This revised version of the Poldark series is excellent! The actors, particularly the leads, Aidan Turner as Ross Poldark and Eleanor Tomlinson as Demelza are suburb. They both embody their characters so well even small facial expressions convey so much emotion. This is basically a love story (or a love triangle) set against class struggles of the period. After seeing only a few of the 8 episodes, I couldn't wait to see the rest, so I had to get the DVD. The DVD contains the complete 60 minute episodes as shown in Britain instead of the 50 minute episodes shown on PBS in the U.S. Any woman with a heartbeat will fall in love with the character of Ross - his compassion for those in the "lower" class far outweighs his flaws, although his temper can cause problems, it is equaled by his great love. He's also easy on the eyes! I highly recommend this series and look forward to next season - it can't come soon enough!

During my vacation in Cornwall I kept running into images of this new television series, based on a series of books. It was turned into a television series before, in the seventies, but now it's been remade. I decided to give it a shot, and was not disappointed! So great to see the beautiful Cornish landscapes as the backdrop of this exciting series. Aidan Turner (he was one of the 13 Hobbits), turns in a dark and brooding performance as Russ Poldark, returning home to Cornwall after fighting in the American Revolutionary War, to find his life in shambles. It is like watching a historic romance novel, not to be put down. Series 3 is now showing, while series 1 and 2 are already available on blu-ray. Don't miss it!

This has been a marvelous 1st season of a period drama set in Cornwall and begins 3 years after the American revolutionary war, with the lead character, Ross Poldark, returning to his home unaware his father has passed 6 months earlier and his financial situation uncertain. He overcomes challenges and competing interests from his Uncle/cousin and other foes. Top rate acting.

From the superb cast to the cinematography (that part of England is SO beautiful), to the sumptuous soundtrack that you will want to get and listen to over and over again....so lush and haunting. Not enough good things to say about this spectacular PBS program.

I think this series is for people who like outlander. Best part is you dont have to pay for a premium channel to view this one. It is from your local public broadcasting channel. It is also safe from too much blatent nudity that outlander and other historical pieces have on the premium channels.

Super period piece based on Winston Grahams Poldark series - I fell in love with the characters - the breathtaking scenery - the beautiful music - all will take you away to another world - A super PBS production - definitely rivals with Downton Abbey - this is a must see - get hooked!!!!

I'm a huge Downton Abbey fan, and this series is right up there!! I was so enthralled with the characters, storylines, and scenery, that I couldn't stop watching! I bought the dvd set to add to my collection, as it is definitely worth watching more than once!!!

I was a big fan of the PBS series Poldark starring Robin Ellis, so it was tough to see a whole new bunch of actors interpreting characters I had grown to know well, but it was enjoyable to rediscover my favorite plot lines. What's perhaps better about this new adaptation is the element of realism. I do hope the series continues; one season barely scratches the surface of the books, and there are so many more delicious twists and turns to come!

My wife and I absolutely love this new show on PBS. We began watching on Sunday evenings, but were so captivated by it that I bought the whole first season on DVD. Then we could watch it at our own pace. Highly recommended!

My review is not intended to describe this series in detail. Just wanted to say I'm glad I purchased it even though I wasn't quite sure if it would play in my DVD. It did and I'm still enjoying it!!

This first season of the remake of the British production of Poldark is wonderfully acted by the new cast, and it is filmed on location, which just adds to the mystique. Can't wait for the second season!

Great adaptation of the books. Beautiful scenery (filmed in Cornwall) and Aiden Turner as the brooding and complicated lead character is brilliant. Excellent series

After searching through the internet to find the first season episodes of this series, without success, I found it at my local best buy. This is a terrific pbs masterpiece series.

I just wrote a review for Season II. If you haven't started to watch this period drama, what are you waiting for? It's excellent! I can't wait for PBS to air Season III.

This is a great series. I love it almost as much as the book series, but then there are few movies/tv series that are better then the books they are based on.

This is a MUST OWN for all Poldark fans. This is the UK version so it includes scenes that did not air in the US. It also has several bonus features to enjoy.

My wife enjoys this series and wanted this DVD set. She said it was enjoyable to watch and plans to re-watch the DVD set again!

Historic period piece. Great characters, romance, drama, intrigue. Watch one episode and you will be hooked. Scenery is also beautiful

Poldark is excellent. It offers insight into the challenges of the British soldiers returning to England after the American Revolution.
