Portable mouse w/ great potential that disappoints

First off, let me start by saying that I *REALLY* wanted to love this mouse. I also do not favor companies- I try them all and stick with what *I* like, not with what's trendy. With that out of the way, I got to say I was sadly disappointed with this mouse. The design is really great for portability but unfortunately, gets really uncomfortable when used for an extended period of time or constant use. For $70 to $80 that you're paying, you're not getting much functionality outside of bluetooth and its on/off-unfold/fold design. There's no back/forward button on the mouse and Microsoft's mouse driver software "Mouse and Keyboard Center" does not support its bluetooth mice. Instead there's an app in the store with *VERY* limited setting options and no option to configure back/forward. Go to the Microsoft App store and check out their description and images yourself. This mouse also features Microsoft's Bluetrack technology, which really isn't that impressive. It just tracks opaque surfaces better, so if you have a desk with elaborate colors or something that messes with your mouse cursor, this will help. But it's nothing in comparison to Logitech's darkfield technology, which works on everything I've tried it on, even glass and mirroring surfaces. Bluetrack will NOT work on glass. During the initial setup, the mouse wouldn't even respond even after the bluetooth settings say it's connected. As a matter of fact, it crashed the Bluetooth Settings window. I had to restart the computer to get it to function. Please note that this only happened once (when I first set it up) and could just be an isolated incident. Also, when I installed the Settings app from the MS App Store, the app crashed and couldn't recognize my mouse despite it being connected.. Overall, I can't recommend this mouse to anybody for $70. I'm returning the mouse to the Best Buy store at Union Square after I get off work today. It's a shame. I paid a lot of money hoping for quality. All I got was something that felt like it was $15-$20.

The mouse connected with no problem. After that, it did not work well for me. Overall analysis: I think that this mouse might work well for someone with smaller hands and someone who does not have a separate USB 3.0 HUB attached to their computer. When my HUB was off, this mouse worked very well. No skips or jumps. It even worked across the room! Specific details and issues: My equipment is a 2012 Mac Mini with 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7, a SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD), and I am running Mavericks OS. The arc and width of the mouse did not work for me. I pick up and move the mouse to re-position quite a bit and had a very difficult time doing that with this design. I also turn it on and off every time I leave the computer for an extended period of time / at the end of each day. This "spooked me out" a bit as you have to flatten the mouse to turn it off and re-arc the mouse to turn it on. I was afraid that the mechanics of the mouse might not handle that too well and it might not even last a month. This was just my personal concern, not a proven fact! The overall main drawback for me was that I purchased this mouse in an attempt to resolve a skipping issue that I was having with my Logitech M510. I had hoped that a Bluetooth mouse would resolve the interference issue and the skips, jumps, and disappearing mouse pointer problems would be resolved. They were not. This mouse still skipped, jumped and the pointer would be lost off screen. The same as before with the 2.4 GHz Logitech. I have isolated the problem to the USB 3.0 HUB that is attached to my computer. The interference that this causes is almost unbeatable and is unbearable. Huge skips and jumps.. what happened to my mouse pointer, etc. My final resolution for that problem came by reattaching my USB 2.0, 4 port HUB to a USB 3.0 port on the back of my Mac Mini. The Logitech receiver is 6 to 12 inches away from my mouse at all times and is in front of the computer itself. It sits right at the front most point of the base of my monitor on the right hand side as I am right handed. So now I'm back to my favorite mouse and no more skips and jumps. In my attempt to resolve the skipping and jumping issue, I ran several mice through several tests. As noted above, this mouse worked well without the USB 3.0 hub attached. Without the Hub attached it performed better than most others I tried. Depending on circumstances of equipment being used, the size of a persons hands, and intended use, I would recommend this mouse to a friend. Cheers!

