    Great Budget Phone

I heard this was one of the best budget phones on the market for its value, and I totally agree. I got this on sale during Black Friday for $99, and it has surpassed my initial beliefs about it. It actually has a nice screen at 5'' and a pretty decent camera at 13MP on back and 5MP on front. The major plus is that the phone is that it is unlocked, so you can use it with your preferred carrier. Most phones cost well over $200, and in most cases, they aren't unlocked. The only downside is 8GB isn't much memory storage, but you can get a SD card to increase the memory. The battery is superb! I can get about two-three days of phone use if I'm not using any applications. For a budget phone, it isn't the same as a high-end phone of course, but this phone doesn't feel like it's on the lower-end as well - it has actually has pretty good quality. I would definitely suggest you get this phone out if you are looking for something affordable. Well done, Motorola!

This is an excellent phone and value for money in this price range. For normal users, this is simply perfect. Pros: - screen quality: very nice quality, color display is awesome - screen size: 5" size is just perfect, fits in hand well. anything more than this starts to feel big - touch responsiveness is great - front speaker - awesome selfie camera - overall camera is average but front facing camera is really good. - decent battery life - unlocked: this can be used with any sim card - SD card slot: very handy if you want more storage which you will need for sure. - android OS updates: this has android 5.0.x version - default google android feel - motorola has not changed much in default apps or launcher, this is just like default android google experience Cons: - not able to handle multiple tasks at once - hangs sometimes - No 4G LTE

The Moto G is a lot of phone for your money. I really wasn't excited about switching to Android after my old lumia became unreliable, but the Moto G has exceeded my expectations. The screen size is just big enough for comfortable reading and just small enough to be comfortable in a bigish pocket. It has a nice weight and feels solidly built. The camera takes nice pictures and the flash is quite bright. The speakers are good, too. I was surprised by the stereo quality, but they could be a bit louder. I am not a power user, so I can't really comment on the processing speed, etc. I do have to say, coming from Windows phone, Android is still a rather steep learning curve. I find it to be not nearly as straightforward to find functions and there are things I miss that I feel a fifth generation system like lollipop ought to have. For example, I shouldn't have to use a third party texting app in order to assign individual text tones to my contacts. Overall however, I'm quite satisfied. The Android annoyances are the only reason for four stars instead of five.

I purchased this phone for work and it replaced an iPhone 5. The screen size is equal to my personal iPhone 6. While I'm still getting used to it, it seems to perform well, voice is go as is data with AT&T. I don't use it for watching movies or listening to music. It does run on exchange fine for email, calendar and contacts. That's all I was looking for but it the job well for the $179 price. It just upgraded to Lollipop with no issues to date.

We bought a pair of these phones to get out from under the hefty contracts of the large providers. The phones have a ton of features and, being unlocked, also have the potential of being used overseas. The phones have been working very well with no problems at all. The only concern - and thus not a 5-star rating - is that their battery life seems to be a little on the short side. Even that is improving a bit, though, as we cut down on the number of active apps running.

I bought this phone as a spare. The price at the time (Black Friday), coupled with being unlocked made it a bargain. A few gripes about the phone; one being it seems slower than my other phone. I have to remind myself this is a mid-range phone, so I shouldn't expect the performance to be than of my higher-end phone. The second (and this is a deal-breaker), this phone had NO LTE. Again, I have to remind myself this isn't my regular high end phone, it's a "spare". I think with a software update, the slow performance might be fixed (Motorola has said it will send out the Android 6.0 update soon). Potential buyers looking for a spare phone as I was, please remember that this model DOES NOT have LTE. If you need an unlocked phone at a reasonable price, be sure to look at the 3rd generation Moto G, as that model does have LTE, as well as slightly higher specifications.

I actually purchased this device for my mother because she wanted move from her flip phone to a smartphone. I was impressed by the features this device had, the camera quality was good, the purely stock Android experience was welcomed as well. My only concern would be the non removable battery but since she isn't such a demanding user this device seemed like a good fit. We all love the stereo front facing speakers, and if it was a bigger screen size I'd actually consider getting one for myself. (I'm on the Galaxy Note series).

