Perfect companion for my Note 2

As one of the early adapters of smartwatch technology and the user of MetaWatch STRATA for over 6 months, I can't imagine my life without it. Unfortunately a lot of the people don't understand the purpose of smartwatch. Its not meant to be a replacement of your smartphone, but rather an extension of it, a remote notifier. I use Galaxy Note 2 and quite frankly it becomes inconvenient to constantly pull out my phone to check if I got an email or txt, or to see who is calling me. Or even a basic task of looking up how much battery I have left on the phone or about the upcoming weather. Actually, it doesn't matter if your phone is big or small. Every time you take it out of the pocket, there is more chances to drop it, especially if its a winter time and you need to go through layers of cloth. With my MetaWatch its very simple. Anytime I get an email, or txt, or someone is calling me, or upcoming calendar event - I get it all pushed to my watch and then I decide if I want to dismiss it or follow up by taking out my phone. Works great when you are driving, or in a meeting or movie theater or any other environment where you have to mute your phone, for example. Since I start wearing my STRATA, I no longer miss any of my phone calls. Not to mention that I no longer forget my Note 2 in the car since you get a vibration notification if you are getting away from the phone. Plus, you are in control of what you would like to be displayed on the face of the watch. Time, calendar, phone battery, weather, stock, etc. The display is very unique, always on, and highly visible even in a direct sunlight. The construction is very rugged. Some people forget that you supposed to wear your watch outside in different weather conditions, so waterproof rating is very important. I have no worries with STRATA. Plus, with a unique music remote you can control playback of your audio player on the phone. It was absolutely fun during this summer when I had my Note 2 and bluetooth speaker paired up out on the porch, and me completely submerged in our above the ground swimming pool with my metawatch on being able to play/pause and change between the tracks on the phonbe. Now, that is ultimate use of a smartphone :) And btw, for those who are deciding between MetaWatch and Pebble, just look at toyish built of the Pebble and think about it :)

I got this as a present and could not wait to get on using it. Downloaded the app, connected via bluetooth, and was good to go. The problem started when I realized how much battery was draining from my Iphone 5s. WIth only 6 hours on standby, I was at 50% battery. I can go 17 hours on standby and some light usage, and still have 80% battery left at bedtime. Contacted Metawatch support and they are very responsive. Very responsive. They had me go through some troubleshooting things like resetting all connections, reset the phone and leave the data, and next was to do a wipe of the phone and rebuild it manually. I didn't have the time or energy in doing this plus my return window for Best Buy was closing. The benefit of this watch is that you can see the caller ID of people calling or what the text message says while driving, in meetings, etc. You cannot really do more than that - well, you can view the weather, sports, stocks, etc. but doing that is something I'd use my phone for anyway. But while driving to glance and see it isn't something worth answering or pulling over for is worth alot. You can also control music, which I guess if I was using music I'd be looking at my phone. So, if you want a way to do these things, go for it. If it doesn't work so well, you can take it back. If it works, like it has for others, then you are ahead of the game. There aren't many smartwatches for Iphones so this not working out was a very sad day indeed. The only negatives I had with this, really, was that the display can be hard to read in certain indoor lighting situations. I will say however, the look of the display is really cool and the numbers/letters look like a mirror in outside lighting. The backlight is pretty good and does help in low light situations. And the battery life of the watch wasn't going to be as long as I think it should be. By the end of a 36 hour stretch it was down to 50%. Maybe I had a defective unit or something, but I had spent way too much time trying to get this to work. The Metawatch app for Iphone has to run in the foreground all of the time. I'm one who kills off apps if I'm not using them, so this was a little frustrating. But more than that, the Iphone said I used my phone as much as it was on standby, even though that wasn't true. I might have used my phone for 30 minutes and it was on standby for 12 hours, but the phone thought I had been "using" it actively for 12 hours. So that is probably why my battery was going so quickly.

I have used both this appliance and the pebble and although the build quality of the "frame" I think will be more durable, its feeble attempt of trying to save energy by throttling itself down during inacdtivity period makes it a poor device. Let me explain: When a txt message or a phone call arrives, if your device is on silent it is usually located in a discreet spot on your body or nearby. The idea of the device is to notify you of the event that is occurring. In the event of the Metawatch Frame, when a txt message arrives, there is a delay of 3-5 seconds between when my iphone 5s receives the message and is already vibrating in my pocket or on the table and when the watch receives the notification and vibrates on my wrist. In my situation, I auto grab the phone and try to read it before using my watch appliance to read the message. When paired with the Pebble competitor unit, the message arrives either at the same time or my butt feeling that it arrives slightly before the phone displays it.I feel that this is where smartwatch appliance response time ought to be, not after the device has gone crazy with its bells and whistle but before it has a chance to do so. Other than this gripe, I think the metawatch has merits in other aspects of its functionality and I hope the company continues to develop its interface to compete with other companies since I think right now they are half a step behind in where the core of the technology should be .

