This is the first time I bought a TV Series having never watched it before. I read many positive reviews about Downton Abby and decided to give it a go. Wow!!! I can't even express enough how good this show is. I have been transported back in time starting with the sinking of the Titanic..to the Great War..to the 20's...and its been a fantastic journey!!!This show is so well done...beautiful to watch..at an age well before PCs..cell phones..and even the telephone which was introduced with the staff not knowing how to use it!!!! The acting is beyond excellent. The 4th season which is a big part of this positive review doesn't disappoint. I don't want to give any plots away but the 4th season started with sorrow and ended with hope...I can't wait for the 5th season!!!! You won't be disappointed with this DVD. The entire series is a purchase worth owning.

Fascinating stories of how characters face & struggle with (not solve) the problems that emerge from stringent, aristocratic standards which can no longer judge & condemn the world as society changes due to war, the resulting economy, and how individuals seek independence & individual expression apart from tradition & its norms. The plot lines serve as interesting lenses not only for these struggles in the last century, but Aldo as inspiring dialogue for how we ought to view & rise to the occasion for the same challenges facing us today. Not just stories shout post World War I Britain, but narrative platforms to launch our own imagination for how to contend with the same desires & drives for freedom everywhere.

This show is apparently the equivalent of visual crack. My wife and daughter love it. I don't understand why. It makes reading the newspaper seem like riding a rollercoaster. I tried sitting through one of my wife's benders on this show and I actually chuckled at one of the dry remarks and felt so dirty I had to go shower. Despite my feelings on it, it must be a good show, since my wife somehow got my daughter and mother-in-law hooked on it.

As the story progresses over the seasons, the distance between the aristocracy and the "hired help" seems to narrow. The servants reveal more and more their life stories, dreams and aspirations and the wealthy show a willingness to "get their hands dirty" in doing the work it will take to save the estate for future generations. The relationships are always interesting. The costuming continues to be stunningly beautiful, as are the sets/scenery.

I like that it has the other characters stories going on.I also like that that its not vulgar language or violence. There is manors in it. Loyalty among some of the servants with each other and there bosses and some of the bosses with some of their servants. Makes you wish that the older servants that seem to admire each other some how show a little affection with each other is shown which they did towards the end makes you fill good.

I like the Downton Abbey series. It gives us a glimpse of another lifestyle that alot of people are not familiar with. The storylines are very interesting. My boyfriend turned me onto this series and I have enjoyed watching every season. I have purchased the dvd's to all four seasons so as to go back and review something that I might have missed or to just enjoy over again.

Downton Abbey is a great period piece to watch. The characters are richly played by good British and American actors. This is the fourth season of the series continuing the story line five months after the future Earl of Grantham was killed. Great Sunday afternoon movie to watch. Can't wait for the next season to come out on disc. Enjoy!!!

Love Downton Abbey and was so grateful to be able to buy the entire season on DVD before the season was finished broadcasting on PBS! We love the behind the scenes interviews and to see how the actors/actresses look in real life as opposed to how they look and sound as their characters. Get cracking on season 5!!!

Well, I didn't know that Downton Abbey: Season 4 has a very different label comparing to the PBS Masterpiece version. That was incredible.

I've actually gotten to season 5 in this series. Now I'm going to have to wait for a while to finish. This is a wonderfully acted, written & produced series. I'm fascinated with the fashions, the attitudes, the mores of this time in history, so Downton Abbey never fails to satisfy.

My have bought all seasons for my wife so far. The forth one is fantastic! The acting just gets better an better. There is more time being spent on the servants than ever before. I typically do not like drama shows but for a guy it is more than enough to keep my attention!

For those that appreciate a well written drama about British family life, this is it. Each episode is one full hour of spellbinding plot twists intertwined with the travails of family life of the well to do. A wonderful aside from the lackluster shows of the current era.

Downton Abbey is an excellent time piece show. I was really sad to see it end. I bought the DVD's so I can watch it whenever. Never get tired of good TV. The clothing and jewelry are amazing.

As a fan of the first 3 seasons, the wife could not wait for season four. She was not disappointed as the season four picked up where season three left off. She binged watched the whole season in one weekend (which kept me on my own for a few days--can't complain!).

It is a wonderful production in which people of different social classes intermingle primarily within a household environment. It is especially interesting to see individuals trying to gain the upper hand among their peers and among those in other social classes.

It's Season 4: you love this show. The Blu ray version is definately worth the extra price (particularly when On Sale). Downton Abbey is a Blu ray showcase: the sets, the acting, etc. At Issue: Change has definately come to the series. Original cast members have left, leaving gaps. While still gorgeous to look at, writer Julian Fellowes (actor, The Monarch of the Glen) has chosen a new direction. The Geopolitical issues he is now taking on have replaced the writing of good interpersonal stories.

This is become my all time favorite British series. The acting is superb (can't go wrong with Dame Maggie Smith), the story is enthralling, costumes and cinematography are amazing. Would love to see more episodes per season, but I guess I can't have everything.
