So the game is great in every way, because battle mode doesn't exist anyways. It's beautiful, keeps the best items from past games and adds a few new ones, the cart customization and character variety are great, it's difficulty curve is just right as you race through the different speed classes, and the controls are smooth and intuitive. The hover mode and flight modes work wonderfully and change the game mechanics in places. What else to say, it's Mario Kart! (please refrain from angering the Luigi)

I played Mario Kart on the N64, Nintendo 3DS, and the original SNES version on wii VC. It really shines on Wii U with its HD graphics, and a few newer tracks. Also like the online mode just like in Mario Kart 7 where you battle or race against about the whole world. The battle tracks act like race tracks but you can go in any direction to attack other racers. One thing I don't care for are the baby characters, but overall it's a great Mario Kart racer we all know and love.

This is one of the games that any WiiU owner has to have. The gameplay is stunningly smooth. There are a variety of items, new and old, that make this more than just a simple mario styled racing game. The new, anti gravity system allows for a whole new perspective on racing games as you will race completely upside down or on a vertical wall. Coupled with an impressive amount of customization and characters, this makes for the most expansive Mario Kart game to date.

First, I'm a huge fan of the franchise. So naturally I had to buy this game. I can honestly say, this is the best and only good game that's not a remake for the Wii U (Super Smash U is close...). The game overall is absolutely beautiful. Many new/remade maps, great characters and even Link is in it (DLC which is major BS). I love this game and can't wait to see the next installment!!! Too bad this will be the only MK title for the U.

This is an excellent edition to the Mario Kart series, and the first one I've really enjoyed since the original back on the SNES. The levels are well-designed, the characters are fun to watch, and it's just awesome to play, particularly with friends. You can even play as the seven koopalings for the first time ever. The only real downsides are its high cost (which to be fair, is typical for a console game) and slow load times.

Great game. Best Mario Kart ever. The graphics are better than most PS4 or Xbox One games. The controls are good and the game is a blast with 2 or more players.

This game seems to take a little bit from all past Mario Karts. It is a blast to play. The one option that I don't like that they removed from the last one was being able to have 2 special objections in your possession at a time, this one will only allow you to have one and does not let you pick up another box until you use the object. The characters and karts are all great options in this edition.

The gameplay is top notch and the graphics are the best and top anything that's out on any other console. The music is superb. Their is so much detail in the background and how the characters move and the tracks are some of the best made in the Mario Kart series. The online is SOO addicting. You get so much replay value out of this. If you're on the fence about it you need to jump off it and buy it.

So far, I would have to say I've enjoyed very much the most recent addition of Mario Kart. As a owner of all the other games in the series, Mario Kart 8 is a great addition to the series. The new additions are great (such as the off-TV play, new characters, the music, new tracks and updated older tracks). I highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys Mario, racing games or just a fun, good time.

This is the best Mario Kart game to date! The track selection is awesome, the characters are numerous and each have their own voice overs and reactions, the kart customizations rock, the controls are tight, and the graphics are almost too good to believe. If you don't have a Wii U buy one and get this game! If you do own a Wii U you probably already have this game and know what I'm talking about.

What a great new installment in the Mario Kart franchise! I love most of the new tracks, and the addition of the Kooplaings as characters was a great move. Lemmy Koopa quickly became a favorite character of mine. Many of my favorite tracks return from previous Mario Kart games, including revamped versions of Toad's Turnpike, Music Park and Yoshi Valley. There are also other new characters, karts and kart additions to unlock as well as stamps to use on miiverse. I was a bit sad to see an old favorite game mechanic tossed aside. You no longer have the ability to carry an item behind your kart for protection and still pick up a new item in your box. However, I understand why it was removed, as it disallows online players to stock up on powerful items and constantly wail them at opponents. The only other downside is I can see how many of the newer tracks could possibly affect people who are susceptible to motion sickness. The constant shifting of camera angles even to the point of driving upside-down has even made me slightly dizzy at times. Mario Kart 8 will definitely become a favorite in the series. There isn't much to complain about here. The game is fast paced as a racing game should be, looks amazing, and the online play seems more streamlined than previous versions. If you enjoyed any of the previous games, then this one will not disappoint!