Works great with my LG L90. Doesn't really work with my L9 or F6. I think the simple way to look at compatibility is does it have BT4. According to the specs I can find the L9 and F6 should work but works fine with L90 which is BT4. This is a one way device. Shows number calling or if in contacts the contact name when a call comes in. Text shows a few sentences and well as most of contact name. Is really an expansion of display of widgets supported on cell phone. Will not input anything to your phone, only a modified display for the metawatch widgets (only a few) showing data updated via your phone. Widgets cover CLOCK,sports scores, stocks, weather, email, calendar and countdown timer. I don't care about sports or stocks. Would like a stopwatch and navigation widget, showing next turn and distance to it. Countdown timer is nice but can only set by a push for each unit to be changed. So you might have to push that button 30 times if you want to time 30 minutes, seconds, whatever. Fortunately you can remove time as well as add. So if you are counting down an event that is 35 minutes you can start at 0 and subtract 25 pushes rather than adding with 35 "plus" pushes. Battery life is OK. The metawatch website says should last several days. I find if using BT I can get about 48 hours. If I turn BT off for half a day I can get 3 days. Of course your mileage may vary... Cuts' my phones battery life by about 25% compared to not using BT at all, but my phone would still have 50% left after 24 hours of reasonable use now is showing 20-30% at the end of the day. Watch band is my least favorite part. It's a little too stiff for my liking, but imagine that's for longevity purposes. Display is amazing and annoying at the same time. Very readable if you angle the watchface right, Amazing in how well it shows in the brightest sunlight and dimmest street light after dark if you get that angle right.

    BEST SMART WATCH FOR IPHONE!

I bought this watch after returning the terribly designed, terribly expensive Martian Watch. I absolutely LOVE this watch AND it was on sale for $130! I have an iPhone 5s and this watch compliments it nicely. It actually LEARNS more alerts. It's comes with standard alerts like calls, texts, Facebook, calendar etc but the more alerts your phone gets the more will appear on the watch's menu. Now I can receive CNN or Wordfeud alerts on my smart watch. People have complained about a 3-5 second alert delay, it's more like 2-3 seconds and frankly, who cares. If it were a 30 second delay, then maybe. It also comes with a leather band and not a plastic one like the Martian watch (although not a Wilson's Leather quality leather I admit lol). I have a job where I'm not able to use my phone a lot and this drastically helps me. I do have ONE major complain which keeps this from a perfect score...the reflective screen can be difficult to read. I don't know who thought this was a good idea but it's anything but. A touch screen would have been great but at least a darker screen or one without reflective capability would help. You have to reposition your wrist way too often to read things properly. It does have a light however. Overall, I would definitely buy this watch again, and again...until the iWatch is unveiled of course.

Simple connection to my iPhone. Easily customizable to have what I want displayed without delay, and ALL of my iPhone notifications are displayed if I want them to be. Even silly notifications like it's my turn to play a game! (I turned that off, but still pretty cool). I find myself glued to my phone at work and at home. I have my phone with me constantly and pull it out of my pocket/jacket/bag constantly when I hear it... I've only had the watch a little more than a week, but it's already a relief. Just glance at the watch when I hear the phone ping, and decide if I want to respond, etc. impressed many people at out family Christmas gatherings because "the workaholic" was able to leave his phone on the ledge as we walked into my parents. They probably didn't know I was able to keep a little eye on what was happening in my world on the other side of the house from my watch :-) I do wish I could configure which notifications cause the watch to vibrate. Maybe I can figure out how to change those, but haven't as of yet. Recommend it for professional use and play alike. Nice to have in meetings. We also got my 12 year old nephew one for Christmas, and he loves it!! Was playing his music from his phone/jambox set up he got for Christmas controlling everything from his watch. Pretty cool.

