I've been quite impressed by the features, sensors, and UI. I use it almost daily to track my heart rate and estimated calorie burn during workouts in the gym. While it isn't perfectly accurate, especially when drenched in sweat during intense interval training, it is close enough for my purposes. It is even more impressive while tracking runs and bike rides. The built in GPS has worked perfectly for me and does not require bringing your phone along. For a workout tracking device, which is what I wanted when purchasing, I have no complaints. The sleep tracking feature also seemed to work well. Now for the bad, the shape of the band is bulky and awkward. The flat screen laying on a rounded wrist causes it to stick out too far from the arm, as does the overall thickness, especially under the clasp. While comfortable enough for me not to be bothered by it while working out, I have no desire to wear it all day. If you care about step tracking the Windows app, and I would assume the ios and android apps, will track that when you are not wearing the band. For the Cortana, messaging, and email notification features though, I just don't find them useful enough to wear all the time. I would recommend the Microsoft Band as a workout tracker, especially for runners and cyclists, but I cannot recommend it if you are more interested in the "smart watch" features such as text messaging and notifications. The band is simply too bulky for all day use. I've been impressed enough by version one of the band that I wouldn't hesitate to upgrade to a version two if Microsoft can greatly improve on the physical design and comfort.

I bought this as I didnt want to be tied to any particular operating system, the Band is truly agnositc, although does prefer a windows mobile phone (for use with Cortana). I have Android. Set up was incredibly easy, it took me 2 minutes to get going. The screen is clear, and the tiles are user friendly. love that my emails and messages seamlessly synced with my phone and the way you can speed read a text on the small screen is really clever. I bought primarily for the fitness features, in the gym its great for monitoring heart rate while working out, and for tracking calorie burn. The fitness programs you can download I have yet to try, but excited to get a chance to do so. Also like the sleep monito, interesting to see how you sleep at night. The software will develop over time, and will only get better. I deliberately didnt buy a smart watch as I own several expensive watches already, so I can wear a watch and a Band at the same time, on different wrists and not look stupid!

MS Band first gen is good. Even though it lacks barometer, the GPS and right app can fill the gap. All time heart rate monitor is not good enough to monitor all time. After careful monitoring band I found that Heart rate sensor looses the heart beat after a while and if you want to see it working you have to unlock the band and go to heart rate page/window (whatever you call). It takes few seconds to acquire your heart rate and then will capture it. Rest I tried to full step counter but it is pretty good. Sleep monitor is also good and efficient. Notifications with reply option are only available for Texts, Call, Cortana, Email. Although the notification center of the phone can be availed it doesn't provide reply facility. There is a bug/problem/issue. When you get any call on cellphone, the band shows you the incoming call. You can either dismiss or reply with text. When you try to do any of those, first the call doesn't hung up, second the text doesn't go through. This must be because of Phone not listening to band. As a programmer I deduce this situation (and there are other scenarios same as this) that the phone sends messages/command to band and band can execute those but if band sends any to phone phone override it's own execution subroutine. Ex. If I get a Text and dismiss it, it still shows in my phone's notification center. Finally, it is a fitness band so notifications even though they they are, are almost useless due to only snippet of message and not entire message itself. Again best for fitness purpose, not a complete Smart watch. Best for $80.

I have tried several smart watches and couldn't find one that worked for what I wanted. I wanted a heart rate monitor and a basic watch. I liked this for its basic functions: watch and timer. The pluses are that I get text messages, mail, heart rate monitor, workout calorie tracking and connectivity to my fitness pal. It also has gps. Works great for my needs.

I decided to purchase the band when the price went down to $77 at Best Buy. I would have never purchased at the original price of $199 as I do not believe it has value at that price point. At $99 or less YES. Some reviews had stated about the comfort level of wearing it, but I have not found that to be a problem. The band is really good for all that it does. I wish it would allow me to download or sync more than just one workout, but I found a workaround in that I would just build a main workout and then add others as part of the same. Then I just skip or forward to the workout I want. I would also wish that the menu for customizing workouts would be better and add workouts that you often find in Men's Health. The only complaint that I would have is that, I have no idea if the calorie count is accurate. Example, on a treadmill at a fast pace walk, the band show always a lot less calories than the machine. The app on the phone should allow you to enter information about your eating activities such as what I had for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, drinks including alcoholic ones. It would also be awesome if you can annotate the app with your goal, such as weight target. In all, I can say that I really like it even with the improvements that I feel it needs. I like it so much that I purchased one for my wife which she loves, one for my daughter and now one for a niece.

