I have been using it since last year, it is really great phone. Great thing about this one is no bloatware, absolutely no junk on the phone.

    No Compass

I wanted this phone primarily as a back-country GPS device. I'm not even going to put a sim card in -- just use it as like a mini tablet for GPS (I do this with my Moto G gen-1). It has a nice screen, seems fast, plugged in my 32GB microSD with media, and the GPS synced fast with my backcountry navigator app. But I noticed the compass wasn't working. My Gen-1 Moto G has a compass. This is the device I am still using. This new one with lots of nice improvements does NOT have a compass. Please note, if you want to use this for everyday city activities, this phone will work nicely for you. Google maps will work well too. But if you are interested in using this as a backcountry GPS type of device the lack of the compass makes the GPS app less effective.

Good phone, but lacks important features

The voice quality is good, and it's fine for searching the Internet and doing email. But it has two drawbacks which are huge for me. First, the phone doesn't support wifi calling. This is really a bummer because I have TMobile Service, which 1) is unavailable in many parts of New England and 2) supports wifi calling on many devices - but not this one. The second problem is that it has a GPS which pretty much only works if you're connected to a cell network or the Internet. I've downloaded MapsME, which works well offline on my Samsung tablet, but only occasionally on this phone. I really needed a phone that supported TMobile wifi calling and an offline GPS and this is not it.

      Hi shopaholic,

This phone is Wifi calling capable phone. You may have to check with your carrier if this phone is included to their Wifi calling supported phones. GPS really needs internet connections to be accurate.

    Terrible

I only got this phone because my Galaxy s6 took a swim and I needed something until the Note 7 was available. This is an unlocked phone which I thought would be nice to not have all the preloaded BS a lot of phones have. The interface works fine but a lot of apps are not compatible. The phone has a hard time connecting to Wifi and if you turn it off while out and about and then turn it back on, it will not auto connect to your own Wifi. It also will not autoconnect to my bluetooth in my car so you I am always having to open settings and click connect. Very dissapointed in the phone and looking forward to returning this phone and getting my Note7 tomorrow.

    Headphone Jack

Headphone Jack is a problem on new Moto g4 2017. Seems to be a problem with Moto in general. Do search. Does not make good contact and sound cuts in and out. BOSE ear buds work great in all other devices. Will go back to Best Buy.

    No Windows PC Driver Support

Its a great phone for the price, love that it works on all major cell networks, BUT.... No PC connectivity with Windows 7 or Windows 8 is a total dea lbreaker If you can't drag and drop files (photos, music etc) between your phone and PC over USB that's a huge bummer for such a simple form of connectivity in today's day and age (heck a $5 usb stick can do it!) Hoping its just a new phone with some new rollout hiccups/glitches, but gosh such ubiquitous PC connectivity issues is really unacceptable. Hoping they roll out an update soon here, otherwise I'm going to have to return it before the Best Buy return window closes :(

    Horrible Quality Control

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Moto G4 is great when it works. Bought four phones for the family; 6 months later, two had no issues still and are great, and the other two do nothing but crash on a multitude of apps, experience bugs that affect settings and drop calls or have issues even placing them frequently. Looking online, it seems we are not alone for many of the bugs we've experienced. Same mobile provider and everything else, so they're about as identical as you can get between four phones. All in all, great phone if you get one that works, but it seems to us like that's a 50/50 chance.

      Hi Alex,

Thanks for your feedback! This phone has great features. We usually do some troubleshooting steps to figure out the cause of what you are experiencing. There are instances that this happens due to third party apps. Try resetting the device and set it up as a new device and see how it goes.

    Nice Hardware, connection problems

Moto G4 2016 model with Androids 6.0 Marshmallow OS is constantly losing connection with the phone's SIM card resulting in having no cell service sometimes the signal is restored by itself, sometimes it isn't. I have to constantly restart the phone to temporarily repair the problem. Yes i have tried both Verizon and AT&T sim cards, i even tried a brand new AT&T sim card from bestbuy, the sim cards work in the HTC one M8, Galaxy 5S, iphone 5 and 6 with know problems its only the Moto G4 with the problem. Other than the many occasions i wasn't able to access the cell network i was impressed by the phone. Sadly i bought the phone to work as a phone.

The specs are impressive: 8 core processor, nice camera but for $200 it still doesn't support Android Pay because it doesn't have NFC!! So disappointed!

search the web for ghost touch before buying this

search the web for ghost touch before buying this phone. The Moto G4 has a problem that is so common that it has been given its own name; Ghost Touch. Basically the screen goes crazy. I'd advise you to research it on yoru own and then buy another phone. It used to be that Motorola was really the only choice for a quality $200 phone. Now there are plenty of other options that don't have the manufacturing defect so common in the G4. I wish I had bought something else instead.

    Great Phone, Terrible Support

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The phone itself is an excellent bang for your buck. Regarding the phone the only minor gripes is it is a touch large, the battery life could be a hair better, and it doesn't support wi-fi calling. The crux of the issue is Motorola has terrible warranty support. Even when they confirm they sent a defective phone, they require you to ship the phone back, waiting for an extended period without a phone. This isn't the day in age where one can go for weeks without a phone. Go with a company which provides warranty support and customer service.

    Sprint service? Stay Away!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased this phone based on the claims of both Motorola and Sprint that the phone was fully supported and compatible with Sprint service. What a complete joke! My Samsung Galaxy S4 was constantly too hot to hold and had camera malfunctions, so I decided to buy this to replace it (and not be on the hook to Sprint for an early upgrade fee/cost). I have now had to switch back to the GS4. Sprint was completely unable (and seemingly unwilling) to assist me when the phone constantly threw error messages with regards to using the Sprint network. The phone was unable to get on the internet, could not text (either send or receive) and within the last few days has decided that it can't make phone calls ("mobile network unavailable for phone calls"). This is the MOST INFURIATING phone experience I have ever had; I had no problem with getting my son's Moto X Pure onto my Sprint service, but this is getting to be intolerable and maddening. I now have a brand new phone that can not get on the internet (unless I'm on my home Wifi), can not text, and can not make or receive calls. Is that even considered a phone, then? I can not recommend strongly enough AGAINST this phone.
