This a great series playing off an older one, but you don’t really need one before the other. Then there’s the easy comparison’s to the manga Levius (Netflix is turning into a series), which too follows a young fighter wanting to compete in Mechanical Martial Arts. Megalo Box starts with a young fighter throwing fights alongside his sleazy trainer in order to keep up - until one day the main character, JunkDog, comes up against the greatest fighter in league championship megalo boxing. Megalo boxers are fighters rigged with mech enhancements, that is until JunkDog (under the new name of Gearless Joe) enters the tournament, choosing to fight all-natural, no enhancements. With the aim towards Joe rising to top, he chooses to challenge high rank fighters to reach the man who beat him as JunkDog, the champion Yuri. The series does a fantastic job pacing its way through to the end. And while the series ends on a note that could be a finale, it’s also alive enough for more seasons. The artwork is beautiful with little signs of technological interference in the classic 2D hand drawn aesthetic. The entire series feels very much like Cowboy BeBop.

This show is action packed all the way until the final bout, a truly great aniversary piece for the old series Ashita no Joe. The packaging for the limited edition is beautiful with fully drawn pictures of Joe and Yuri on the front and back respectively. It's not flimsy and solidly made. The extras include a small booklet of information pertaining to series, which is also solidly made. If your fan of this show or your looking for a beautifully animated boxing anime then look no further.

This is an absolutely fantastic Series. While it is your typical underdog story. The underdog aspect is actually really well implemented and woven into the story and is well justified when taken into context. The art style is phenomenal, going for a more dirty, unfinished, sketch-like style that really sets it apart from most other anime. The main character, Joe, is so well written and believable that you can't help but root for him. A definite must watch!

Boxing with metal arms, that's dope! The series is about a no name boxer by the name of Junkdog who aims to enter the championship megalo boxing tournament. Switching to the name Joe, our boy enters to make a name for himself. Also the show has a filter that make it look like an old 90s anime and I love that!

This is a great underdog story about a guy named Joe. Who against the odds & with not enhance fighting gear challenges world class boxers in this futuristic world. Great action, voice acting, pacing & a little of an old school animation style that works well. Best of all though this is a complete story from beginning to end. In other words no season 2 because season 1 tells it's story.

This is an underated anime show it reminds me a little bit of Cowboy Bebop if your looking for a GD anime show then I would definitely recommend you picking this up. The animation is amazing and the story hooks you in the first episode.

I personally loved this show and was surprised with the dub quality when it aired on toonami. The pacing of the show council of been fleshed out a little more but otherwise I definitely recommended this anime.

This feels like cowboy beebop but with boxing. The soundtrack is also top notch.

It’s goods for anyone who like the 90’s style anime

I watched the whole series on a streaming service and loved it. Classic story and anime style, right up there with Cowboy Bebop. It doesn’t have quite the deep storyline and characters as CB, but it’s still a beautiful work of art. I had to own it on Blu-ray, and the limited edition is pretty good. I wish they had come out with a steelbook edition though. Who thought a boxing anime would be this cool? If you love anime then you must add this to your collection.

Great boxing anime with some steampunk vibes recommended

One of the best anime of the decade in my opinion. The animation is great and the music is fantastic. I would describe the story a mixture of Rocky and any spaghettis western. It is not so much the fame and fortune but the all-or-nothing brawl for the world to see.

I am really enjoying this anime! The limited edition box is beautiful with that orange and the artbook is amazing! Not a bad price! Got it on sale during the holidays.

There is not many boxing anime’s but this one differentiates itself from the few being set in the distant future with mechanized suits. The animation is so good looking like it came out during the 90’s. Also this collection comes with a nice booklet on the show.

This edition is amazing and the art works great. It comes with bonus goodies in the books.

This anime was great, I liked the positive scenarios just because your the underdog, you can rise above.

A lot of effort went into this show, and on this Blu-ray, it shows!
