    Fancy alcantara fabric, but.....

Bought this for my new surface pro. I love the fabric on the keyboard. Feels really nice and lux. This is a good keyboard attachment and serves the purpose. Typing is alright, track pad is not bad, could be better. Occasional misses here and there.. Trackpad is not good as a macbook or probably any good laptop trackpads out there. But i will take that for the portability and feel. After all, this is an attachment keyboard cover. All said, the build quality of the track pad is very questionable. 1) The track pad click is not consistent on the corners/ anywhere. Eg. If you click on bottom corners it clicks better, click top right and left corners and it is harder to click. It seems like an outdated track pad system. 2) The worst thing about this type cover is there is an annoying track pad rattle. If you flip the type cover upside down or shake it once upside down, you can hear that annoying click sound- as if something is loose inside the track pad. First i thought it was normal, then i checked the macbook trackpad and it didn't make any rattle or click sounds when flipped upside down. So i did some googling and found this used to be an issue with the surface pro 3 and 4 covers. Somebody mentioned replacing it solved the issue for them. So i went to best buy store today hoping to replace. The replacement had the same issue. I checked the display keyboards and all the new covers they had in stock, flipping upside down and shaking each and listening to each of them. Each and everyone of those had the same issue. So this is the way it is? I don't think this can be justified at this price. This is probably some serious design flaw microsoft overlooked.

I balked at the price of this, but I couldn't deny the other reviews either. I wasn't overwhelmed with other keyboard choices, and I know I didn't want to rely on the pen or virtual keyboard, so I begrudgingly opted for this one. It's a beautiful keyboard as far as the covering is concerned. They call it "Alcantara" which means nothing to me, but it feels like soft felt. It connects to the Surface seamlessly, and you only have to bring it near and the magnets pull it in and align on their own. It covers the Surface screen perfectly as well. The keyboard is backlit, but only stays on for a few seconds after the last key press. This may be a setting, but I'm fine with is and really seems to have zero effect on the battery. The keys feel fantastic, and I'm a fat handed ham fist typer and this never feels like it's going to break or bend. The trackpad is awesome and it does "click" when you push to execute a left or right mouse button push. The only concern I really have is longevity. The edge of the keyboard where the seam of the covering lies reminds me of the edge of those trapper keepers when I was in school, and that's where the bulk of the damage would occur. I hope that doesn't happen here, not that it's being rough handled.

I can't imagine someone buying a Surface Pro laptop and not wanting some kind of keyboard to go with it. The ideal way to use one of these is when it's attached to the Surface Dock and you have your favorite full-size keyboard, mouse and external display(s) attached to it. But on the go? This is Microsoft's portable keyboard solution. It looks nice and doubles as a cover for the Surface's screen. I don't really enjoy typing on this very much. It's just "ok". Has a flimsy feel to it and the keys are sort of mushy when you type on them. But that's just what you'd expect from looking at it.... I think in the end? Microsoft makes this as a nice compromise so you can have some kind of keyboard with your Surface Pro tablet that isn't inconvenient to carry around with it. But if you're going to do a lot of typing, you're probably better served by buying the Microsoft Surface Laptop instead of the "Pro" tablet?

I have had my Surface Pro for almost a year. I purchased the standard Microsoft Surface Keyboard in black. Decided I wanted a bit more color, so I purchased the Microsoft Surface Pro Signature Type keyboard in Gray. Excellent keyboard, however, the light color showed a bit of dirt/oil even after very thorough cleaning. I rest my hands on the keyboard as I type. The Cobalt keyboard is just as responsive as the other Microsoft Signature Type, but because it is a slightly darker shade of blue, the wear / oil / dirt is not noticeable. I tend to keep cleaning both the Gray and the Cobalt keyboards as I continue to use both...I simply feel the Cobalt much easier to keep looking new.

