App available for $20 from the Google or Apple app stores, I would recommend downloading this and using it for your initial calibration as it allows further fine tuning by the user. 4K passthrough and upscaling are phenomenal, and you just can’t go wrong with this top notch AVR. Ok so its all connected and calibrated…now how does it sound? In a word SPECTACULAR, the sound quality and clarity are amazing, if you are not pleased with how it sounds you have the options I mentioned above to tweak to your liking but pretty much right after doing the calibration you are close to perfect. If you are looking…stop and just buy…you wont be disappointed.

This receiver is exactly the same as the SR 7011, but is $800 more, does not have an HD radio, and does not require $200 to upgrade to Auro 3D.
