I know things change. But why can't a CD player not require ear buds. There is no speaker included in the cd player.

Let’s be honest, unless you are VERY young, chances are you still have some sort of music CD collection sitting around the house unused because you may no longer have a way to play them. Many if not most people have moved on to streaming music, but there’s still something to be said about listening to music on CDs. General better quality with good ear buds or a headset being the main reason. The Memorex Personal CD Player is about as basic as it gets. It’s a small, round, plastic CD player made of plastic, with plastic buttons and no fluff features like Bluetooth or wifi. You literally pop it open, put in a CD, plug in some headphones, and press “play” and listen to your music. It comes with some basic ear buds that work fine, but better quality buds or phones will of course yield higher quality sound; or plug in a speaker and share your music with the room. Basic controls for play/pause, volume, skip, program, repeat, and program are included, as well as a very basic equalizer for Pop, Rock, and Surround sound options. A 60 second skip protection is an added feature. The buttons are silver and plastic, and are my only real complaint – they look “cheap” and could have been done better (but they work!). The Player runs on two AA batteries. Generics are included and will last for maybe 2-3 CDs with some repeats, but using better branded batteries will get you more life. Better yet, some good rechargeable AAs are not expensive these days, so get a couple of sets of those and keep the landfills a little less full. Unfortunately, no case or cover is included… “boooo”. Either way, just be careful. I’ve had no problems with mine at all. Sometimes, old tech is still good tech. At around $25.00 or less, this is a good buy to listen to your old CDs. For a few dollars more, there’s a Memorex model with available Bluetooth added if you need it. So go ahead… break out that old Kenny G or ABBA cd and go for it!

This is the worst portable CD player I have ever used; it often takes MINUTES to load CDs; it doesn’t play certain types of discs; it stops functioning after about a week; it often skips, which causes a lot more stress while listening than one might think, from the expectation and uncertainty of it next skipping. The manufacturers clearly do not care at all about their customers, as the earphones are so stentorian that they are bound to cause damage to the ear drums of whoever uses them. Even turning down the volume to the lowest it can go, I could physically feel my eardrum vibrating from the sound. I should sue both for long-term eardrum damage, and for the high blood pressure resulting from having to constantly fret over whether the audio I listen to will skip at whatever time. Needless to say, I would only recommend this crappy portable CD player to my enemies, and will never purchase it again.

I am a musician so my ear is a little more critical. So, here is why I chose to get this due to I do have quite the CD collection. Pros: Good over all volume. EQ selection. Programable. ESP works as expected. I found the best setting for sound is using Pop or Default (No EQ). Both will give the best balanced sound. Option to add a power adaptor if desired. Display is decent readable size. Ability to fast forward through a song to reach a desired part in the song. Finish is a nice flat black non slip. Controls are easy to function. Batteries easy to load Cons: I Don't like ear buds, prefer regular over the ear head phones which sound great with this player. (Just my preference) Surround sound EQ is terrible. Rock sound EQ is ALL Bass No Bluetooth! Would have been nice for a wireless headphone connection option. (would be willing to pay more) Not sure if this was intentional, but noticed the inside top of unit exposes the circuit board like its unfinished. You Must use the anti-skip all the time. even a slight movement without will cause skips. Still a good choice if your looking for a budget player! 4 stars for over all features and design, Could use some updating to meet todays expectations such as adding bluetooth to make it more appealing.