I'll start by saying that this keyboard is great if you need a simple keyboard for your Surface Pro. I've had no performance issues with it, aside from when Windows decides to download a rogue update, and the keyboard stops working with some apps. Install the Windows update, and all gets fixed. Yay windows. My only real complaints are these: 1) The keyboard is LIGHT, which means if you type too forcefully, it will bend a bit in some places. This also means that resting your hands on it might make it bend in some spots. I've been using it for one month and haven't had any permanent issues, though. 2)I like a full keyboard, with the number pad on the right in addition to the numbers at the top. Some of my work requires a lot of data entry, and a number pad is very helpful for that. 3) The light on the Caps Lock button is very dim and white, so it can be hard to tell if Caps Lock is on without typing to find out.

I bought this device for class and it is amazing!!! It is super responsive and supports full Microsoft programs and not just apps, has the full windows 10, and incredible battery life. Always had the device on the highest brightness and performance settings and lasted me most of the day. Was charging almost towards the end of the day. Great for media and content creation as well. The keyboard is awesome. Excellent key travel, well laid and responsive trackpad and every key has independent lighting. The pen is very responsive, fluid and is available in a variety of colors, also magnetic so can attach to the device without fear of losing it and has applications on almost every app and program. All in all excellent device, also very quiet and fabless Which makes it easier to use and does not overheat even with CPU and RAM intensive work. Would definitely recommend. Price is a bit on the high side but with Best Buy installments won’t be an issue.

I bought this keyboard with my surface pro since all my previous computers had one and I am used to typing on a keyboard rather than a tablet screen. I use it every day and travel with it. The great features include its light weight, dark color (does not show dirt as much), and the fact that it snaps easily onto the tablet. There are few negatives. Few times the keyboard did not respond but the tablet's keyboard still worked. When I turned the computer off and on, the problem got fixed. Few times, when I typed the key "y" I got "z" instead and the numbers did not respond, instead I was getting the upper case symbols event though the caps or the caps lock were not pressed. Again turning the computer off and on fixed this problem. The third problem was when the cover for "a" key came off but I found it in my briefcase, snapped it back on and it is fine. Even with these minor glitches, I still love it and am glad that I bought it.

I owned the regular black typecover with my Surface Pro 4. I decided to upgrade to the pro signature series typecover. The difference is quite significant in quality, comfortablility, and design. Immediately you notice the fabric that is used to line this keyboard. It is very soft and durable and easy to clean. Functionally, the keyboard buttons are slightly larger and makes it easier to type, I felt that the original keyboard was a little too small and had some difficulty with it. The track pad is slightly larger as well but the material (glass I believe) seems to make it feel more responsive and smooth. The function buttons have been rearranged, adding a screen brightness +/- in addition to the keyboard backlight adjustment. Overall to me this is a great upgrade and I am very satisfied with my decision to purchase it.

Though these are pricey at $160, it feels like a high quality detachable keyboard. The Alacantra gives it a luxurious feel and the keys are among the best with tablet/notebooks. The touch pad is definitely on par with the Macbook Pro's touch pad. I got this for productivity as well as to protect the screen during transport. I got the Cobalt Blue version and it looks really cool with my Black Surface Pro 6. Great job Microsoft. My only gripe is that, for the price which is pretty up there, Microsoft should have put a USB Type-C port instead of a USB A port. But it's not a deal breaker.

I don't see any difference between this one and the one I had for the Pro4 except for the backlight key. The older one had 1 toggle key for the backlight and this has 2. So if you have the previous version don't bother with a new one. These are comfortable to use and make a perfect screen cover in portable mode. The fabric on them is soft, luxurious-looking, and durable. Hardly adds any weight to the screen/computer/tablet. Folds so easily out of the way in tablet mode or removes just as easily if you don't want it attached.

