Great remake of a great WWII movie.
||Posted . The visual on this is good, but man the soundtrack is awesome. I wasn't going to get this as I am just now building back my cache of movies from DVD and BR to 4K. But after seeing a friend who reviewed it and stated how good the audio was in this movie I decided to go ahead a purchase it. Lots of good acting, by Dennis Quaid and Woody Harleson along with Patrick Wilson and Ed Skrein. The 4K rendering of this movie is incredible. Not comparable to say "Lawrence Of Arabia" or even "Joker" but for the type of movie it is, it's great. If your a history buff, and like movies that pretty much stay within legal boundaries of what actually happened then buy this movie. They stayed pretty true to history here. IMHO.

from midway to midway....
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.the first Midway movie, with Charlton Heston was a very good and as true to the history as it could get, even some of the plane dogfights sequence are from war footage, I really like that one for the simplicity and fewer characters, the story was straight to the point and even though they are almost about the same length(new is 6min longer) the original one has a faster pace, however the new Midway is more focus on individual character more of their particular role in the war, not a bad thing , but it did take some of the scenes about the planning and failures of some of the attack and also it did not show much on the Japanese side, nevertheless, it is still enjoyable, the history is still there, and the special effects are very good, still would recommend. Although I would suggest to see the first one first, just as a comparison and reference..

Awesome in Dolby Atmos
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I stream most movies but buy the 4k Blu-Ray for many action or war movies where I want the best picture and sound. I am not going to review the plot of the movie, but I want to review the picture and sound. There are already plenty of movie plot reviews. The surround sound experience in Dolby Atmos is incredible. You really feel immersed in the action scenes. The explosions will vibrate your house if you have a decent subwoofer. It is a must have for someone with an Atmos home theatre. The cinemaphotography is good at times and excellent at times. The extensive use of CGI isn't even noticeable at times, but there are a few scenes where it is quite obvious. A scene where a sailor's clothes catch fire as he is pulled onto a ship is just awful. It isn't even remotely realistic. My final thoughts. It isn't going to change your life, but it is a great deal of fun to watch on your home theatre. It is certainly worth a watch and the low price of the 4k Blu-Ray makes it worth the purchase.

Well Done !
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Midway film of the late 1970s had "sense-around" sound that shook the theater, but did not have the technology to recreate the ships of the battle - the last scene was filmed standing next to a modern carrier This film picks up where the recent film Pearl Harbor left off and chronicles the first 6 ,months of the war. The cast, the attention paid to the intelligence coup that identified Midway as the target, the details about the lives of the sailors and aviators, etc all adds up to a great film. There is no way they could have fit everything into a film under 3 hours, but they did as well as anyone could

Fans of Emmerich
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This story has been told many time before and Emmerich does his version justice. If you are a fan of Emmerich you will like this movie a lot! The reviews out there are mixed and I understand that others may not enjoy it as a "War" movie, but I had fun with the historical approach blended with the "doomsday" grandeur that every Emmerich movie has. It also honors humanity by showing the perspective from both sides which may turn off some viewers. I thought it was nice to show respect for all soldiers, who leave their normal lives to serve their country. All of this wrapped up in eye shattering spectacle that we come to love in his movies.

Well done movie.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie was very well done and did a great job of using modern special effects magic to help capture the feel of the early 1940's time period. The movie is a condensed summary of the lead up to, and execution of the battle of Midway. A history buff will easily enjoy filling in additional details while watching, and other viewers will get enough of the historical development to understand the events and important impact of the battle. Both will certainly enjoy a great movie. I liked the way the director tried to match his actors closely to their character roles. The plot, action, special effects, and war scenes were terrific. Well done.

Decent Installment
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although the dialog was kind of a miss for Midway, it also is one of the more accurate war installments. The effects and sound design are really good.

Christmas Gift I can hardly wait on this one.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Item arrived without any damage. But the funny thing about Christmas Gifts is that my family tends to wait until that Wonderful, Magic Filled Day of Days to open them. This was one of the few movies that we risked going out to see this year. From that theatrical viewing I can assure you that this should be a great bargain. It will be hard waiting until Christmas to play this movie. Gotta put up the new TV, set the coloring, set the sound, and then sit down and start a binge out session with this coming right after our various Nativity shows. But it will be worth the wait!!!!!

You will appreciate dive bombers!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Digital special effects have enabled Emmerich to tell a more accurate visual story as well as accurate story of this amazing battle. In addition you get Yamamoto's sentiments about war with the US, the attack on Pearl Harbor, Nagumo's failure even though he was hailed a hero for the attack. Doolittle raid and the consequences to the Chinese people who helped his raiders escape the Japanese. My dad was a dive bomber pilot in WWII and was in combat for the most of 1944. I have even more respect for him and his shipmates after seeing this film. Much better than the original made in the 70s.

Great look at an important part of WWII
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I loved the original Midway with Charlton Heston! This one is nice because through the magic of Hollywood they can now show the battles themselves (not just news reel clips) and the Japanese ships, which you only vaguely saw in the '70's version. Unfortunately like the original, if you really don't follow who is who, and from what ship or squadron they're with, it can get confusing - but it also lets you know the characters a little more in this version. This one also incorporates other events that happened before Midway like the battle of the Coral Sea, and Doolittle's raid on Japan, so I like that it gives a little bigger picture of what was going on. Really like the job Dennis Quaid, Woody Harrelson, Aaron Eckhart and even Joe Jonas did. I enjoyed the film immensely, and it makes me proud to be an American when I see their resolve against superior forces.