Upgraded to this from a first generation Moto G. On sale price at BB was $99. This phone was USA Today newspaper's 2015 choice for best value smart phone and I have to agree. Nice size screen. Good battery life. You'll want a screen protector, case and storage card for this and you'll have a nice phone for a great price. I've had my phone for about a month and a half and haven't had any issues with it.

Best mid-priced off contract smartphone available

If you are in the market for mid-range priced, unlocked (no 2-year contract) Android mobile phone then the Motorola - Moto G (2nd Gen) is the thee best offering available for sale in North America right now. Everything about this phone is mid-range and acceptable, but in this case that isn't a bad thing. For example: - 5" 720p screen is acceptable if not better than acceptable - the one generation old Snapdragon 400 processor is acceptable - HSDPA for data (instead of the faster, newer LTE) is acceptable - the 8MP rear camera is acceptable - the non-removable Li-Ion 2070 mAh battery is acceptable Bottom line: this phone represents all the right compromises for its sub $200 price. I picked up the white 8GB model and I found the white colored case to be crisp, bright and clean without picking up any dirt or grime in the last 4 weeks of constant but gentle use. Think you'll get tired of an all white phone? No problem, Motorola offers for sale from its website reasonably priced shells and flip case shells which let you to quickly swap out and freshen up your phone with a new color to suit your desire. Concerned 8GB is internal space isn't enough? Pick yourself up a 16 or 32GB MicoSD card (yes, this phone can accept it). Another nice thing about this phone is that as of late November 2014, this phone can be upgraded to the latest major Android OS release named Lollipop. After being prompted onscreen to update, I did and the phone has been functioning without issue. Amazing to be running the very latest Android version 5 for on such an inexpensive phone when phones costing three times more don't yet have the option to update. If you need a new mobile phone but can't (or won't) ante up for a full priced $500-600+ flagship phone but still want to avoid getting locked into a 2 year contract with a mobile carrier? Without a doubt, this is the phone for you.

My wife needed a new unlocked cell phone and we are not on a contract. Last year I got her a "Alcatel, OneTouch" and that's trash (didn't last 10 mths before causing problems). The Moto-G 2nd Gen is a wonderful phone with great features. I got the 8GB, world usage version and this phone is performing wonderful for a person that want good current features, but does not want an expensive smart phone. I think I like the Moto-G 2nd Gen more that my Galaxy 4.

First things first, if you are planning to upgrade from the 4G version of the first Moto G, you might want to hold onto it for now. This Moto G sports the same chipset as the first generation (Quad-Core Snapdragon 400) however it amps up the screen size (still 720p) and camera quality for both the back and front camera's, from 5 to 8MP, and 1.2 to 2MP respectively. Another great thing to note is that the SD card slot comes standard in all models, unlike the previous generation. For the $180 I paid, I still get more value and performance out of this than most phones that cost even more. The fact that its a stock android experience and the ability to upgrade immediately to Android 5.0 is the sweet colorful icing on the already delicious cake.

I bought this phone for my mother-in-law. I was a little hesitant to buy and worried about the quality of the smart phone for that price. Once we started using it, this turned out to be an awesome device with bright colors and 5" screen and a solid grip. There are lags sometimes but a solid device for the given price. This is a good buy for people with budget in mind.

Am a T-Mobile customer and bought this phone unlocked because I won't adhere to T-Mobile's silly and overpriced 'payment' plans. My old sim card wouldn't fit so I had to go to T-Mobile and get a new one but I'm still way ahead of the game pricewise. As for the phone, it's great, fast, not loaded down with all kinds of useless apps and software, which makes it super fast. If your an familiar with android use, you'll be fine. Camera is super sharp and internet access real easy. Just a great bargain for a very good phone.

The phone so far is performing good with 1 month of use. It gives the value for money with unlocked phone can be used in pay as you go plan which further lowers the total phone cost. I am very happy with the phone except that battery dies in 1 day which I guess is true for any smart phone.
