    Won't Buy Anything Else

I've had both Xbox and Playstation consoles and I've always loved the Xbox more. Even with the classic debate about this, it usually turns out to be a personal preference and that's all it is for me. I most likely won't ever stray away from the Xbox, I like the controller more and love what they've done with the custom controllers. Also I could never let go of Halo.

Not worth the loss of the blu-ray player

I paid less money than this for my Xbox One S a couple years ago. This is a gimped version for only $50 off the MSRP and I definitely would never pay full price for this. For me the biggest selling feature of the Xbox One S is that it doubles as a Blu-ray player (and it is a good one) so I don't need multiple boxes by my TV. Blu-ray quality is still WAY better than streaming quality and most people still have physical copies of stuff. Not to mention that sometimes getting a physical copy of a game or movie can be cheaper than digital (like if you buy one used). If they are going to remove the disc player then they should at least make it easier for people to remove and replace the hard drive themselves. If I could easily put one of my 8TB Red HDDs in there and load it up with my Blu-ray quality media it might be a different story but even then it would still be too expensive for what it is IMO. And no - I do not want to have to plug in an unsightly external drive.

This console can be a good option for certain use scenarios. If you're a COD type gamer that never plans to play your games again, it works. Kids that can put change in the disk opening? This doesn't have that problem. Think before you condemn an idea. That said, I would really like to see an external disk reader optional accessory for those that receive this as a gift, or later decide that a drive is necessary after purchasing this. This could very well be an "experiment" by MS, but it's not a reason to immediately hate it. For those who think it should be more than $50 cheaper, look up what Blu-ray readers sell for. It's an appropriate price drop.

      Hey there,

Thank you for your feedback on Xbox One S All-Digital Edition and understanding how it offers more value to certain players and audiences. The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition is built for disc-free gaming and entertainment, so it does not include an optical drive and cannot play disc-based media. If you feel that you may want to play physical discs or Blu-rays on your Xbox One, we strongly recommend investing in a standard Xbox One S or Xbox One X instead.

    But...why?

I tried writing a thorough comparison review, but BestBuy kept saying my benign, constructive, yet negative review contained inappropriate language but would not tell me what it was. In short, spend your money on the One-S or X and retain the capabilities 98% of console gamers want/need. The only way this console makes sense or is attractive to gamers is with a larger, solid state drive.

None of the negative reviews are worth a read at all. It's a bunch of fan boys complaining cause Microsoft went all digital. The console works like it's supposed to and technically should be under $200 but other then that it works as advertised. Don't listen to the negative nancys on here cause they have NO clue.

This is a good buy if you get it around $150 and if this is your second xbox. A lot of people still buy discs as those can be sold once you have finished the game. At least you get some money back when compared to digital ones. Do not buy this and encourage MS/Sony/Nintendo etc to move towards all digital consoles. It would bring in more revenue to them and no benefits for us the consumers.

    Gutted system at increased price

The PS4 has enjoyed a lead in gaming since its release. The one saving grace of the XBOX One S and XBOX One X is that they had a 4K Bluray player instead of the standard bluray player on the PS4. This may not seem very important, but for me it was just enough to push me to buy an Xbox One S. Fast forward to this, and this is a huge missed opportunity. It would have been easy to make this a must buy. All they had to do is to use that unused extra space to include a 1TB solid state drive, and a 5TB spinning drive. Why would I go digital only? Make me do it. This is terrible. They didn't even make it physically smaller... it's confusing, it doesn't add anything, it should have never made it out to the store shelf. The only natural reaction I can think of, is to buy a PS4.

    Niche product

I believe that this SKU is greatly overpriced. For $250.00 they could have at least upped the storage to 2TB. I purchased my unit on sale for $199.99 which seems acceptable (Holiday pricing should be $149.99). First off I'll start by saying the UI is flat out abysmal. I can forgive the arrangement, but performance wise it's clunky from the start. This is going to be a gift for a 5 year old (Roblox mainly), so I tested everything out beforehand. I was less than amused with the download and install speeds. The codes all worked without issue. I made sure to weigh the pros and cons of backwards compatibility in which only a handful of my library made the list (Still have 360s for that). I won't harp on the choice of games since I knew what to expect going in. The fan seemed to stay in high gear. We don't plan on streaming games, but I may see what Game Pass is all about. I have a Gigabit ISP, and the download speeds really put me off (they were actually better over Wifi). Overall, I would say that this isn't as bad as people make it out to be so long as you know exactly what you're getting. If you need a 4K player included, get the regular One S (although the performance of this has me considering a One X). I think that this unit shines when it comes to a household with multiple Xboxes for game sharing (if online multiplayer allows the use of the same title at the same time). Xbox Live will make or break this unit. If licenses lapse, and games are pulled that would equate to a bad investment. The same applies if Xbox Live ceases to exist.

