Probably one of the best movies of the decade!

Well, I actually saw this movie in a kiosk for rent in my local grocery store. I remembered that my father wanted to watch it as it had much international acclaim and was from the very talented Sergei Bodrov and we all still deeply saddened by the untimely death of his very talented son (famous Russian actor [JR]). This film did not disappoint and in fact may become Sergei Bodrov’s Epic film! I put this film in late night and after an extremely long day and was stunned and could not turn off the TV (was planning to watch a few minutes). It was extremely interesting and was not boring at all (plenty of action) regardless that it was subtitled and the fact I could not understand a word of Mongolian (I’m not Mongolian) and their “beautiful language”. It was absolutely stunning direction and cinematography, bringing you back centuries and right into the action. I hope they are making a sequel, because there is so much more to tell. If you want a good movie for your DVD collection this is a sure buy and I will see if they have it for Blu Ray and this will certainly go into my collection!!!! BUY BUY BUY.

I really enjoy watching this movie. The filming is absolutely gorgeous, as it takes place almost entirely on the Mongolian plains and surrounding areas. Of the 50+ Blurays I own, I think this one has the most stunning cinemetography, and excellent audio as well. Also, I really enjoyed the acting from these unknown actors. Although this film is not heavy on dialog, it is only presented in Mandrin (with English subtitles). Some viewers may not like reading subtitles, but I think the Mandrin language adds to the experience. The lack of English audio was done intentionally. One problem I find with the film is that at multiple times, the story jumps in time, and results in a somewhat unclear timetable. Also, the main character "Temuldin", ie Gengas Khan, gets himself out of trouble with little explaination. Finally, the film ends before Temuldin becomes Gengas Khan. I would like to have the story continue, or be continued in a sequel. I have watched this movie many times, and think you will too. Despite the few problems noted above, I definitly recommend this movie because of the quality of the filming and the audio.

One of the best films I have seen in a long time

This film was well directed and had several great actors in it. It’s one of those films that suck you into it right from the get go. It makes you feel for the main character and when things don’t go his way you feel for him and when things go good you get excited. The only bad part of this film was that it ended. I can’t wait for the sequel to come out. The interaction between actors was great. The story line was well put together. And it was not one of those perfect movies where everything works out in the end; instead it followed the real life of khan. I would recommend this film to anyone interested in a great film.

It takes Sergei Bodrov 2 hours to not say anything

Feature: I wasn't sure what to expect upon renting this movie. I was expecting something pretentious, which I can live through--almost every Oscar-nominated movie is pretentious as hell. I was expecting acting, direction, cinematography and story, I guess. Whatever the case, this movie is a chore to watch. The cinematography makes this one of the d*mn prettiest movies I've ever seen. The direction is superb and so is the acting. Yet, somehow, they don't save this movie. The plot is a random bunch of tropes thrown onto a script, then spread thing over two hours. Nothing happens in this movie, and when it does, it passes by hella-quick, and has little to no meaning or consequence within the plot. For all of its feats, this movie ends up really being nothing. Which is a huge shame, because the feats mentioned are truly amazing. Video: Beautiful. Audio: Also great. Fantastic use of the 5.1 surround, a simultaneously subtle and explosive soundscape, I love it. Features:...Yeah...didn't really bother to watch any of these, so...yeah.