    Great Mouse

This is a Great Mouse. I especially like the fact that you flatten it out to turn it off which then takes up much less space in your laptop case or hand bag, purse, or even a shirt pocket. Definitely a positive for getting this mouse. However, you must make sure that you get the one you can use. I know that there are at least 3 different Arch Touch models sold and they all basically look the same, but may be different colors. The first one I purchased for my Surface Pro 2 was not the Surface Model, but one that was slightly cheaper (black in color I think). It came with a USB dongle plugin. It worked Great but the dongle had to be inserted into a USB port and my Surface Pro 2 only has 1 USB port, thus I couldn't use my USB drive at the same time I was using the mouse. I returned it and got the Surface Arc Touch Bluetooth (black in color) model. It works Great, doesn't use a USB port, and takes up much less room in the case I use for carrying around my tablet. I decided to get a Arc Touch mouse for my Desk Top PC. I purchased the Bluetooth, non-Surface, model (gray in color). I had read the package which stated that you needed Windows 8 or later. When I asked the sales rep, he said it should work on Windows 7 if I had a Bluetooth PC. At the time, my PC was running Windows 7 and had Bluetooth and I got a statement that indicated the mouse did pair up with the OS. However, it was never visible and the mouse never worked. I tried my Surface Arc Touch mouse with the same results. I took the gray one back for a full refund. Some time later, I updated OS on my Desktop PC to Windows 10 and paired my Surface Arc Touch (black) mouse with it. The mouse now worked on this PC. I then purchased the Gray Bluetooth Arc Touch Mouse. It also paired up and works great. I then tried it with my Windows 10 laptop. Again both Bluetooth Arc Touch (gray and black) mice work on the laptop. So, if you are running Windows 8 or later, I feel either Bluetooth Arc Touch [Surface (black) / non-Surface (gray)] mouse will work great. You should even be able to use the USB dongle Arc Touch mouse if the use of a USB port is not a problem. I can't say anything about other operating systems. Both of my Bluetooth Arc Touch mice work great on Windows 10 computers. I will check yes to recommending the Arc Touch mouse, but only if you are running Windows 8 or later and it is a Bluetooth model. Other OS versions are very questionable.

First I'll let you know that I got a Dell bluetooth mouse in a package deal with my laptop. It worked for a while then lost connection that I couldn't reestablish. Dell sent me a replacement, but it was the same, so I returned it & began looking for a new mouse. I saw this one in the store when I was shopping for something else. It was an open box deal, so I decided to buy it. I'm glad I did. This mouse works very well & is excellent for travel. It has a great design - it's default shape is flat & it is off in that form. When you're ready to use it the back half folds into an arc to make the typical mouse shape. This also turns the mouse on. It's very responsive & the scroll works very well. Though the scroll is flat (not a wheel) it clicks as you slide your finger along it, which is better than my previous mouse, which gave no tactile feedback. The fact that you can flatten it out makes it really portable. The mouse is powered by 2 AAA batteries located on the underside of the solid (non-bending) part of the body. I would've preferred an intergrated, rechargeable battery with a USB cord, as my previous mouse had, but that's minor. I have had the mouse about 5 months now & it's still running on the 2 Duracells that were in it when I bought it. I don't know if batteries are normally included or if that was due to it being open box. The one complaint I have is, as I have heard, common to bluetooth mice, it drops connection after a while. This may be a deal breaker for some, as it is rather annoying. The good news is that it is not permanent as was the case with my Dell mouse. Sometimes when it goes out, I move it around a bit it picks back up. When that fails I flatten it out, turning off the mouse, then turn it back on by curving the "tail" and it reconnects, no problem.

This mouse may be more expensive than some other choices, but Microsoft really hit it out of the park on this one for usability in its intended scenario. I bought this mouse for use with my Surface Pro 4 during business travel and it has surpassed my expectations. The mouse folds flat for easy packing in a bag or briefcase and snaps into the curved position you see in the pictures when you're ready to use it. This also acts as a power switch, so that mouse if turned off when flat - great for saving the battery. The device paired easily with my SP4 and has worked perfectly every time I turned it on. Tracking is smooth and accurate and the touch gesture based scroll functionality works fine too and even incorporates some adjustable haptic feedback. I've used the device across many surfaces, including some reflective ones which have been a problem for other optical mice, and this one has never failed on any of them. There is a free companion app in the Windows 10 app store which provides some modest customization options, mostly focused on the touch gesture senor. The only issue I've had is that the gesture scroll function stopped working once. Turning the mouse off and on again solved the issue. Highly recommend this for users of Surface tablets and other laptops where you find yourself needing a mouse for spreadsheets or other applications.