After having the Fitbit Force and returning it, I was looking for replacement and stumbled on this Smartwatch now sold at BestBuy. Read the reviews and was intrigued. So with BB's return policy decided to try it out. VERY PLEASED. Easy set up and connectivity to iPhone 5S with great features on the Metawatch that were recently added in January and Feb 2014. Has a Steps Widget to track steps using iPhone 5S function. This was a surprise feature I did not realize was available with the watch. Has four screens you can scoll through to show different info from iphone. You can even customize the screens to get calendar appointments (another surprise to me). The Call, Text and Email Notification works fast and silently. Shows you the last five of these items [mixed depending on which came through last]. Having to keep free Metawatch app running on iphone for text and email notification might be a battery drain issue but not needed for call notification. Screen can be read in most light situations but sometimes can be washed out if there is a white ceiling above. Actually works best with a little reflective light. Overall very happy with the purchase.

I think I have it figured out. Pebble is for kids who are never exposed to sunlight and want silly graphics on their watch face. Metawatch is for working class people who want easy access to practical information. You can easily customize the watch face readout. I have my Meta watch face divided into three sections. The top half reads time and date. Bottom left reads current and hi/lo temperatures. Bottom right reads calendar events. Just a couple gripes that prevent a 5 star rating: 1) I want the ability to format the time and date data to my preference. For example instead of "2/27 THU" I would prefer it read THU 27-FEB-14. 2) The watch face has to be at just the right angle otherwise the data is unreadable. It looks like some kind of reflective mirror material. It is readable in direct sunlight, unlike the Pebble. 3) A replaceable watch band. Looks like if the plastic watch band breaks you have to replace the entire watch.

I had a Pebble and returned for this watch. The Pebble is a great watch, but if you want a watch you feel comfortable wearing anywhere and is dependable this is perfect. I orginally thought the watch would be too big for my small wrist, but the band fits well and is very comfortable. I prefer the one piece band because you never have to worry about the band coming loose. I paid $14.99 for the Bestbuy protection coverage and the next two years are worry free. This watch is a deal at $79. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the Pebble, but performs all the required smart watch functions well. You can tell from the quality of the build that much effort was put into the design and workmanship. I wear my watch from the time I get up to the time I go to bed. The bluetooth range is great and it's wonderful to not have to be glued to your phone all the time. I can have my phone anywhere in my house and receive all important notifications from my phone.

I've used my MetaWatch for about 10 months with my iPhone 4S, and overall I'm quite pleased. The company has been very responsive if I have a question (did twice). Pairing the phone to my iPhone is easy..though I have to bring the app up on my phone about half the time I put my watch on for the day. I love being able to get notifications on my wrist - with a silent, subtle vibration. That works really well! Personally, I receive too many emails and Facebook notifications to use that - but it's nice having the option. Probably the most useful feature for me is being able to see my next scheduled event on my watch - and it vibrates when something is set to start. I teach college; and this let's me know when it's time to start and end class without my having to keep looking at the clock...awesome! I look forward to continued updates via software!

I bought this watch without doing much research... with that being said, I really like it! I think there is a lot of potential for future widgets... like news feeds. The software is open source, so I thought about diving in to create my own widgets... but I need a MAC... The watch looks great and is easy to use. It doesn't make sounds... like beeps or alarms, but it vibrates on your wrist letting you know you have a notification. If it pops up on your phone, it will pop up on your watch. ( I just got a notification from FaceBook on my watch while typing this!) I have turned off the ringer and vibration on my iPhone and I am using the notification function on the watch only. It will be great when sitting in the movie theater. With the firmware upgreade, you can scroll through the emails or texts... or whatever notification you received. Enjoy!

Simply said....I love my watch! I have received loads of compliments and inquires as to wear I got this watch. I also provided a coworker with a link and they purchased the watch, but is afraid to wear it because they don't want a scratch on it. Lol. Funny thing is that I wear this as a daily watch and have no concerns about its durability. Only drawback is the limited apps and inability to add additional apps, poor instructions included with the watch, and the periodic loading of data on the watch. Lastly, the battery life can be misleading, this is the cellphone battery data and not the smart watch which takes a little time to learn how to determine low battery life for the watch. In addition, as other reviews have stated it will shorten the battery life on your device because of the Bluetooth connections. I would recommend also viewing the YouTube video on this product prior to and immediately after your purchase. Even with all this said, I'm thinking of gifting myself the higher end model as a Christmas gift, I'm sure I'll love it! Lol

As a disclaimer: I got this product for around $40, so significantly below previous asking prices. This certainly altered my expectations and value proposition. Usage: I use this device mostly in conjunction with work. I have to drive a lot, receive a lot of texts and e-mails, and generally need to know what time it is. This device is great for relaying that information to me when looking at my phone would be inappropriate (client meeting, hearing, etc.). It's also nice to make sure that I don't miss anything when my phone is out of reach or on silent. Performance: I had no issues setting it up. Battery life has been adequate. When I'm not using it, I turn off the Bluetooth and that will increase longevity significantly. The screen can be slightly hard to see on default, but the software allows you to inverse the color scheme, and that helped me. I use an iPhone 5. Negatives: Others have said this, but I feel like it could do more. Hopefully, new updates will take us there. Also, the music control didn't work for me, but I haven't tried it since the latest Sept/Oct update. I hope this helps!