Please if you are a parent or grandparent don't buy this for your loved one. This a gutted system that will force you to have high speed Internet and have a significant loss in media capabilities. This is an experiment from Microsoft for their next system. There is absolutely no reason to have a gaming console without a built in blu ray player. I'm very disappointed in Microsoft and I'm a very big Microsoft xbox one x fan. Don't reward them for trying to get you to buy a watered down piece of equipment lacking functionality and trying to convince you you're better for it.

    Waste of a purchase

This console only saves you 50 dollars. You lose the ability to use a blue ray disc player which is worth much more than 50 dollars. You lose the ability to play any used or cheap games that you might get down the road or simply all the games you’ve bought throughout the years. Let’s be realistic here, you don’t need to specifically buy a digital only console. Buy a normal one and all you have to do is not buy discs... trust me the 50 extra dollars is worth having a blue ray and disc player. I’ve always been 100% digital but just having the blue ray for movies and having the disc tray Incase a friend gives me a game is worth more than losing it forever. The console should be 199 to make up for the blue ray loss, no point in anyone getting this honestly.

    Maybe at $100 price point

I have all of the Microsoft systems - OG Xbox (one of my favorite systems), X360(less favorite), XB1 , XB1X Project Scorpio, so I have invested some significant amount into MS products. I never been disappointed in their systems. I also have a pretty powerful PC for gaming as well and I gotta say that XB1X is really up there especially when they optimize their games like what they did with Forza 4. Ok, lyrics aside, I don't get the point of this product at this price point especially. MS was all about backwards compatibility, which is a great feature, but how are you gonna use it without the drive? How about pre-owned games? How about selling games that you played and enjoyed in case you don't want them anymore? Not with digital. If I want to buy digital I go to my PC. Consoles always been about collecting and trading physical media, that's the whole point. They included 3 games (one requires Gold to play), but even that does not bring it to $250 value. Sorry MS, I have been buying your products for years now, but this one is just beyond me.

      Hey there,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Xbox One S All-Digital Edition. Just to clear up any confusion, the standard Xbox One S estimated retail price is $299.99 USD whereas the retail price for the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition is $249.99 USD.

The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition is the newest member of the Xbox One family of devices and provides the best value to gamers who prefer digital experiences by packing in three games from some of the most popular franchises – Minecraft, Sea of Thieves, and Forza Horizon 3 – so you can start gaming right out of the box. Microsoft sets an estimated retail price, but specific pricing and offers vary by retailer.

Microsoft, now your milking the systems blatantly!! How do you remove the blue ray player and not add an SSD for the OS? How do you only ship this with 1TB option and not 5TB? Since you do ship with 1TB, why can’t you allow users to replace it with there own 5TB drive like Sony has figured out? Wow, you are terrible at this console! How do you ship this console with 1TB that will hold maybe 5-10 games; still take forever to download, install, and reload games? This console deserves negative stars!

    A massive misstep by Microsoft

There is no way around it - The "All Digital Edition" of the XBOX ONE S is a terrible value. Losing significant features such as blu-ray playback and buying games on disc should reflect more than a "$50 MSRP" savings. Which in reality the BETTER XBOX ONE S is often sold at $250 or less across various outlets. Sorry, the games included are not going to cut it either. Chuck, you guys are not going to convince smart consumers on this one. Just keep shuffling the reviews out in Redmond and the entire team should reconsider an adjustment to this inflated price point on such a limited console compared to the rest of the xbox one family, which btw ALL which can be "All Digital" as well if the user decides to go that route. THAT IS CHOICE, not this abomination of a console for $250.

This console is discless meaning there is no way to play any physical media of any kind—this is Microsoft’s attempt at slyly trying to pull the gaming world into an all digital future where Microsoft has more control over game ownership and can push their DRM. To top it off other similar products that include a disc drive can be had for the same price or cheaper so there is literally no reason to buy this. The Xbox One S All Digital (aka Xbox One SAD) truly does live up to its name.

This console is way overpriced. This also sets parents up that are not familiar with gaming up for a terrible experience. Parents will go into a store thinking that they are getting a small bargain with this console or that this is the same as a regular Xbox One S but they will sorely be mistaken and feel advantage of. You cannot play disc movies on this and you cannot rent or play used games on this. This is not a bargain and you give up to much for the price.
