This one's not perfect but with it's amazing storyline the minor flaws are easily overlooked. Negative - Mako (ground vehicle) control can be a little aggrivating, if you're on any slant your weapon fire will be way off making it hard to effectively aim and sometimes the steering is turned around unexpectedly. The third person fighting is a little difficult to grasp, you might die a few times in the beginning but it can still be fun. Positive - Amazing storyline, dialogue options are a very nice touch. The graphics quality is amazing, with very realistic designs. The character development and class choice is very diverse, this gets you motivated to play the game again and again. Good buy, fun to play, you won't be disappointed. I can guarantee you won't say "Man, I shouldn't have gotten this game."

I was excited about Mass Effect from day one. Once I heard about it in a game magazine I couldn't wait for the game itself to come out. After I got my hands on this game I couldn't put it down until I had played it through at least twice. The third time through I was stumped at a certain part simply because it was on the hardest difficulty and I couldn't manage to get past. This game sucks you into a world of science fiction beyond your wildest dreams and makes you want to finish the game just to find out what happens next. When you beat it, you feel like you have accomplished something and that doesn't happen with most games that I have played. This is one of the best games that i have ever played and will easily remain on my top 5 for a long time to come.

    Great Overall Game

Mass Effect is an overall great game. This RPG has great graphics that really show what the Xbox 360 can do. Also, the way that the game plays helps keep the player drawn into the game and want to listen to each cut scene and dialouge. You select how your player is going to answer a question or respond to something someone else says, and that in turn determines how the game plays out and how others react with you. This keeps the player interested in the game. The only lacking that I saw was the actual shooting style. The game sometimes has glitches in the shooting where your shots may fly right through an enemy. It is a very small complaint, but I had to say it. Still, this game is very good and a must buy for anyone that is even somewhat interested in RPG!

    Very ADDICTIVE Role Playing Game!

Mass Effect is not your typical role playing game. The gameplay is SO addicting because the game was made so well (storyline is terrific and voice acting is superb). Combat takes a little getting used to. The use of the Maco vehicle is the game's lowpoint. Very terrible targeting scheme as well as movement control. Other than that, the decisions you are faced are terrific. You can either react or make decisions with morality or answer them like jerk (usually answering messages in a unkind or jerklike manner results in hilarious answers from the character "Shepard" which you are using). Other than that, the REPLAY VALUE is very high. Definitely a keeper. I hope they make a sequel to this game. Best game i've played (that is NOT a pure FPS) this year!

The Greatest Western RPG This Generation

Mass Effect is an action role-playing game developed by Bioware, creators of Baldur's Gate, Jade Empire, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and many other titles. It was developed for the Xbox 360 and PC in 2007. Mass Effect begins with you playing as Commander Shephard. The Commander Shephard you see will be the one you customize (more on that later). Commander Shephard is a inductee into the Galaxy's elite military force, the Spectres. After enduring some unexpected difficulties, the Commander encounters a pervasive and intelligent foe named Saren. Mass Effect is deep. So deep that you can create your own lead protagonist. You can create any human protagonist with four various character classes to choose from. The various character classes can be leveled up in various different ways, These powers directly affect how you handle combat throughout the game. Some characters can use telekinesis while a character from the Soldier class can use a sniper rifle. Because of the various types of interaction specific to each character class, this exponentially enhances the replay value. As the game progresses, Commander Shephard recruits several members to accomplish various tasks throughout the game while tracking Saren. The team ranges from other human counterparts, blue aliens, and a prehistoric character named Wrex, my favorite by far. Bioware further extends variation by implementing its patented dialogue system. There are options to take either a considerate, negative or indifferent approach to many conversations throughout the game. Either choice will illicit a different response from other non-playable characters (NPCs) and garner an aura for your Commander. Many decisions have a lasting impact on members in your crew. Mass Effect does have its technical flaws. While installing the game to the Xbox 360 hard drive minimizes installed times, the load times (during elevator rides) are rather long. Sometimes the ride is soothed with announcements highlighting the escapades of your most recent mission but those events are few and far between. Graphics visually pop-in when loading into new areas. This is truly disheartening considering you just sat through a long wait time. Summarily, Mass Effect is a great game. While this game has its flaws, the themes it executes supercede anything offered before. For $20, it is the best value proposition on any console and is, in my eyes, the best game this generation.

