Customers are impressed with the advertised features of the 35-Mile, 22-Channel FRS/GMRS 2-Way Radios (Pair). However, many customers reported significantly less range than expected, particularly in urban environments. Several users experienced the radios cutting out at much shorter distances than advertised. The actual range achieved fell far short of the advertised capabilities for many users.

The range and performance on these is very poor. Purchased these to replace a pair of another brand of radios, one of which broke. Took them hunting earlier this month, and a partner just 15 yards away when we tested them said he could barely hear me. At 100 yards, there was a lot of static. At 200 yards, no one could hear me at all, even over nearly flat terrain. I hope Best Buy will let me return these, as it's been over 30 days and I don't have the original packaging. The flashlight is a nice feature, though.

I didn't test them in the woods, only in an urban area. I knew I wasn't going to get anywhere near the 35 mile range advertised, but the package said to expect about a 2 mile range in urban areas. I tested it, and only got about 3 blocks before they complete cut out. They probably work much better in the wilderness, but they definitely don't do anywhere near as well as they say.

I've found it very reliable for communication b/w our office & warehouse, roughly 400 yards apart.
Hardly works more than 2 miles in urban area.
Never tried in mountainous area.
