COMPACT - BRIGHT SOUNDING BUDS W/SOME ISSUES

MARSHALL - MODE II TRUE WIRELESS HEADPHONE - BLACK Model:1005611 Best Buy Tech Insider Network COMPACT - BRIGHT SOUNDING BUDS W/SOME ISSUES OVERALL: When I first started using the MARSHALL - MODE II (outdoors) I was amazed at how bright the sound was coming from the buds (listening to music). Then I realized the bass was a little weak. So I played with the built in equalizer app and changed to “ROCK” settings and got my bass back but then the brightness was diminished. I played around with the transparency mode and turned it all the way off, but honestly, I could not tell any difference. As I switched back and forth between the MARSHALL - MODE II buds and my other buds (4 pair). The MARSHALL - MODE II continued to drop down the list in my personal taste. Ranking third out of my 4 pair. Once I moved my testing indoors in a little more controlled environment, it only reinforced my previous assessment. SETUP: When I opened the case my phone (android) immediately found and paired the buds, then prompted me to install the phone app, which I did. So setup was very easy. COMFORT: The MARSHALL - MODE II buds are very small, which generally is good, but I had a hard time handling them with my large hands. Even with the largest pads, they did not feel secure, and I dropped them several times. TESTING: Generally, I’m testing with blues albums to get the bass and highs. When I paired the MARSHALL - MODE II with my new 2022 TV, there was a constant popping sound in the left ear bud. It was not usable for listening from the TV. Once I noticed that popping/clicking, I could hear it even from my phone, although it was much much fainter. I could not get any touch controls to work. It did not matter what setting I had in the app. I even told the phone to “forget” the MARSHALL - MODE II and then readded them. CONCLUSION / RECOMMENDATION OK, this review sounds harsh, but it is written in the context of a premium sound device from a premium maker. There is a lot going for the MARSHALL - MODE II. If we take away the touch controls not working for me and assume it just some setting on my side causing the issue, they are “pretty good” ear buds. I like that they are compact and nearly invisible. I like that the sound overall is bright and lively. Hopefully a future firmware update will fix the TV compatibility issue. I would recommend them for testing, as long as you are able to return them if the above issues don’t get resolved with a future firmware update.

Hello, thanks for the comment and review. Please follow up with the Support Team for assistance with your earbuds, this doesn't sound like the experience as Marshall intended it to be.

Sound is better than my standard powerbeats pro and integration and function are also great. Size and design of the charging case are superior (case is smaller and textured and can charge with USB C or wireless). I was also happy with fit and stability. The buds are quite light. Controls are different between right and left but logical. So far have listened to CCM, Rock, Rap, Alternative, Jazz, Classical, Bluegrass and classical. The double tap on left did not activate Siri (may be a setting on my phone as not a an of Siri in general). Right earbud single to play/pause, double and triple tap functional. Of course not the greatest button as you as the tap transmits to your ear drum. Come with 4 bud sizes - the standard worked well for me. The "Marshall Bluetooth" app is required for EQ and firmware updates. In my opinion standard EQ is nice. At the time of this review the app has a 1.7 star rating in the Apple App Store. The Marshall Bluetooth App also supports the excellent Stanmore II which I also own. The app is functional for EQ and stylish. I do not expect much out of bluetooth apps but this is better than most and I am not sure why the rating is low on the app store.

This is a good looking set. There is a touch of class one can see. The factory sent buds have a wonderful feel and have felt comfortable in my ears. Sound Quality: 5 stars. No ANC at this price point is disappointing but the quality of the sound is just wonderful Use the app if you want to tinker with the EQ. I have left it at the factory setting itself as I thought it had the overall good feeling. App: You may not need it but is quite basic but useful. Honestly, with so many headphones I have had to review over the years, apps feel like an extra burden as you don't really need it so much if the factory setting is so well done. With no ANC, the app requirement is minimum. Controls: 4 stars. I have not found a volume control yet. But the tap sequence is clear. Right bud: 2 taps and you go forward 3 taps and you go back 1 tap and you receive a call 2 taps to reject call Bluetooth connection: Here is the problem, at least in the set I received. The initial Bluetooth setup is the fastest I have experienced. You open the box and your device will locate and connect just like that, with your permission of course. However, the range has been awful. Absolutely horrible bluetooth performance if I am more than 15 feet away. It keeps dropping and slipping and at this price-point this is a big deal breaker. Again, I might have gotten a set that might be clunky with the bluetooth but I have to review what I have seen. Honestly, I have had 20 dollar sets that have given me much more dependable bluetooth coverage. 1 star. Call reception and mi: 5 stars. No hiccups here, provided you do not drift away from your device. I am giving it 4 stars but honestly cannot recommend this to my friends, specially at this price-point when the bluetooth performance has been so sub-par.