I'm biased, I love Mario Kart, but playing this version, especially with its new coat of HD paint, its looks amazing, actually makes it more immersive to me!!! Controls are as smooth as ever....the only gripe I have is that they changed the battle mode from an arena style to an actual race course...hmmmm....the arenas were fun....bring back as an update please!!

All new tracks, familiar controls. Lots of fun with friends! Hot game.

This is a great and exciting game to play. It is fun for gamers of all ages. There are many different tracks and players to unlock. We all battle each other for the win! It is fun to play with the additional accessory of the game wheel sold separately. It is a must have game for everyone that has the Wii U console. I would recommend this purchase for everyone.

Nintendo has finally come out with another Mario Kart game. Similar to the newest DS version, Mario Kart 8 is a home run for fans of the franchise. It brings back some familiar faces and brings a few new ones as well. There is a mixture of returning and new maps but most of the returning maps have a new twist since they added the ability to have your kart swim under water and glide through the air (and sometimes ride the walls). MK8 also adds the feature of customizing your vehicle with different wheels and gliders. Most don't have as much of an effect on your driving as the cart/bike/atv option, but I could notice a difference with how I drifted around corners or flew through the air with some options. I was impressed by the soundtrack for some of the levels and the graphics on the WiiU are surprisingly present. Overall this is a great game for anyone who is a fan of Mario Kart. The only problem I have with the game is it still has the problem I've had with all of the games in the series: you can get pummeled if you're in the middle of the pack. item after item will target you. It gets rough once you get to 150cc. Nothing new here. The multiplayer option does allow you to configure the races basically the way you want though.

I love all of the Mario Kart games that have come out in the past, but this one has become my favorite. More tracks to play, more characters, more go kart choices. As you complete races you unlock more characters, tracks, and parts for the go karts. It's fun to play.

If you're a fan of Mario Kart, you will like this new edition. Graphically, there is a huge upgrade from Mario Kart Wii. Controls work great. For me, there's only two things wrong with this game. 1) no mini map on the TV screen. You can have a map on the Wii U gamepad, but I don't have time to look at it. 2) you can't store items the way you could in previous versions. This is a nuisance because your ability to block attacks is greatly diminished. If you hate the blue shell, be warned it's still here. The AI still cheats here and there (for example, when an AI player runs over an item box, they can use the item immediately, when you run over an item box, you have to wait a few seconds to use your item), but it's nowhere near as blatant as Mario Kart 64.

I've always been a fan of Mario Kart and this game does not disappoint! They raised the difficulty of the computers so you are actually challenged to find the shortest routes in each of the courses. The graphics are beautiful and the tracks are insanely cool. Love the new items and new abilities that they have brought into this game!

This game is great for families. I have a 7 year old and a 4 year old. All of us enjoy this game together. You can play up to 4 players at once. There are lots of characters, and vehicle customizations to unlock. For the first couple of weeks, we unlocked something new each time we played. The race tracks in this game are more creative and more fun than any other Mario Kart game. Half of the race tracks are brand new. The other half were taken from older Mario Kart games and modified to work with the new hover-carts. For example, you might be able to drive on a wall or take a new path. All of them feel like brand new tracks. The hover-cart and flying abilities are loads of fun. The replays and powerups are great too. The only thing we don't like is the Battle Mode. It takes place on race tracks instead of in an arena. We like the older arena-style battles from Mario Kart Wii. The Battles on this game are ok, but we have more fun with the racing. We have probably spent 40 hours playing this game and are still enjoying it. If you liked any of the other Mario Kart games, you should buy this one. It's the best one yet.

My kids (15 & 9) have enjoyed the Mario Kart franchise for years. They have both thoroughly enjoyed playing this on the wiiu. They have been most excited about the additional characters and challenging courses. As a parent, I have even enjoyed watching them play due to the amazing graphics. The game is visually stunning!
