*Review by Joel's Wife: My dishwasher went out 2 weeks ago & I did not want to go to stores during the virus quarantine. We bought without seeing in person. This is a basic dishwasher - nothing fancy. And I am fine with not-fancy. It washed the dishes - so it did it's job. The heating element is smaller and goes just around the bottom arm base - not around the perimeter of the tub like my old machine (see photo). Soap dispenser slides closed after filling. Pros: Stainless Tub. Cycle lights are bright and easy to see. Fairly easy to install. The front is nice - stainless looks good, basic but sleek control panel. Pretty quiet! Cons: Lots of water/condensation on inside of door after wash/dry cycle (I mean 3 hours after cycle finished & I went to unload) (2 photos of door with condensation, but also note the water in bottom of tub in heat element picture). The dip/slope on the left side of upper rack does not really help much - water bottles still do not fit easily. The door opening mechanism is just yanking it open - no latch for opening/closing - I've never had one like this before & honestly it makes me a little nervous. Load capacity - maybe it's just because I had a load of odd shapes and sizes for my 1st load - but I did not feel that I could fit as much in as I did with my old Whirlpool. Bottom line - I'm glad to have a working dishwasher, but not sure if I was shopping the traditional way (in store, actually opening & closing & pulling out racks, etc) I would choose this model.

Easy to install, sleek design, quiet, cleans well, all stainless, roomy, controls are easy to use and smart layout, and after 30 days has not broken down. Expecting circuit board failure in two years, hopefully not, but replacing circuit board is easier than most. I plan on keeping this one as long as possible with 10 year warranty.

    Maytag MDB4949SHZ Review

Item was delivered on 4/25/2020 at my home in California during stay at home orders. They delivered it into my house and left which is fine with me. Item was installed by myself and it wasn’t difficult at all especially since the unit had wheels on it. I owned a basic Frigidaire Dishwasher with plastic tub that was about 5 years old and was still cleaning good but racks were pvc coated and been rusting since it was a year old and while I was able to fix that issue for a while it came back and starting leaving rust marks on the edges of my plates so I decided to upgrade since my kitchen was renovated last September. Ideally I wanted a dishwasher that was stainless steel inside and out and also a third rack but I couldn’t justify the cost of a third rack machine by Maytag so I settled for the base front control Maytag model. Cleaning performance is better than my old Frigidaire dishwasher and I tested it with a pot with burnt on spaghetti sauce on the bottom of the pot and used the power blast and it was shining like new. Sanitizing temperature of the Maytag unit is also higher than my old machine. Drying performance is good now but the first few times I used the machine the tub was all wet after the cycle was done but the dishes were mostly dry. I looked at the rinse aid dispenser and saw it was set for number 3 so I adjusted the dial to number 4 and the next time I ran a load of dishes everything including the tub was dry. Rack set up is almost the same as my old unit except for the top rack. The top rack on this Maytag unit is like a stadium setup where it gets deeps they further you got to right side of the top rack. I love it I can fit taller glasses that couldn’t fit on my old one and also fit 24oz water bottles on the deep end too. I love the utensils basket and the slots to separate items and keep the from nesting. Overall this Maytag is a wonderful machine and I love it so far and while it’s just a little over a month old it’s working flawlessly. I also use afresh dishwasher cleaner once a month to keep it running good just like my old machine. My old had no lime scale and looked new inside except for the bottom rack and looked new outside too because I maintain them so well. I chose Maytag because it’s made in America and I previously had appliances by them that lasted almost 20 years.

I admit I'm partial to buying American brands when I can. I looked at Miele and Bosch but really preferred a dishwasher with heat dry. Also this Maytag has a very convenient Quick wash selection that takes only an hour instead of over two. It's also very quiet even though that isn't one of the selling points listed. Very happy with the purchase.

    Poor Design Results in Leaks

Purchased the dishwasher based on great reviews. Upon first use, water was spotted under the dishwasher and one the electric hardwire box. Unsure where the water was coming from, we ran another cycle to locate the water was a result of the float switch stem feeding water from the body of the dishwasher, down the float switch stem, and then pulling/dripping to the floor or electric hardwire box. See pictures showing the water leaking down the float switch stem. Thought this was just a fluke based on other stellar reviews so exchanged for another. The same issue (actually worse leak than the first) is occurring with this exchanged item. Never had issues with other brands of dishwashers, so never buying a Maytag again. If you do buy, pay close attention to the float switch stem since I'm now 2 for 2 with the same leaking issue. Gave it two stars because besides the leak, it cleans and dries well.

