If you're an early adopter and if you love all things tech this is the new laptop hybrid for you. For the price, if you're just looking for a functional laptop look elsewhere (Asus Zenbook). If you love the touchscreen, detachable tablet, and other cool features it's a fun investment. You have to go through an update to get Windows Hello working. The lack of sd card on the tablet portion makes storage planning a bit of a trick. I've attached my Box and OneDrive accounts as networked drives to counteract the lack of space and am very particular about what I install on this puppy. Battery life is ok. Overall I'm happy with my new toy.

I went back and forth between the book and the pro for awhile before I landed on the book. The full version of Windows 10 did it for me. Battery is great. I get about 6-7 hours of full use and battery saver does a great job of extending that as well. The screen is very responsive and the pixels make everything else seem inferior.
The keyboard is perfect for me and it does come apart easily if you'd like it too. I think I might end up with the i7 due to the amount of Photoshop I do which really puts a strain on the processor , but other than that, this is a solid laptop replacement .

For the most part I really like this product but here are the issues. This device gets very hot. As a laptop the heat is not a problem and performance does not seem to be affected, but in tablet form when you touch the screen it feels like it's burning you. I do not enjoy that feeling. The other problem which I can't seem to fix is the pen. When I first synced it it worked great but after some updates snapshot and opening Onenote ceased to work when clicking the pen. The pen works, in programs, for writing, and erasing as it should. Other than those two issues I love the Surface Book. Hopefully next updates will repair my pen issue. I have watched videos and researched and have found others to have the same pen problem so I accept as is due to its great performance.

The Microsoft Surface Book Pro is hands down the best laptop device thus far created. Fast, light, touch and pen touch friendly and it converts to a tablet are all winners. The fact that it also connects to power and ethernet through one single cord is also amazing and its compatibility with presentation equipment is awesome. Can't stop using it!

I should have bought one when it first came out. I love that you can convert this to a tablet at any time. Battery is great and computer is fast.I traded my macbook air back in for this instead. The sceen pixels are super clear and touchscreen sold me over the mac.

Surface Book 2-in-1 - worth it!

so I wanted to wait a few months after the purchase to see if it was worth it. To give you some background, this was my sons first year in college and he investigated and found this was the one he wanted. He said this was exactly what he needed. Its lightweight and the processor is incredible! Some of the reviews that he read said that we may experience it overheating, but he has not had any issues with that at all. The one thing that he didn't like, not a huge deal, is he lost the stylist. When he went to purchase another one, he was told he had to buy one specific to the Surface book which runs around 65.00; other stylist are not compatible with it. Other than that its running fine which is important. He likes that it works like a tablet and also a laptop. We made the purchase in August, so its only been 3 months I would like to write a follow up review at the 6 month and year mark.

Yes is little bit pricey. But so are good computers like the macbook. Great image, sleek design, comfortable keyboard. When on tablet mode, the use of the pen is great if you highlighting documents, making graphs, taking notes, editing presentations, etc. Recommended for everyday users like students and businesspersons.

The Surface Book is a great computer! I have been pleasantly surprised with it and the ease of use in Windows 10. I haven't had any trouble figuring things out coming from a Mac user. I miss my Mac sometimes, but this has been a nice upgrade. Having the ability to detach the screen and use it as a tablet has been really nice. Although I don't use it in tablet mode as much as I thought I would. There have been a couple of glitches with the Windows Hello log in, but nothing to write home about. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase.

i'm really happy that it is so lightweight and very easy to use. I'm used to a larger screen so that is taking time to get used to. I've done some photo editing and I'm pleased with the clarity tool I was able to fix pictures that I couldn't before. It definitely holds the charge for as long as advertised.

This laptop has changed everything in my productivity. From school to everyday usage, I am able get things done and use for my enjoyment. For gamers, this laptop can handle light to medium gaming, but heavy gaming can be an issue at times. This laptop has definitely been a good replacement for my old laptop. Battery life is decent to get through the whole day for school (not gaming)9. Overall, laptop is a good buy.