I started off with the original Microsoft Surface Pro that was before you could angle the keyboard, it had a smaller mouse pad that was plastic and the keys were much closer together. This keyboard is a marked improvement over the original type cover as well as the type cover 2 and both the spacing of the keys the quietness of typing especially in quiet meetings, and the mouse pad is amazing. One of the best I've ever used on any device. However these upgraded Alcantara keyboards are missing one key feature that would make that would make it the best keyboard on the market and that is backlit keys.

The same old Type Cover, but sinificantly improved

Comparing with the previous model, the new Type Cover feels a bit softer on typing and there is a significant improvement over the track pad. Some of the function keys (F1, F2, F7 onwards) are slightly re-purposed, making it more intuitive. The Alcantara material has a nice welcome feel, however I think it may accumulate grease over a period of time. Also, I found the new type cover shows signs of bending at the attachment area on regular use. Overall, the product is good; it would have been far more useful, if it had a finger print reader as in one of the premium models backdated in 2015.

This little keyboard exceeded my expectations. I bought the surface to use mostly as a tablet so I didn't really expect to get much use out of the keyboard, but it's so convenient, lightweight, and easy to deal with that I ended up keeping it attached full time. I thought I would only attach it when needed. But the fact that it acts as a cover when closed and it's so easy to move out of the way when not needed that I literally just leave it attached full time now. Very glad I picked this up!

This is my 2nd surface pro computer and 2nd keyboard. The keyboards are very durable. I gave it 4 stars "only" because of the low illuminating light level - under the keys - on the keyboard. It needs to be much brighter. The new keyboards are not as brightly lit as the originals. The new keyboards have (3) levels of illumination.... but even at it's highest level of illumination, it is not as brightly lit as the original keyboards used to be.

I purchased this for my surface pro 4. The fabric covering feels great, I wouldnt use while eating though and I'm sure it's not a great match and will stain from greasy fingers. The BB employee said it well, you spent a lot of money on your surface because it's a premium machine, this is a premium keyboard, treat it as such. I had a surface pro one, and let's just say this keyboard is light years ahead of that. Close to a regular keyboard experience but very thin and light. Cobalt to me is the best color, cool but still professional.

The keyboard itself is nice. Feel and travel of the keys is just about right. It looks good too and the Alcantara ic comfortable on the palms. The trackpad however is lacking. It is small, a bit too small and input is a bit hit or miss. I thought perhaps the first one I had was flawed, so I exchanged it for another, but it is exactly the same. I would still recommend it, because they keyboard itself is good and it is pretty much the only option, but I would say 4/5 for the keyboard 2/5 for the touchpad giving it an average score of 3/5

The only "con" I can think of is that this Type Cover isn't included with the Surface Pro, as it's almost essential. Microsoft has gradually improved the Type Covers over the last few years. Now, the keyboard has a "laptop" feel, and the trackpad is definitely better. Not quite MacBook Pro, but surprisingly close. The Alcantara fabric cover adds a nice touch. Its durability remains to be seen. I believe that this Type Cover is compatible with the SP 4 as well as the new SP. A worthwhile upgrade for SP 4 users.

This keyboard is nothing special. It does the job. I am slightly annoyed however that the sales associate I dealt with misled me to believe this was the only keyboard I could get for my Surface Pro 6, but I should have been more thorough in my own research. I don’t really like the texture of the keyboard and I wanted a black keyboard, but honestly like I said... it does the job.

What really surprised me was the quality of the keyboard/trackpad, and how securely it connected. It isn't completely as good as a real keyboard but it's light years ahead of cheap keyboards and tablet-centric ones. The trackpad on it is sensitive and only outshined by a mac trackpad IMO. This takes the surface from just a tablet to a workable PC while keeping the footprint tiny and easy to travel with while still having a quality interface.

I love the color and really like the feel and spacing of the keys. It's extremely easy to attach to the Sun. There are magnets at the top of the keyboard that snaps into place on the Surface. Really strong hold. The keyboard is very comfortable. A little pricey: makes it hard to recommended to someone because of the costs, but if it drops to $80 I would say go for it.