Absolutely love this dishwasher. Very well made and quite. It looked a bit smaller inside than the one we had previously but once I got it loaded (which was a bit different that the way I loaded my old dishwasher) I realized that there's even more room!! It is easy to use and love the controls in front rather than on top. Very well made. I am so extremely happy with this purchase!! Great price and great size for a family!

Dishwasher is very quiet. Much quieter than my last Maytag, which was almost silent. Touch sensitive controls are very cool; only need to brush your fingers against them to register. Capacity is very large! I took one star off for the obnoxious stickers, which ruin the sleek appearance. Stickers are not on product photos on website. See my photo

Ordered it because our dishwasher randomly stopped working and then right before it was delivered it started working again so we kept this in its box and held onto it in case ours broke down again. Ours started leaking again so we opened this one up to find the front had a hole/dent in it and after installing it we found the buttons didn’t work correctly. Had a service guy come out and read the error code and said it needs a new console so now we have to wait for that part to come in and replace it on a brand new never used dishwasher. Defective and a waste of time. Not something we should have to deal with on a brand new item.

This is the 10th dishwasher I have purchased in the past 20 years. Over the past two decades, due to relocating or dishwasher failures, does explain why I have owned so many. I have learned a lot about dishwasher problems and how they can be disappointing and problematic the expensive way, so with this purchase, I chose as carfully as I could. The best features include the stainless steel tub, the design of how the pump screen and heater element are tucked in at the floor of the tub, and the pump and food grinder assembly. The door gaskets are well designed and I do not anticipate any leaks or excessive steam escape. The dishwasher is quieter than I anticipated. The cleaning cycles are efficient and the drying cycle actually dries (unlike other brands owned in the past). I love this Maytag and I don’t expect to have to repair or replace this one!

So--I really like this dishwasher. It certainly cleans quicker than the one we had and WOW: this thing is (almost disturbingly) quiet. Yes, there is water on the door. I don't think it's a problem. I saw reviews where people complained about how the lights on the panel make it hard to read the panel. I thought they were just a bunch of whiners (Air crew: trigger warning!!)--actually, the lights on the panel can make your eyes feel like they are about to get lased. They did go over-board and yup, it can be irritating. Even knowing this, I think this dishwasher is great for the price point and I'm glad I bought it. Final note: BestBuy did a great job installing. Next appliance purchase, I’m starting with Best Buy over Home Depot or Lowes. It really was just easier.

I had a kenmore elite that didn’t last that long. Maybe 6 years old. Well I bought this Matag, ended up being the same as Kenmore Elite. Minus all the extra features. But what sold me is the 10 year warranty on racks and pump, which is went bad in the kenmore elite . It’s quite , simple features . Cleans well. I paid $499 which I thought was good for the stainless steel tub and warranty.

I bought this to replace my old dishwasher that did not work very well, was super excited to get to use it, I have put pots and pans in it without rinsing because I wanted to see just how well it would get them clean, above and beyond what I imagined it would do, got my glasses so clean that the ones in the cupboard looked hazy next to the one out of the dishwasher and is very quiet, love love love

We like the look of the dishwasher. It is quiet and does a good job cleaning. The downside for us is that the racks are not laid out in the best way. The bottom rack is all one kind of tine and the upper rack with tines bent for bowls is situated front to back so the bowls fall over when you push the rack in and close the door. I would recommend seeing the machine in person rather than purchasing online as we did.

This dishwasher to great it fits a lot of dishes cleans very well, in drying, you must use some kind of drying agent otherwise there’s going to be a lot of moisture on the dishes and in the dishwasher. One more thing the buttons are very sensitive just leaning next to where the buttons are, the washer will easily turn on. So I turn the switch off, on the wall.

I'd been using a twenty year old Maytag (I guess you could say I was a bit behind the times) so I was truly amazed at how quiet this thing was. The wash cycles have sure changed too (far more numerous and far less attention grabbing). I've only done one load but everything came out squeaky clean. My only concerns are twofold; How many years of service I'll get and how long will it be before the control labels (which are kinda faint to begin with) start to rub off, if ever. Otherwise here's my thumbs up.

After a year of ownership I decided to leave a review. This thing is awesome, cleans spotless and is super quiet, you can barely hear it working. Overall very happy with the purchase. The only downside is accidental turning on caused by touching the sensory buttons, but this is avoided if you child-lock the controls, which we do anyway.
