Best budget phone you can get

I was looking for a phone for my mother who really doesn't know anything about technology, and would have no need or appreciation for what extras a $700 phone would offer. So, I wanted a budget price but without being rather lame or awful like many of them are. This one fits the need perfectly. I'm impressed by nice this phone is. The screen looks good. Swiping and navigating around the screen also feels good and is quick and pleasant. It is fast. Wifi and mobile data all work great. The camera is decent enough but I've had better (our LG G2 and LG G4 both have better camera). Calls are good. And, the battery life is rather surprising; I have had this on for 3 days so far, playing with it some during that time, and battery still says 80%. My LG G4 would be drained the same day. The phone even has a microSD slot, and that's unusual for a budget phone (although Mom will not be needing that). One minor annoyance was that the virtual keyboard installed in here is terrible (letters too small and no borders around each letter). I easily rectified this by installing SwiftKey. Best Buy could not activate it even though I bought it there, but 3 doors down was AT&T who had little trouble adding it to my plan. I have seen reviews about it getting "hot"... this in no way got anything close to hot after several hours of use. It barely gets slightly warm. This phone is so good that many people should question whether a $700 phone is at all necessary for them. Although, it may be: This phone can't tell where it is pointed, so features such as Google Photosphere, or Google Sky Map, or a compass or geocaching app are going to be useless. But, you can still navigate with this phone since navigation apps like Waze and Google Maps know which direction you are headed based on your coordinates changing in a specific direction down a road. And, the camera may be an issue if you need the absolute best. I gotta say I haven't used the camera enough yet to be sure how good it really is or not, but what little I did seems okay so far. Comparisons with other budget phones: A few months back, I bought a Samsung J3(6) as a budget phone for about the same price. That thing was terrible (slow and the screen felt very bad with lots of friction making it difficult to swipe), and screen stopped working after a week so I returned it. My wife has an LG G2 for about the same price, and it is terrific, but they don't make it anymore. So, I think the Moto G4 is your best bet now.

I had this less than 2 years and started having difficulties with it. It started with the screen showing ghost of previous screens, wouldn't open apps or screens at times and finally wouldn't start at all. I lost photos and other things because when i bought a new phone I couldn't get to them to transfer.

Bought 2 of these unlocked phones as a gift for family. Only 1 worked, the other did not. Unfortunately, due to the 14 day exchange policy, I was unable to exchange it I took as a gift for someone back in India for my 3 week trip. Best Buy should consider extending the holiday exchange period for phones to 30 days.

    Great Unlocked Phone

I have Verizon and this was the first time that I have purchased an unlocked phone. I am extremely happy with this purchase. I came from a Samsung S5, in which the microphone went out multiple times, and did not feel like paying into a 2 year contract for overpriced phones that fail before two years. This phone was 1/4 the cost of a new plan phone, and it is as fast if not faster than my Samsung S5. Screen is very clear with 1080p and as big as I would prefer to go (5.5"), and out of the box the battery is lasting 2 days, using apps and occasional games. When the power is very low the turbo charging is amazing, especially if you don't have much time and need a quick charge. Another pro of this phone, it does not come with all the bloatware phone providers give you on your phone--you get the standard google apps, and then download what you need/use. I don't think I will buy a contract or leased phone again, especially when you can get this quality for way less money (or spend more on a better unlocked phone). Cons: Best Buy could not activate my phone in store, and I had to go to a Verizon store directly. The Verizon store had trouble activating it, but they did end up getting it to work, so for those who go into Verizon and they try to tell you it won't work so you have to buy their phones, they can do it. Additionally, a minor con, no accessories come in the box such as headphones or anything, you just get the phone and a turbo charger (short length cord). It would be nice if accessories such as phone cases, were out to purchase for the phone at Best Buy to protect my phone.

A great budget phone with one striking flaw

I bought this when it first came out for full price and was very happy, especially since Best Buy gave a gift card out along with it. The phone is very reliable. I would've preferred a smaller phone, but that can't be faulted on the device that clearly labelled how big it was. But there is one flaw I, and inevitably EVERY purchaser will encounter- the camera lens. This phone has a remarkably good 16 MP camera, and it takes stupendous pictures. For the first couple of months, anyway. It didn't take long until I noticed my pictures became unapologeticly blurry, and I could wrap my head around why. For months, any pictures I took for auction sites were pitiful (and probably affected my sales!), but I didn't really want to "upgrade" to the G5, a phone with trivial improvement. It then hit me after seeing a lens replacement on YouTube- the scratched lens was the reason! A quick Internet search on popular forums, including Lenovo's, will reveal a significant amount of people suffer with the poor quality lens. It scratches even with a case, and that's a problem. LUCKILY, the lens isn't that difficult to replace if you find a third-party replacement on eBay. With a hairdryer to remove the adhesive of the old one and tweezers to install the new, my camera went from 2 MP quality back to 16! I know this review is limited on details, but you can find those elsewhere. I just wanted to point out that, as long as you're willing to buy a $7 replacement lens and change it yourself, this is the perfect budget phone.