The activity tracker portion seems fairly accurate compared with others that I have used. You can sync your data on an app that you download to your computer, so keeping track of your data really isn't an issue. I'm looking forward to getting a new smartphone so that I can realize the full capabilities of this device. The fit takes some getting used to as it is a pretty rigid band with a "bump" that can cause a pressure point underneath the clasp where the biometric readings take place. As long as you don't make the band super tight, the bump becomes barely noticeable after extended wear. The only other draw back I've started to notice after a few weeks of use is that the battery doesn't last as long on a single charge as I'd hoped (maybe 1.5-2.5 days depending on my activity level). It will give you a warning when it is time to recharge and luckily the time to recharge isn't long (~ an hour or so from warning to full charge). Overall the functionality combined with it being phone operating system agnostic makes it a really good buy for the price.

This thing is a pretty good tool for tracking my daily activities. The pedometer seems to be pretty accurate. My two complaints would be the actual shape of the band and the battery life. It's not the most comfortable thing to wear and the battery doesn't last as long it did two months ago when it was new.

I really like this band more than I thought I would. I wish I could respond to text and I notice when I workout for an hour the battery doesn't last all day... So I have to function without it, normally I jay don't wear it to sleep and use that time for charging.

The Microsoft Band is really nice. It's pretty comfortable and syncs well to my iPhone 6+. I think it is pretty stylish and accurate. I am excited however for the next generation, as the battery life and interface could both be improved.

I've tried android wear and pebble watch but I really prefer the way this band handles notifications and the interface is easy to read and use. I had the face scratched within 2 hours of opening the package and I'm usually very careful. If you buy this band, get a screen protector. I put one on over the scratched face and it hid the scratch and I've had no problems since. I haven't tried other fitness bands because I wanted something that provides smart watch features and would work with Windows Phone. This does that very well and the sensors are much more accurate than the Moto 360 I had tried out. I jump between windows phone and Android and it's nice to have something that does each without a hiccup. It's oddly comfortable to wear, but it's not the most elegant thing out there for sure. I don't even notice that I'm wearing it now so don't let the clunky look keep you from checking it out.

For a first generation fitness band, you can't go wrong. This almost has all the features a fitness fanatic needs except for swimming functions. This band is not water proof but it is water resistant. I love the UV and starbucks tiles. I definitely recommend this fitness band for anyone that runs and bikes. It has quick gps and love the notifications from your phone and I have a android phone. love the compatibility of this band.

Accurate Sleep tracking, wristband vibrating on notifications keeps me alert when I have my Windows 950XL on a table or in another room. Look forward to the Band 3. Have not used the workout apps yet. UV works, as soon as I exited airport in the islands. The band alerted me. Heart rate monitor is accurate to my estimates. Active and rest moments show. Battery is fine on both this and 950XL.

Purchased as a 'smarter' alternative for the wife, as another wearable did not offer notification details from her smartphone. She wears it daily, with casual wear...never with formal wear, as she claims it is not 'dressy' enough. She has even worn it to monitor sleep patterns. Good pairing with iPhone, including a useful app. I was surprised by this Microsoft product. I noticed that most people wear the 'Band' with the screen facing the palm(or downward)....which allows the screen to take a fair share of 'scratch attacks'. Overall, a nice product with ample notification. I'm looking forward to learning more about the 'Band 2'.

This band is a great fitness band. It tracks my sleep, calories, steps, tracks your workout program and even provides workout programs for you. It contains bike and running programs with GPS ability. It is always monitoring your heart rate. It will provide a full graph of your sleep, exercise whatever you wish. It is everything I was looking for and more. The only complaint I have is I wish the battery life was a little longer. I use the specialized programs all the time and these programs do use up a lot of battery life necessitating that I charge it daily. I can deal with this without issue.

I previously owned a Jawbone Up and this does so much more. Especially for the lowered price now that the Band 2 came out. Built in GPS is great for bike rides and runs. The weather tile doesn't show the right location (it always shows Redmond, WA) but that might be because I'm using it with an iPhone 6. Definitely get a screen protector because it will scratch. Also, make sure you get the right size for your wrist as its not super comfortable (but you get used to it). For $99 it's a solid fitness tracker. I'd recommend it to anyone over the compeition (fitbit flex, Jawbone, etc.)

Microsoft packed lots of sensors in this activity tracker. Loving it so far. Goods: 1. Heart rate tracker is very accurate (compared reading while doing stress test at hospital) 2. Sleep and activity tracker is helpful 3. Shows incoming text/email helps avoid taking out the phone Few improvements looking forward to: 1. It is uncomfortable with rigid material with near rectangular shape ( Don't know how Band 2 feels) 2. Charge lasts for only two days 3. Not water resistant 3. Weather info does not update as expected Recommend at sale price not at full price.

I was not too optimistic buying this. A lot of Microsoft's hardware products in the past have, to be polite, left a little to be desired. Having said that, I was pleasantly surprised at this recent purchase. The build is solid, the software in not clunky, and the experience is decidedly un-Microsoft like. The heart rate monitor seems to kick in and out a little too often, but I guess that should be expected with a wrist sensor? I only gave the unit four stars because of the aforementioned heart rate sensor issue. Overall, I recommend this product.