1 year ownership Review - Airpods Pro compared

    Posted .

I have owned these for over 1 year. I have used them on both iOS, Android, and MacOS. Pros 1) The Audio quality is objectively amazing for earbuds. I own Airpods Pro as well and these sound better IF you have a proper ear seal. 2) The controls are intuitive and function well. 3) The EQ in the app allows you to tweak the sound. 4) The case is perfect. Small and stylish. 5) The earbuds themselves are very stylish IMO. Cons 1) The app! It is required to have the app to use these earbuds. And the problem is that the app fails to function, requiring CONSTANT multi-step re-pairing. This is unacceptable and makes these amazing sound earbuds worthless. 2) Maintaining a good fit/seal (which is required for the excellent sound) is very difficult while exercising. If Marshall fixes their awful app I will order new ear tips to try to achieve a better seal while working out. The big issue is that all earbuds require a great seal to sound good. With a proper seal, these Marshall earbuds sound noticeably better than Airpods pro for music and videos. Thumpy clean bass with better defined clarity in the highs (Some EQ tuning required). However, when I exercise the seal loosens, every time. I have tried multiple tip sizes with the same result. This is due to the design of the earbuds. Your mileage may vary base on ear shape.

Hello, thanks for your comments and feedback. We want to mention that the app is not required to use the Mode II. It is a great add-on and offers firmware updates, but it is not necessary to use the earbuds.

    Marshall's signature sound

Having owned other Marshall products over the years I was very excited when I received these. They did not disappoint. First, to connect these to your phone you must have the Marshall app installed. Once connected I was very pleased with how they sound. I listen to a lot of rock and metal music. These suit that kind of music very well. They have that signature Marshall "crunch" sound. Crisp highs, excellent mid range, and just the right amount of bass. The case looks great, and can be charged wirelessly. The only downside to the case is that you can not tell how much charge it has left. Most manufacturers will show you how much charge you have left. Once I got the right size tips for my ears, I found them to be very comfortable. These are not noise canceling, but they do block out a substantial amount of noise(passive). They do have an option to allow some noise through(TRA), and you can adjust how much to allow. Phone calls automatically activate the TRA mode and unfortunately you can't turn it off. I personally find this annoying. Battery life seems to be on par with what they advertise. Hopefully a firmware or app update can fix the issues I have with them. Likes: 1.) Excellent sound 2.) Fit comfortably in ear 3.) Both the case and the buds are visually appealing Dislikes: 1.)No option to disable in ear detection. 2.) Doesn't show how much charge the case has 3.) Must have app installed to initially connect to your phone.

Hello, thanks for the review. A quick comment that the app does not need to be installed to connect the Mode II to your phone. Use the quick start guide to put the Mode II in pairing mode and then locate them in your phone's list of available Bluetooth devices. Hope this helps.

Very poor audio quality. I really wanted to love these. I love Marshall amps, I have a Marshall bluetooth speaker that sounds great. I just can't believe how horrible these sound. They cut in and out, They snap, crackle and pop They sound tinny. It almost seems like there's just something wrong with them but I've read the same complaints elsewhere. I downloaded the app, installed it just fine. I thought once I played with the EQ within the app, I could get them to sound good. It just didn't happen it, barely noticeable changes using the EQ. I've only used them with my Samsung Galaxy Fold3 and don't really have anything else that I would use them with. These would have been great for my walks in the woods while out taking photos. Was really looking forward to something like this. Total lack of bass. I doubt I'll even try these out again unless I hear of some type of firmware update that fixes this. Sorry Marshall, I really wanted to love these. The case they come in looks really cool though.

Hello, thank you for your review and feedback. One thing is certain, Marshall Headphones would never be designed to have a "lack of bass", we wonder if your headphones could be defective? Please try a factory reset and new setup, does that help? If not, please return the headphones to the store that you purchased them from to discuss an exchange for a new pair. Our apologies for the inconvenience.