When I got my Surface Pro 4, since there is only 1 USB port, I immediately began looking for a bluetooth mouse that was portable, yet big enough to fit in my hand comfortably (my hands aren't extremely large, but they are bigger than average). When I found the Microsoft Arc Mouse, I was a little skeptical at first, until I actually used it. The size is just right and it fits nicely in the palm of my hand. It also works on any surface that I have tried to use it on with no delays or challenges whatsoever (wood, tile, marble counter). Plus, the price was right as Best Buy is always good about price matching Amazon. The only drawback that I found initially is that this mouse is battery powered and not rechargeable. However, i quickly got over that due to the absolutely ingenious way that the mouse works - straighten it out, and it is off and basically flat for easy storage in a laptop sleeve or backpack/computer bag. Want to turn it on? All you have to do is bend it and click it in place! So far, this has been a truly remarkable mouse and it functions perfectly for what i need.

I had recently purchased a Surface Pro 4 and had not purchased a wireless mouse. After some discussion with my more techy members of the family I went looking for a wireless mouse. I was interested in not tying up my USB port or getting an extension USB adapter, so I started looking for a bluetooth mouse, though I was warned that you kind of get what you pay for - the cheaper ones lose contact with the tablet more than you might like. So I figured might as well get the thing designed to work with what I had bought. It's pricey - and thankfully I found a Best Buy gift card in the house to lessen the blow. I'm glad I did. I can't tell any difference from the USB wireless mouses I've used from this - and nothing like what I was told I might expect from the normal bluetooth unit I might find. My recommendation - spend the extra few bucks relative to the price of the new Surface Pro 4 you just bought - and get a mouse designed for it. The shape feels good, the only thing I find different at all is how the wheel function works - but with some work, it becomes easy enough.

I got this mouse as a companion to my 1st gen Surface Pro, and it has stood up to every-day use, travel in a backpack, and the rigors of college life. It hooks up seamlessly to my Surface with bluetooth enabled, and is picked up and registered immediately when it is turned on (just fold it into its normal curved shape to turn it on, or flat to turn it off), and I haven't had to change the included batteries yet after several weeks of use. The flat "scroll wheel" provides tactile feedback without having any moving external parts (haptic or vibrating feedback like you might have on your phone) instead of a traditional scroll wheel. The sensor is highly responsive, and works on any surface that is not clear glass or a mirrored surface. The only thing that I could ask for on future versions would be additional navigation buttons on the side of the mouse where your thumb rests. Overall, this is an awesome mouse for anyone who has a surface, and wants the added functionality of a regular mouse, without wanting to use a separate dongle (not required or included with this mouse), or tying up your USB port with a wired mouse. Highly recommended.

I love the feel and look of the Arc Touch by Microsoft. It connects flawlessly via bluetooth with fast response times. The biggest issue I have is the scroll feature. Instead of having the physical wheel, Microsoft replaced it with a flat "wheel" that you swipe up or down with 1 finger. The feature would be great it worked. The swipe feature typically stops working after x-amount of time using the wireless mouse. I am able to correct this by snapping the wireless mouse off and back on again, but after x-amount time the wheel stops again. Very frustrating for the price and product directly from Microsoft. I wish Microsoft would correct this one flaw and I would easily give it 5 stars. The left and right click buttons are very nice with smooth transition. The wireless mouse glides and responds to pretty much any service. I use it with a desk pad or just wood and have no issues. Even using it out in public works great. I love the slim feature when its snapped closed as it fits right into my pocket. Runs on two AAA batteries (included).