I've used other smart watches and MetaWatch is the best one. The battery life is long, it's water proof, I get easy to glance at information like weather and stock. What I also appreciate is the design, it's a solid feeling watch and looks great. People come up to me and compliment me on how great the watch looks all the time. I did not get that reaction with my other smart watches. A lot of my friends are going to get a MetaWatch too after seeing how mine looks. I can easily glance down and check the time and see what my next calendar appointment is. I feel like I'm more organized and I always know what's happening. When my phone dings, I immediately know how important it is with a simple glance and without taking my phone out of my pocket. I LOVE IT!

I saw the deal for this smartwatch on a bargain site and thought I would give it a try. I was plannig to use it for notifications, caller ID, text messages, and music control. Three of the four features worked quite well. The short coming was with the music control. I could not get my music to begin or stop playing via the watch. I updated the software on the watch and still no success. I finally decided to reach out to metawatch customer support. They responded in a timely manner stating that current software with iOS7 disabled the play/pause button feature on the watch and that they were working on a fix. This undisclosed issue and the unsatisfactory display has brought me to the decision to return the watch.

I use it with my iPhone. It's a really neat conversation piece but not very practical. First of all, it doesn't notify you of every email. The texts are good unless they are being rapid fired. There is a long delay between the phone ringing and the watch telling you who is on the line. There is also compatibility issues with the bluetooth in my cars (all of them) and the watch. Neither device knows what to do! Also, when I walk away from the phone until it's out of range, it does not automatically connect when I get back in range causing you to go through the connect process every time. Super annoying. This is a good first effort but I would wait until Apple comes out with one.

This is a great Smart Watch. It will vibrate, when you are receiveing phone calls, text message, emails and some Apps. It about 10 build in widgets. It all proffessional and none to keep smart phone in a pocket, and still being inform. Black and white display is sharp and clear in most lighting conditions, including sunny days. It is a lot more simplified than Samsung Gear, but is also compatible with most Adroid and Apple phones. It also costs almost 3times less!! So far, I had not experience any problems like crashes or compability issus. My Smart Stata watch is paired with Samsung Galaxy S5. For the price is just perfect. Who ccan afford to pay $200 to $300 buks for a phone companion. Either wait another year for the prices to fall down or buy this Watch.

I ordered watch as a "Deal of the Day" sale and the price was great. Went to store to pick up but wanted to check display first to see item up close. There was no display so I picked up and opened package. I found the watch to be to big and bulky which was unappealing to me. A store employee allowed me to compare against Meta-watch "Frame" which had a smaller profile though still a little larger. I opted to return the Strata and purchased the more expensive FRAME Metawatch. Assuming they function similarly the watch has served me well. I especially like being able to control the i-phone music while walking without having to remove phone numerous times to change song/volume.

As much as I'd like to give this 5 stars, there is still a lot of room for improvement here. I've paired it with an iPhone 4S, and it is pretty good for simple functions such as letting me know of an incoming call, text message, calender event, or even Facebook notifications. However, it will only remember the last function. There is no way to scroll through past info. For that, you need to take your phone out of your pocket. A full charge for the watch lasts several days, but bluetooth being activated on your phone is a bit of a drain on it. Though not totally ugly, it kind of reminds me of one of those old calculator watches, given what it does, I can overlook this...... maybe 4 stars.

This smart watch is very good. It will notify you about phone calls and who is calling. It will display your text messages as well Google emails. It will do that by vibrations. There is aslo calendar appointments app as well Weather. It aslo has few other small apps and widgets. Battery lasts about 4 to 5 days. For smart watch that is amanzing! You can aslo opt for software call Metawatch Community Edition, which allows you to do a lot more with the watch. For it's price, it's a still! I would highly recommend for anyone, who just needs basic notications, and can do without voice commands or a useless camera. I'm giving MetaWatch Strata 5 stars. Thank you for reading my review.