This was my first new laptop in close to 8 years, so how it stacks up against most modern machines is tough for me to evaluate. But coming from my last laptop which was several years old, was missing keys off the keyboard, speakers you could barely hear, weighed a ton, booted up in about 20 minutes flat, and had the battery of a windup toy, this thing is amazing.
I've had it about a month now, use it nearly every day, and have almost all good things to say about it. I do want to put a disclaimer out right away and say that I do not use it for anything demanding heavy resources. No gaming, no photo/video editing, etc. So I'm not that hard to please. The screen is bright and easy to read, although default font sizes are tiny right out of the box due to the high resolution display and will probably require some adjustment based on your preferences. The keyboard feels great, and I love the fact that the keyboard doesn't heat up when sitting in your lap. This was my first machine with a multi-touch trackpad, and after using it to scroll for a few days, I'm not sure how I ever lived without one before this. The speakers are great for laptop speakers, and have plenty of volume and decent sound quality for basic use. The batteries, at least while they are new, are lasting me more than 3 days with light-medium use on a single charge, which in itself was almost worth the price of the machine for me. I can leave my charging cord at the office on Thursday afternoon, come home for a three-day weekend, run completely unplugged all weekend, and return to work on Monday with 30% battery remaining.
I don't find myself using it as a tablet as much as I thought I might, which is why I'm glad I went with the Surfacebook over the Surface Pro 4 like I originally considered doing. When I DO use my Surfacebook as a tablet, I find myself more often than not reattaching the monitor to the keyboard backwards, so as to make use of both batteries as much as possible. It's a little thicker and heavier this way, but still very useable, and I don't have to worry about remembering where I left the keyboard behind. I also like that this can be used as a tablet while running full Windows 10, instead of iOS or Android or a mobile version of Windows, which makes it fully compatible with all of my software and documents on my office PC at work. This was probably the biggest draw for me when purchasing. The stylus/pen has some heft to it, which feels good in my hand. Writing is smooth, and while I don't have much experience with a stylus, I imagine this is one of the better screen-writing experiences to be had out there. I do enjoy being able to hand-write notes and illustrations on top of documents, which I use during meetings and even when practicing with my band. I love that flipping over the stylus and using the back side (eraser side) works like it might on a pencil. Saves me from having to hunt around the screen for the eraser icon. Microsoft OneNote works flawlessly with both handwritten and typed content, and I use it regularly on this machine whereas I barely ever touched that app on previous machines.
And speaking of Windows 10, this was also my first time using Windows 10, and thus far I really like it, and have little to complain about. There are a few minor issues that I have had, which are the only reasons I didn't give a 5-star rating, and I don't know if they are more hardware or software related, and could actually be a combination of both. The first issue is that periodically the front camera will not turn on during the Windows Hello unlock process. This seems to be most common when switching back and forth between being plugged in and using battery power. It's not a big issue, since I can unlock the computer with a pin or my Microsoft account password, and the problem fixes itself with a quick computer restart - which on this machine takes all of maybe 30 seconds. The only other issue I've had, which I've only begun to experience in the last 8 days, is that on a few occasions the monitor will not release from the keyboard. I will hit the release button as usual, but instead of going steady green and indicating it is ready to be detached, it flashes green and will not unlock. This has happened maybe three times in the last week, and in two cases a little bit of persistence eventually prevailed. Only one resulted in me needing to restart the machine.
Overall I'd say this is a fantastic machine, especially considering it is the first generation of the Surfacebook. I can only imagine these are going to get better as the bugs are worked out and improvements are made. I'd definitely recommend one to a friend!

Price is rather high, so I would except few issues, however, every so often when I first bought this there were various issues. One time I couldn't get it to turn on even though it had a full battery. After 10 mins of pushing power at various intervals I was eventually able to get it back on. I would expect such a high price machine to run better, but overall I do like all the features so it's hard to knock it down a star.

I like that it moves easily from being a laptop to a tablet, that the keyboard is beautiful, that I can watch hulu and netflix by reattaching the screen backward on the keyboard like it's propped up, and that the battery life is crazy amazing. I don't like that the aspect ratio of some websites is impossible. The font is super small and I'm trying to figure out if it's a Surface Book thing or the program/app issue. Overall, I'm loving it but I wish it was easier to figure all the size issues out.

Though I've had the product for only 4 weeks, so far, so good. It seems very convenient and very portable as well as powerful. That was what I had been looking for and I firmly believe I got exactly what I expected.