bought after I bought my Surface Pro 4. you actually have to bend it for the mouse to turn on. to turn it off you bend it so its flat. i think that's pretty cool and convenient. since its flat when its off it fits easily into my tablet sleeve with my SP4. it works instantly when you bend it, doesn't take a second or two to communicate with my SP4 which is a plus. it connects to my SP4 via bluetooth so you need bluetooth on in order for it to work, but that's no biggie for me. the clicking sound is just a tad bit nousy. considering its a sleek looking mouse i didn't expect it to make a noisey sound when you click on things but i guess that's just a small and minor detail. but if you're using it all day it just might annoy you. for that reason i'm giving it 4 out 5 stars. all in all a great mouse.

I went into several local stores and tried all the mouses (mice? lol) they had to see how some of these newer models fit in my hands. Surprisingly, the only model that really jumped out at me was this arc touch from Microsoft, and thats going from the feel, not the aesthetics. I shopped hard to find the best price for the mouse online, because no way i was going to pay the other box store's 80$ price tag, and Best Buy had the best price on the current models, even after searching for a few hours. My only complaint would be the occasional lag when first picking it up, but that is all bluetooth devices, so i cant really hold it against it. That said, the Microsoft Arc Touch is the most responsive bluetooth mouse I have ever used. It fits nicely in a pocket or backpack, and when you snap it into action it almost immediately connects and is ready to use. I know this is not ideal for an everyday mouse, but i have enjoyed using it as one. Although clearly designed for portability and minimalistic footprint, I really like the way the mouse feels in my hand

This mouse is still my mouse of choice when traveling due to its ability to collapse down flat. The buttons are in an awkward place, but within a couple of weeks, I was used to it and the batter lasts for months. The RF version was wonderful. I recently purchased a new Dell desktop and the RF was having some issues making mouse movement jerky at times. Since the new desktop has Bluetooth, I decided it was time to convert. The bluetooth version of this mouse was awful. It didn't respond well, was erratic, and jerky. I thought it might be my computer after both the RF and Bluetooth versions of this mouse had issues, but I settled on a Bluetooth Logitech mouse and it works great. I'll keep my old RF version of the Microsoft mouse around for when I travel with my laptop but sadly I won't be using one with my desktop any more. I gave this mouse 1 star because it just doesn't work and I checked online after experiencing problems and it appears that this is a common problem that Microsoft won't or can't fix.

I purchased this mouse for use with my Surface Pro 4. Since I travel with my Surface, I want a mouse that would travel well. I love that this one fold flat and slips into my bag for easy transport. I also really like that by folding it flat the battery automatically turns off. Another benefit of this mouse is the Bluetooth connection. The Surface only has 1 USB port, so I wanted something that connected without USB. The Bluetooth connection is great and connects instantly. I was concerned with the shape of the mouse, but after a couple days of using it, I couldn't go back to a traditional shape. I should also mention that the mouse truly works on any surface. I use it on my desk without a mouse pad, at the kitchen table, in hotels and routinely on the arm rest of my couch. It works well regardless of surface, which helps keep the Surface Pro 4 mobile.

You can not fathom how appreciative I am to have a compatible mouse for my Surface RT that will not use the only USB port it has. My USB port was used solely for my wireless mouse. I remember those time I had to give the port up to connect other USB devices to my surface. I have tried USB replicator, but the best of them (to get the same USB 2.0 speed) require a separate power source, which I could obtain from another USB port if I had another. So I had to use more devices, and plug more accessories, making my Surface bag as bulky as a laptop bag. With this mouse connecting via BlueTooth, which I don't use, it relinquish my USB port so I can use it for other devices, especially thumb drives (USB Drives). The way it is switched off and is stored away makes it fit into my Surface case without any problem. (My Surface bag is now a case). It is the real deal, and I will definitely recommend it for everyone, even my dog.

