Customers are saying

Customers enjoy the engaging gameplay, compelling story, and innovative Nemesis System in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. Many also praise the game's beautiful open world and responsive controls. However, some players find the difficulty challenging, and a few note limited replayability after completing the main story. The game's strengths clearly outweigh its weaknesses for most players.

I bought this game because of the very high reviews that it has received and it was on sale at Best Buy so I pulled the trigger. My son also loves playing. I really like the feel of the gameplay and the graphics are excellent on the PS4. As a title that seems to be coming down in price I would highly recommend giving it a shot if you are on the fence.

The game is bit more challenging than I expected. I think they could have toned down the difficulty at the start. With that said, the game is beautiful and the story has kept me engaged. Once you progress and level your character up, the challenging gameplay becomes much more rewarding.

I found Shadow of Mordor to be a really fun game. It reminds me a lot of the new Batman games, especially the fighting system. Really like trying to chip away at Sauron's army and found it interesting to see orcs get promoted and more powerful when they manage to kill you. Missions have decent variety but can become a little bit of a chore at times, Overall I would recommend this game to any Lord of the Rings/Hobbit fan. 8/10

This game takes the open world formula, and adds in the nemesis system. I've had a lot of fun taking down the orcs who 'level up' as a nemesis after they defeat me in the game. The Lord of the Rings license is a bonus as well!

The game's fighting mechanics are really good, like Batman but with swordplay. The nemesis system is innovative and I predict many games will follow formula. Through the nemesis system, villains evolve according to how you play which makes every gameplay experience unique and personal. It's a 41/4 -41/2 star game but balances closer to 5 than 4. Graphics are well done; I don't see any shimmering or aliasing like Black Flag had. Villains are very detailed and crisp. The story starts out great then turns bland, but the gameplay, nemesis system, graphics, music all make up for it. I would have liked more epic music throughout, but in sequel I think they will make Soundtrack more epic. Play it loudly and in a darkened room if you can for a near theatrical experience in some parts.

The combat is fantastic. Very responsive controls andbthe open world is great. Stealth, brute force, whatever your poison you can unleash upon the orcs of Mordor. Still seeing new combat animations with each button press.

The actual gameplay is really fun; fun enough to make up for the mediocre story. Turning half the uruks in the area into my minions and making them attack the other half: awesome. Keep in mind there is no character customization or individuality of any kind. You can upgrade weapons with runes, unlock skills, and upgrade stats. I wouldn't pay full 60 for this, but 40 is the perfect price for this game IMO.

Fans of Tolkien will love this game. A 3rd person game, akin to the likes of The Last of Us and the Batman: Arkham series, this game implements a more mature atmosphere in all its bloody glory. Endless replayability and a compelling storyline, you may sit down, intending to play an hour or two, and find yourself playing all night.

Shadow of Mordor is an excellent game. You all have heard that the mechanics are a mix of arkham asylum combat and assassin's creed climbing, but the game makes these mechanics it's own. It is just plain fun running around Mordor killing Orcs. The nemesis system of Orc hierarchy is genuis, it keeps you highly involved in the game. The Orcs move up in the hierarchy based on their deeds (such as killing you) or your manipulation. A couple of Orcs killed me multiple times and leveled up so high that I couldn't kill them until I became much more powerful later in the game. And it was sweet revenge in finally taking them out. The story is lackluster and the final boss is a disappointment, but everything else about the game is great. Highly recommended.

This was a birthday gift for my brother and even though I play games too I'm just as entertained watching him play this game as I would be playing it myself. Graphics are great, complexity of possible moves makes game more enjoyable, but do wish it was possible to kill all the captains at once just so you can say you did it.

The game plays like two other games, Batman and Assassin Creed. But with the Nemesis system the game reaches into uncharted territories. It makes the game world feel like it has a life of it's own. There is also the small details of just regular orcs talking at a campfire arguing over who can beat who or even talking about how their captain was just killed by a human(you). Overall this game is great. Being able to manipulate the orcs and have them fighting each other to actually cheering when you finally kill your Nemesis who would show up at the worse time (in a big fight already) and rub it in that he has beaten you before. The Nemesis system makes this game an original masterpiece despite the ties to the other two mentioned game.

    Assassin's Creed set in Middle-earth

To be honest, I have not played much of the game. I received several with my new PS4 for Christmas and Shadow of Mordor has received the least playing time. My first reaction when playing the game was that it reminded me of Assassin's Creed but with a middle-earth setting. I am still learning the controls and options but I think it will be an enjoyable game since I love the middle-earth setting.

This is the perfect game for being the busy person that I am with little time to game. It's a great pick up and go game, a fantastic blend of Far Cry and Assassin's Creed but with Orcs and Middle Earth lore. The game is also visually stunning which is always a bonus. The price I paid was worth every penny and then some.

Great game with plenty of action, stealth and great graphics. A must have for fans of The Hobbit or Lord of the Ring movies. Great action as well and a great feature of the game is how if your defeated by a captain or general when you encounter them again they boast about their last encounter with you. Really great game
