    Fast loading office! Finally!

It flies open faster than previous versions I've used. The toolbar across the top took some getting used to since I've mainly used the XP and 2003 versions, didn't have much experience with 2007. Price as always is a little high, but that's the way Microsoft is. One thing I don't like is that Outlook isn't included like it is on the Mac Office version...(I know it's not "Outlook" on the Mac, but a mail client is still included on it at least)

"MS Office 2010" has an extremely fast load time.

While trying to write this review, I kept stumbling over the right words. If you are a "MS Office '07" user, you will quickly notice some new changes. First, "MS Office 2010" has an extremely fast load time. Click. Bang. Loaded. Its that fast. Second, the redundant gui has been stripped down. Even though the annoying ribbon is still there, the robust gui surrounding the applications has been removed. Third, they cleaned up the Office button features. Everything feels more organized. Some hidden features have been brought up to the surface, so you do not have to do any digging. My only issue with this version is the lack of MS Outlook. Bummer.

    Stick with 2007

I have used Office 2003, 2007, and now 2010 (used on a 60 day trial basis) I was so afraid to switch from Office 2003 to Office 2007, but when I did and when I had time to play around and teach myself just how much more convenient it was I immediately fell in love with it. When I switched to Office 2010 for the trial, I immediately noticed differences that I did not like. I did not like that they removed the little Microsoft logo file drop down menu and replaced it with an actual file drop down menu with less options and combined options. It makes it more difficult to find the things you need. The printing is less useful and is not designed like it is in Office 2003-2004 and Office 2007. I changed the color scheme to blue from silver immediately also because I didn't like the classic look of the Office version. It's new, not old! Overall, yes the programs are designed great but I don't see the need to upgrade to Office 2010 when you have Office 2007. Office 2007 is better in the fact that it is easier to use. Why spend money on an upgrade when you aren't getting anything. Also, even if you are a student at college and the school provides the software for you, I still recommend you to stick with Office 2007, at least until they come out with something better. I love Microsoft! I love Windows 7! But they made a product that is appealing enough to upgrade to. Just because they added a way to collaborate with partners and work on documents together. There are other ways of doing so and I am sure that they will come up with something for Office 2007 that allows you to do that like an add-in of some type.

I have had Microsoft 2010 for 2+ months and it is great. It has many new features and most I have not discovered yet. I noticed many new features in PowerPoint. I think that if you have Microsoft 2003 or older you should definantly get this. If you have Microsoft 2007, you can probably sitck with that until the next one comes out because there isn't a huge difference between 2007 and 2010.

Only average due to the installation

What can I say about Office? Everyone uses it, so if you want to be compatible you almost have to use it. The suite has all the features you expect, and performs as you would expect. But, you would think that by now Microsoft would have mastered the installation process. On my install, everything went fine until the end when it was about to place a rollback copy into the config.msi file. But because the config.msi file had become corrupted, the install failed. Not only did it fail, but after fixing the config.msi file I couldn't install the program over what was left of it. So, I tried to uninstall it, but it wouldn't uninstall because the installation program didn't support my language? English? It doesn't support English. As it turns out, it was East Asian that was missing. Other than my installation problems, it works great. But, I think Microsoft has gotten a little too big for their britches.

    Good software, but Microsoft's manipulations

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is typical Microsoft manipulation. Don't get me wrong, this is great software, especially Excel. However, when I bought my new HP Mini netbook, I'm offered a deal for this software for only $99. Of course that's only good for a SINGLE installation. But I have a desktop machine too. So I return the $99 stuff and buy this $149 version (same programs but up to THREE installs). Trouble is I also need Outlook and want Access which aren't included. But *those* programs are available separately for $140 EACH. Of course if you are a student you can download Outlook, Access, and Publisher for free. Microsoft, please sell us your products at a fair price and without all the marketing shenanigans!

I'm a manual reader but have been able to jump into using Word and Excel 2010 without written documentation. Just pointing at items in the "ribbon" provides useful information. Office 2010 is easier to use than Windows 7.

Required software for my 7th grade kids laptop to be used at her particular school, so while great product, hate being forced to buy. If they would use OpenOffice for a standard product, everyone could have it for free. Oh well. But at least it's not an outrageous price for the Student-Home version and able to load on up to 3 PC's.