This product looks nice, feels wonderful in the hand and responds very, very well. My ONLY gripe is that this mouse does not work with Microsoft Keyboard & Mouse Center software and requires its own. The big problem that I am adjusting to, is that periodically when the bluetooth disconnects or the mouse is idle for too long and 'sleeps' it will not wake up UNLESS I open Windows (10) settings>Bluetooth Settings, then the mouse will wake back up. Of course, one needs the know-how to navigate to Bluetooth settings with only a keyboard. I have resigned to keeping a minimized bluetooth settings window in the background so that I can simply Alt+Tab through until it is in focus, thereby enabling me to settings for my device to re-connect. This seems like a driver problem. In any event, this little issue would most certainly be a deal-breaker for the average user.

Very displease with Best Buy and the product Surface Arc Touch Mouse -- I bought the mouse with the Surface pro 3 on 7-7-14 -- now 3-21-15 the mouse has been dead about 3 weeks (RIP) -- I tried following the discussion on Surface Pro 3 help and troubleshooting but replacing the batteries & having them last 2-days only worked for about a week.. Then the mouse completely died..Tried returning the mouse to Best Buy -- but with their excellent return policy I was way over the return deadline....Wow what a @%$# for a $70 mouse - this is junk and I would not recommend to a friend -- If there was a rating less than a "1" I would use it

An interesting shape to say the very least. I find it to be very portable and that's really awesome. Sometimes the Bluetooth disconnects on its own or the scroll doesn't work in which case you have to flatten it and then turn it back on. It's not very good for gaming long-term and it makes your hand cramp pretty badly. Really this is just the sort of mouse you use for basic moving around instead of a trackpad or when you are in need of a more portable mouse. The scroll wheel that is touch-sensitive is mediocre at best. I wouldn't use it very often. It's not very good at responding and often causes more issues when trying to scroll through a large page or through an image in Photoshop. I enjoy that it is a high-quality build and it's fairly reliable but for the price I think they should have done a little bit more especially since the Bluetooth version only comes in grey

I purchased this mouse to compliment my Surface Pro 3. I wanted a travel mouse that was small to carry but large enough to not make me feel uncomfortable using it. The mouse folds flat to carry, so it certainly is very easy to pack. A plus is when the mouse it folded flat, it automatically shuts off so you don't have to worry about any additional switches or running down the batteries. I like that it's bluetooth so that I don't have to take up the 1 USB port on the side of the Surface for a mouse dongle. The touch wheel area works well once you get used to it. I had to shut off the middle click because I was hitting it accidentally. The settings app for this mouse in the Windows Store works well and lets you change what button clicks do and adjust the volume and vibration of the touch wheel. I would recommend this for travel use. I would not recommend this for desktop use all the time - there are better mice for that (that are also cheaper).

I purchased this when I bought the Surface Pro 3. I didn't like the idea of having to use the track pad on the keyboard (separate purchase as well, Surface doesn't come with a keyboard), thus I ended up purchasing this before trying the stylus. I have used the mouse maybe three times, I use the stylus for everything and it is much faster than any mouse. Pros: Doesn't require the use of USB port, connects via Bluetooth. To power off, lay is flat, no curve. Fits perfectly into laptop bag, or other small bags because it can lay flat, and not bulky like a traditional mouse. Cons: Not really needed unless you don't like the stylus. Otherwise it is a great device. Overall: If you like the stylus you won't need this. If purchasing a new device wait until you've had time to get to using the stylus over the mouse and decide if it is needed after that.

I like this mouse with my Surface 3 Pro. It is very flat when turned off/not in use which is in keeping with my desire to be mobile. Why I have a Surface in the first place. It is Blutooth, which means you don't need a receiver taking up the only USB port on the surface (your device has to support Bluetooth for this mouse to work). The only issue I really have with it is that the "Touch Wheel" sometimes stops working and I need to turn the mouse off and on to regain the ability to use the wheel. It also took some getting used to as the wheel is strange for those of us who are used to a real rolling wheel. On the plus side, the touch wheel is low profile and compact. Overall, I am happy with the purchase for use with my Surface. If space/travel were not a consideration, I would buy a more traditional wireless mouse from Logitech.