Mass Effect is a very nicely put together game. It is graphically great. It is a lot shorter then it seemed it would be, but a great replay value. As you talk you can change the course of the game. Everything is voice acted which is great because there is a lot of talking. As you play you can choice how to upgrade your teammates as well, this makes it even more different as time goes on. There are side quests you can play that make the game even more in depth. All in all Mass Effect is a great game. I highly recommend at least trying this game out.

i'm not a rpg gamer, but i decided to give this one a try and found it is a good game with a great storyline (the main one). i found the side quests kind of boring but if you want your character to gain level (and some achievements) they're necessary to complete. on the achievement part i think it would be necessary to complete the game about 3 times to get them all. i finished the game at aprox 80% and could only get 510 points....oh and it took me about 30 hrs as well.... very enjoyable game, purchase over rent (if you want to live the full experience)

Mass effect is one of the greatest games ever made! If you like RPG games like me, or shooter games, you will love it. The story in Mass Effect is huge. The 3rd person shooter aspect is very well done also. It has alot of different difficulty levels, which keeps the game challenging. The length is also great with a long primary mission, and many fun side missions. The graphics are one of the biggest parts of the game. When people talk it actualy looks like thay are talking, unlike other games. The coolest part of the game is that when you beat Mass Effect, you can import your game and all the decisions you've made into Mass Effect 2.

This game is amazing. I think it should have won Game of the Year. The story is great. Graphics really push the Xbox 360 system. You really care for the characters at the end of the game, which any game should do- mainly RPGs. If you liked Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic I or II this is a much buy. There are a few parts in the game where I got lost or was confused about the story line but with a little help from searching on google-I found the way. I normally don't play RPGs but this game sparked my interest with all the great reviews and I picked it up and loved almost every minute of it. Highly recommended. I'm looking forward to Parts 2 and 3.

Mass Effect, simply put, is the best game ever. This is an outstanding example of what an action RPG should be. The writing is fantastic and the storyline engrossing. The musical score and sound are top notch. Game play is spot on and the presentation is flawless. Mass Effect is more than just a game it is an interactive experience. From the beginning to the end the story draws you in and doesn't let go. You actually begin to care about the characters in the game and what happens to them. This is Sci-Fi at it's best. Thank you Bioware for making such an amazing game!

Mass Effect was a great game for me. It had all the things a RPG will need. The Story is Awesome and the Gameplay was Intense. The character voices were Top-Notch and i could not get enough of it. The Visuals were Outstanding and Jaw-Dropping. THe only downside is that theres a lot of Texture Pop-ins and they really Annoyed me. The Game was to short but at least it had a story. The Equipment Placement was weird because everything was scrambled and Not in order. But all in all i would HIGHLY recommend this game to anyone. RPG fan or Not. This is a MUST BUY!!!

Mass effect is a great single player game for the 360. It has great character depth and each of your characters has their own background which makes you care and or hate them. The graphics in the game are on par with any of the top games along with the design. The biggest thing I didn't like in the game was that all of the side missions are repetitive and boring, All they do is having you dropped on a planet drive a car around for awhile and then kill a few guys. I have played a about 25 hours into the game and am level 40 and I still plan on beating the game and at least doing part of another run through, I would recommend this game for anyone who needs a good single player game.

I have spent about 6 hours on this game and don't feel like I am nearly finished. I thought I would give this game some love since there are only 13 reviews here. I do not like RPG games and hated KOTOR. This game is fantastic. The dialogue system is what make the game interesting. I like how the choices for you to say are statements and the character actually paraphrases what you want him/her to say. The story is very interesting. It feels like this game can take around 40 hours to complete if you talk to everyone and do all the side quests. BUY NOW!!!

This is by far my favorite RPG game of all time, next to the KotOR series and the Elder Scrolls series. It has a very good story the really immerses the player into the game. The graphics are absolutely incredible especially when played on an 1080p hd tv =). The story is very in depth and there are plenty side quests to keep you busy if you need a break from the main story (but why would you). I have been very pleased with every game Bioware has made and they have not failed us here. Can't wait for ME 2!

Great game. The gameplay is really fun and there are multiple storylines and routes you can take. Only really negative thing I can think of is that there is no real point in buying and selling equipment. You are always picking up new stuff and building up credits doesn't help you buy anything exciting. A few more varieties of weapons might be nice as well, seeing as how all shotguns, pistols, assault rifles, and sniperrifles are essentially the same besides power and accuracy. Biotics are always fun to use. Nothing like launching a boss up in the air and shooting them before they can recover.

