This laptop has been great so far. I purchased it a few months back and it meets my needs for performance and speed, although it was more expensive than I ever spent on a laptop before. I figured to try and future proof it as much as possible with RAM, memory, chipset, etc. Every device hits a tech wall eventually and prices only go up later. Plus, expanding after the fact isn't cheap either. I figured to go bigger now and hope that I get longer life out of it than past laptop purchases. I have used this as a laptop, tablet and docked to additional monitors and it works well in each scenario.

I have rarely gotten excited about any piece of hardware. My Ipad 3 was Ho Hum. Smart phones are a yawn and most laptops are just more work for me. THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING. It is obvious for the first time you start it up this is something different. It is not just a laptop and it is not just a tablet it is a new tool that really is crazy simple to use and be productive. First, the PEN is a must and so is a mouse....sounds crazy but hear me out. The pen for using in tablet mode is super helpful....I find myself on a screen and someone says I wish it looked different you click the erase button 2 times, the screen captures the image and pulls it onto the screen for you to draw on with all the tools you need to be productive. highlight, colors, pens, etc. You can save, send print etc the image you were just working on. I have impressed more clients will having this tool right at my finger tips and savings time and notes. It is a super simple extremely helpful tool. The screen is removable and you can remove it and flip it 180 degrees and use the keyboard as the stand while working in tablet mode or just to watch a movie or listen to whatever. The touch screen is really very sensitive and simple to use. This is EVERYTHING you wish you could do with an IPAD and CAN'T. Of course the other great things like REALLY big hard drive, memory fast CPU, super easy to adjust to tasking to conserve battery power. 13 hours I think is not attainable but I have gone 6 to 8 and not black out...... All in all I have 2 of these now, 1 for me 1 for my son....IF you are not a developer like me or a industrial designer needing lots of horsepower to render images, the smaller CPU are so fast you wont see a difference. I7 is perfect for what I do and virtual machines seem to fly like they are in native mode. Demo software runs great and the keyboard sits on my lap on the train/plane/couch. The other suface products are pretty cool but they just do not sit on your lap this is really great.

...Microsoft had made the USB-C capable of Thunderboldt. I use mine with a dock and do not like the outdated Microsoft dock. Other than that, the device is fantastic. Plenty of power for gaming and graphics (Adobe, Revit, etc). detachable screen for tablet mode on the go is great.

This thing does it all!! I bought it so I could do my design work, video editing and sound production on the go and this thing handles it like a champ!! Haven’t really used the “tablet mode” too much, didn’t buy it for that, but it does work and is a cool feature. If I was gonna do a lot of “tableting” I would probably go with the 13”, the 15” tablet is big even for me and I’m 6’8”... It does get hot when working hard so I recommend some sort of supplemental fan if you’re going to be doing lots of performance work (rendering, animation, graphics, anything CPU intensive)

Hi there,
Thanks for leaving your detailed use case. This machine was built for you! You are right to recommend keeping the device cool when doing things that are CPU intensive. A flat surface that allows adequate ventilation will ensure optimum airflow. Avoiding use one blankets or pillows will help too. An additional fan can't hurt, but might not be necessary depending on your environment. We are glad you are enjoying the device for your work and has untethered you from your desktop!
Take care,
Amanda

I purchased the 1 tb model with the 15" display in order to avoid packing and unpacking my Surface tablet so often. I typically travel to various locations to manage projects and am in each location for 2 to 5 months. The Surface Book 2 provides me with amazing power and speed without compromising portability. If I was going to ding the product at all it would be Microsoft's unwillingness to use the same HDMI adapter for more than one thing... ;-)

too early to give a proper whole review, as I haven't yet edited on this laptop. however, so far, it's fast, efficient, easy to navigate and I do love the tablet option with the screen. so far the only downside is the accessories. I have yet to find a case for the screen that would allow it to still be attachable and since the screen is fairly large, I get a little nervous of dropping it or banging it. so far though, very good!

This Surface Book 2 is a powerful laptop, excellent tool for architecture, battery life is sufficient. Bought it for architecture studio classwork, my Apple MacBook Pro just couldn’t handle all the design programs & kept crashing. I have found the screen on the Surface Book 2 is very fragile, already have a crack in it, was in a sturdy case too, not happy about this.

I love the size of the screen and the simple design of this laptop. Working with it as a tablet though is definitely challenging. Also, since I bought this I had quite few freezing (it would just freeze on me for no reason and have to restart) incidents, which is not nice! But all in all, I like this laptop and definitely recommend it.

Switched from Mac to PC and this has worked as a great replacement for my MacBook Pro. Also using it for Windows software development. Expensive, but good performance and battery life.

My daughter, an adult with autism spectrum disorder, loves to draw. We have used a variety of tablets in the past, but she was impressed with the descriptions she read about the Surface, along with her older sister's positive comments about her Surface desktop. So we decided to give this a try, and it's a huge success. My biggest concern was going from a powerful ASUS gaming laptop to the Surface, but my daughter is happy with the speed and performance of the Surface so far. We did buy the most powerful version, though.

This unit was bought to replace an HP that was recalled. This system is fast, a comfortable size that works nicely in place of a desktop.

I purchased the maxed out model of this laptop, and I’ve had it for about 10-11 months now. Everything started out great with the laptop and I actually began recommending the Surface Book 2 to a lot of friends and students at school in the same or similar art field as me. After about 2 months, I noticed the GPU (Graphics Card) was always at 0% usage. I went to Microsoft to see what the issue was, and I learned that with the Microsoft laptops, it comes with its; “own type of graphics card, making updates specific for that model of Surface Laptop.” So basically, whenever a new driver or update was released from NVIDIA for the graphics cards, I could not update it. Here I am 10-11 months in, and I think my laptop is fried. The screen randomly glitches, the speakers pop, random black boxes appear where there are file folders, my wallpaper gets deleted/changed without me doing anything, and I get a; “Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart” at least 3 times a day. If anyone asked me 4 months ago if I’d recommend this laptop, I’d say yes. If anyone asked me today, I’d have to tell them my story first.

The Microsoft Surface Book is very easy to use. It pairs easily with an additional keyboard as well as mouse and DVD player. I have not added a smart tv to it yet but am looking forward to it. I set my temporary office up on the dining table in minutes. The magnetic charging hook-up works flawlessly and is very convenient. Is it expensive? Yes, but hey, you get what you pay for and I have no complaints.

I've been a Mac user for > 10 years. Had to get a PC laptop for work as I was having issues with working from home and network issues. I wouldn't have changed but needed too I like the dual function of the laptop and tablet. Comes with lots of good software. Long battery life. Screen resolution could be better....my 3-year-old MacBook Pro has a better screen. A little heavy but overall been pleased for a PC.

I have been using the smaller version for about two years, but this new one is a bit faster and with double the storage. This truly can serve as a desktop replacement. What I particularly enjoy is when the announcemnt happens on the plane to stash the laptops for takeoff, I can convert it to tablet mode and keep working (or playing). Can't think of anything negative about this device.

I spent hours of resrearch looking for a versatile computer. My last purchase was back in 2010 and my macbook pro lasted until 2016. I was disliking the direction of the market with both Apple and Microsoft for a long time. As of a few years, its clear that Microsoft is looking to adapt. This machine is the answer and a shake up in the market. I revisited my graphic design roots and it only made sense to buy this computer compared to getting an additional drawing tablet ( Wacom Fftw). Efficiency for years to come is what I'm searching for now. While the computer does have some cons theyre bearable. Just be careful how you pick up the computer.
