Gave it a star for each of it's powerhouse names that made this film happen (Arthur Penn, Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson, & John Williams). It was long enough to build it's story with a fair amount of pacing. Excellent cinematography (the best thing in the movie), very believable set design (especially the "downtown" scene 3/4 in), but in my opinion, worthy view.

Only movie JN and MB appeared in together. The acting is great by entire cast. JN and MB are great together. Presume they never made another movie because this was not a "hit". It's a sleeper. Randy Quaid and other JN ensemble actors appear. It is serious subject matter but the movie is sprinkled with humor and Jack's love interest adds to the plot. Music is very good and costumes and settings are very authentic. Brando is excellent as the eccentric, menacing "regulator". The movie draws you in and you care about the characters.