    Possible game of the year

First off let me start by saying I am a fan of almost every genre of game and have been playing since the original Nintendo came out...and will be pummeling my grandchildren at games when I am in my eighties too :). So back to Mass Effect. Never have I played a game that has dropped me into a universe with so much potential and so many awe inspiring and emotion causing moments (you will make difficult and very mature choices in this game and have to deal with the outcome). From the beginning of the game the massively creative universe, most advanced character animation and interaction yet to date, and often mature and realistic issues raised in the game, dropped me headfirst into the environment with the feeling of being in an epic movie. From making choices that would make the most cool under pressure person begin to sweat to the feeling of being an actually hero/villain and not just some superman/woman, I found myself truly caring for the characters and for my missions in the game. Jumping to the end without giving anything away I found myself unable to sit and pacing around the room thinking about what I had done (thanks to the choices I made and the surprisingly well done cinematic feel and musical score) and what was next. Ok now that the feeling of the game and story is done (without spoiling anything) lets cover some of the customization. The classes are Soldier(straight combat: best with all weapons and up to heavy armor), engineer(powerful tech abilities, pistols, light armor), Adept (powerful biotic abilities which are similar to using the force in Star Wars, light armor, and pistols), and then there are three classes that blend the base three in some fashion: Vanguard (biotic abilities and some combat abilities(shotgun), Infiltrator (tech and combat blend(sniper), and Sentinel (tech and biotic abilities). You can choose between a number of armors that range from light, medium, and heavy. Your starting class will have limitations to how heavy of armor you will be able to wear as the game progresses. However, the armor selection is pretty varied for each and you are allowed to add upgrades from 1-2 at a time these upgrades do everything from improved protection, shields, healing, etc. The only thing you cannot do (yet) with the armor is change its color or modify its appearance outside of removing your helmet. Now the weapons are much the same as the armor with regards to upgrades. Except you can upgrade the weapon and the ammo. There are many versions of the 5 base weapon classes (assault rifles, sniper rifles, shotguns, pistols, and grenades) and it really depends on who you want your character to be and what you want them to do (also what base class you are playing has an effect on this). Ok now here are some of the downsides to this game. A few bugs with the loading of textures (sometimes slow texture loads); AI for teammates and enemies can be lacking at times and effective at other times. Side missions and exploration worlds are not highly varied (although they are meant to be undeveloped and wild) and do begin to have the same feel after a few hours of them, however the main quest locations are very well done and highly enjoyable. There have been some complaints about combat in general and the driving of the Maco. I for one have not had any problems with the Maco once I taught myself how to drive and fight with it. It really isn’t that bad if you have the ability to learn and adapt like most humans. As for the combat, I found it to be well done for the most part and have noticed that most of the complaints are about how it is not like Halo, Gears, or R6. This is because it is an RPG (that means dialog and heavy story) with combat/3rd person shooter elements and not the other way around. Please know what you are buying before you buy it. Those other games are shooters flat out. This is not. Overall: 4.7-5.0 stars Graphics: 5.0 Sound/music: 5.0 Story: 5.0 AI: 4.0-4.5 Game play: 4.5-5.0 Replay ability: 2+ playthroughs

    Best RPG to date.

This, in my opinion, is the best game i've ever played. As a huge RPG fan Mass Effect tickled me at how awesome and expansive the game is. You play Commander Shepard, a man/woman who has been sent out on a mission to hunt down Saren, a rogue Spectre who threatens the galaxy. During your massive trip through the galaxy you will encounter a suprising variation of enemies, as well as a MASSIVE variation of friendly characters, who each have their own unique dialogue, and side missions availible. How you interact with them can determine many things, such as the effect others will have on you, your reputation, and dialogue options. I won't ruin the story, i'll just say that its one of, if not THE, best storyline in RPGs to date. Combat is slightly repetative, and vehicle combat is downright boring. I suggest being a hybrid Biotic/Commando for the most fun. The game is also really well done for each difficulty level. If your new to 3rd person shooters, i suggest you start on the easiest. If you've played shooters before i HIGHLY suggest playing on the hardest one availible. Not only will you unlock the next level after completing the game, but the challenge/rewards are better as well. This is simply a must have for all xbox360/PC owners. Pick it up, you will not be disappointed.

This game present a wonderful cinematic game play and the ability for you to shape the story to be your own. Each play through happens just a little different, giving you the feel that you are playing a new game each time. You will begin to notice things the second, third (and subsequent) times that you missed the first time. It is incredibly deep and very addictive.

Mass Effect is a great game that is a reason to own a 360. The funny thing is many complained that the shooting was not good enough, but that is the part of the game I found the most fun. The Mako sections were frustrating, but once you get used to it it comes natural. The customization was confusing at times, and was not clear as to how your character could progress. The storyline was entertaining. At $20 this is a must buy.

I would recommend this product to anyone who enjoys an extremely well rounded story of a game. In this game you aren't just paying for gameplay but for the cut-scenes aswell. They are a huge part of the game and a person must be patient when playing the game. Once I got into the game I played it none stop for days. Game had great options to give you a different experience for each player. Would recommend to almost anyone.
