Excellent acting and music score, though it's a bit creepy in some regards. How many of us think of "Death" as a conscious non-human entity? And who would actually want to have sex with Death (Joe Black) even if the alien/extraterrestrial/supernatural creature happened to take a body as handsome as Brad Pitt's? Yes, this film involves the possession of a human being by Death, or as Death puts it, "I needed a body." The top of the pyramid, penthouse-dwelling main character (Bill Parrish) is an obvious stand-in for the 1% of the 1%. And the last name Parrish is unlikely to be irrelevant. He is held up as a paragon of virtue and personal achievement. Even when he loses his temper it is for an honorable reason. We are told the President may attend his birthday party, and the city is making exceptions for him to have his own fireworks display. And yet at least in this case, the man seems to have achieved his wealth and status in a way that is beyond reproach--though we never get any details to confirm this, and must surmise it by his actions. "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" seems an odd choice for the ending music, though it was beautifully rendered.

This is one for the collection, gotta have it on blue ray.

I saw this movie back in 1999 after it was out awhile. It was good then, BUT after watching it again ( as an older person now, and also after watching the movie ' The devil takes a holiday ' ( I think that was title, I don't own that 1 ) I REALLY REALLY loved Anthony Hopkins part so much more. I have always thought of him as a perfect for any part type guy, but here he is subtle MOST of the time but every time it is on screen he really steals all the attention and my heart. The movie does center around brad Pitt who is also a great actor and really brings this character to life and makes you believe he is experiencing things for the first time, but you really feel for him and brad Pitt is the one making you feel that way. My favorite line by Anthony Hopkins: 65 years don't they go by in a blink. I cried ESPECIALLY from that part to the end. Even if you've seen this movie, it is a MUST OWN.

Well i am a science fiction nerd so I wasn't to sure about this film at first. The characters are above life for sure. I suppose that's part of the allure of the film. There are bits in the film that are quite engaging and the movie moves along at a decent pace. I suppose it depends on what things pull at your heart strings. I was engaged and wanted to see what would happen. Then again I do like the actress in the film so that probably helped my case. this sort of thing may not be for everyone, but it does provide an escape if you let it.

A loose adaptation of its original, Death Takes A Holiday, Meet Joe Black is a wondrous full-color retelling of its memorable black and white predecessor. Ably cast with the brilliant Anthony Hopkins, and in a surprisingly delightful performance by Brad Pitt, as a very handsome portrayal of death, we are treated to a retelling of this romantic fairy tale, and as with all fairy tales, we can imagine in ways uncommon, especially when one thinks about accepting "death" as reality. Meet Joe Black may not necessarily be a film for everyone, but during these times of stay-home-seclusion, it is a classic bit of romance and fantasy entertainment via the silver screen.

it has been a long time ago when i first saw this movie on vhs and we just watched it yesterday what a great movie. so glad i bought this on disc.

Very interesting plot. All the characters were excellent especially Anthony Hopkins. Although it’s only in hi DEF, the picture is really great.
