Eva Greens eyes, and dark subject matter makes this not well suited for young kids.

I bought this movie for my son and he loved it. He watched this movie numerous times now.

This is a nice Tim Burton film, and the film making style shows! I actually watched the movie first before reading the book, so as a movie, I enjoyed it, especially in 3D! Afterwards, I read the book (with the creepy looking cover!) and found out Emma and Olive's peculiarities have switched! There's a lot of other things that are different, but I guess the decision to tell the story is up to Tim Burton and his screenwriters! The 3D is good, but not necessary for this movie. It's a gimmick to show off some of the visual effects. Of course, you have the choice of watching the 2D version as well (which is why I like having both the 3D and 2D in the same box, and there's not much difference in the price). Hollow City, the sequel to the book, will most likely not happen. This movie didn't make much at the box office in the U.S., but was doing pretty well overseas.

Some have said this movie doesn't adhere to the "normal" Tim Burton movie style. In my opinion it does. I think it is in the vein of Edward Scissors Hands, but a darker. Not that there aren't any elements of humor in it, but they are few and far between. This movie is pretty dark and has some pretty scary happenings, monsters, and the like. So not for kids with vivid imagination or young ones under 10 or 11 I would say. There also are some emotionally distressing parts that might cause undue anxiety to some. There are some truly evil villains here. I enjoyed the characters and acting over all. There were some slow spots, but still the plot keeps you wondering about how things will all work out. A few hints of sequel? Not sure. . . but it does leave the door open. Without giving away spoilers, if you like the old horror genre with the usual Tim Burton twists, some grossness and some hopefulness thrown in, you will likely enjoy this movie.