BEYOND EXCELLENT!
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.EXCELLENT!!! This is one of the best stories about Midway that has ever been presented. The original in the 70's is very bad with old footage from the second world war and not much of a story about the actual Midway situation. The story is spot on with the modern special effects that have to be used because the ships and planes are mostly gone. Excellently filmed, sound and the 4K is impressive! I don't watch the newer movies that I buy for some time after I've seen them, but I watched this one only a few weeks after first viewing it.

Superb!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been an aviation historian for over three decades, and this film did an amazing job capturing the events leading up to and including the battle of Midway. Aside from a few nitpicks with things that most people will never notice (aircraft insignia incorrect for certain time periods, etc.) this was a highly accurate depiction of one of the most important battles in U.S. history. WATCH THIS!

Worth a watch
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an honorable attempt at a depiction of America's greatest naval victory. The drama drives the story but I didn't get a sense of the true events being a focus. It's more CGI and explosions than a sense of what sacrifices were made by our greatest generation of young men. It's not a bad film but I feel like it missed a huge opportunity to be something greater. I also feel like the film was shaved down on run time as some things that took place weren't followed up. There is a scene when the American Sub The Nautilus was with in an armada of the Japanese fleet attempting to sink an aircraft carrier but we never see anything regarding the Nautilus after the scene. Overall I'm happy with the purchase, the 4k version is fantastic and worth the buy. The cast is excellent and the story is solid for the way it's told.

Great Movie Showing Bravery And History
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very interesting and entertaining depiction of Pearl Harbor after the Japanese surprising brutal attack on the United States Aircraft Carriers in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Honolulu, Hawaii located on the Island of Oahu. It was a very strategic move, which could have changed the outcome of the war and the survival of the United States, but the USA had their own plan that changed the history that you need to see. I highly recommend this movie. Very emotional and heart breaking along with very graphic scenes that will keep you in your seat.

IF YOU LOVE HISTORY GET IT!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's hard to review both a movie and the product where you purchased it as well. What I do like about Best Buy is that they carried a discounted price on Midway for a good number of days. In light of that, and just as good, I picked up the last copy they had at the time! Service is always courteous at this store and I visit it often. I forgot that Best Buy had even sold movies except I stumbled into the section on the day I stopped in. Well, in all, I saw Midway at the theater and wanted my own copy as it really is an overall great history lesson on the early stages of WWII in the Pacific theater. It was fast-moving and certainly used a ton of graphics. Still worth having in anyone's movie collection and certainly to teach the current and next generation about the heroism of our sea warriors in days past.

Underrated movie of the year.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Saw this movie twice in the theater. My only wish is that it would have been shot in IMAX. I know that one of the criticisms about the movie was the over abundant use of CGI, but in their defense, the aircraft carrier was scrapped for a modern version and the planes that actually flew off the Enterprise no longer exist. Nevertheless, the acting was very good and was surprisingly historically accurate as far as I know. The blu-ray, dvd combo includes behind the scenes and insights from the last two survivors from the Battle of Midway. I highly recommend it.

Great cinematic history!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Every once in a while a film comes along both powerful and inspiring. This recent Midway film is one of them. I won't compare it to the original Midway movie released in 1976. I have that film as well. All I'll say here is that this movie explains in greater depth what led up to Pearl Harbor. The action sequences are top-notch, the acting and direction are also top-notch. The movie got some bad reviews from a few critics - ignore them. This film is a great film! If you haven't already seen it give it a chance, it's worthwhile.

History tasks a back seat to effects and loud soun
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.4K Picture quality shows an excellent level of details, and the many computer generated effects blend seamlessly with live action footage. The problem that I have with such CG heavy films is that, much like the average Michael Bay movie, they often lose the human element in favor flag-bang look how awesome these effects are. This isn't a Michael Bay movie, but it has all the hallmarks. That said it is a fine diversion with great picture and active audio that will have you ducking for cover! ...still, the originalb1976 film of the same name did it better, with practical effects and a cast of cinematic icons

Interesting juxtaposition to 1976 Midway film
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a decent movie that offered a slightly different take on the Battle of Midway. It extends the timeline all the way to Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor whereas the 1976 version starts with Doolittle Raid. It would have been nice to see Battle of Coral Sea, but the Enterprise air group's assault on Solomon Islands was something I never knew about. The other main difference was this film followed a USS Enterprise crew member versus the 1976 version followed a main character aboard the USS Yorktown.

Good War Film and 4K Transfer! Check it out!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a good war movie. It has a nice story, likeable characters, is nicely directed. the visuals are good, and the cast is great overall! The 4K transfer is very nice as is the audio quality. The steelbook design is pretty cool and I am a big fan of the plastic sleeves Lionsgate seems to be packaging their steelbooks in. I wish all film studios released their steelbooks in such nice and protective packaging. If you like the film as I do, then definitely pick it up on 4K!
