Nice 4K video, still photos from 16 MP main camera

I purchased the Moto G Fast (2020 edition) in October 2020.
Pros:
- The 4K video footage quality from the main (16 MP) rear camera really impressed me, especially for what is considered a budget phone. Camera quality has come a long way since the early days!
- It has a 4000 mAh battery and battery life has been very good for me.
- With its octa-core, 4 x 2.0 GHz and 4 x 1.8 GHz processors and 3 GB of RAM, the phone has adequate speed and power, especially given its budget-phone price. It is much better than my three-year old phone.
- The screen resolution is 1560 x 720 pixels (268ppi, IPS), which is not as high as higher-end phones, but it looks fine to me.
- The large screen size (6.4 inches) makes it easier to read text and watch videos compared to many older phones with smaller screens.
- The white back gives it a distinctive look.
- I like the Moto hand-gesture shortcuts, such as a double chop to turn on the light, or the twist back and forth to launch the camera. Both work even with phone locked in stand-by mode.
- Calls sound fine.
Cons:
- The white back, silver sides and screen itself are very slippery. You will have to be extra careful, if you don't keep it in a case, to avoid it slipping out of your hand. I even set the phone on a hard, flat tabletop and the phone literally started sliding from what must have been a thin layer of air molecules between the phone and the table -- it would have fallen off the table if I hadn't caught it! Beware.
- The larger size is nice for viewing text and videos, but it makes the phone less comfortable to hold for longer periods, compared to a smaller phone. It's also harder to fit in your pocket or a hip case. It's a trade-off.
- The quality of video footage from the 8 MP ultra-wide rear lens is very poor quality. It is full HD (1920x1080) but very muddy and not up to the quality of the full HD video from my old phone.
But the footage from the 16 MP main camera is good.
-It does not have face unlock nor NFC, but I don't use those anyway.
-You can see sample video footage and still photos that I took with the Moto G Fast phone on my Web site at
https://leemark.com/bulletin-board/moto-g-fast-sample-footage/ or on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yB6OyICo7-U.
If the links above don't show up, you can find it by going to Leemark dot com and looking for "Tech review: Moto G Fast (2020) – Sample video & still footage" under Bulletin Board section.
Hope this helps.

This is a great phone. For the price, it is definitely a five star device. This is the third Motorola phone that I have had in the last 6 years. They hold up great and last very long, so I continue to buy them. this phone is true to its name period it is definitely fast. I can have or 10 or 11 apps open at the same time and switch between them all and it is still faster than my previous phone. I can also have more than 15 or 20 different web pages open at the same time and zoom between all of them. It also have 4 awesome cameras (3 on the back and 1 on the front) that take stellar photos and has great definition. So I definitely recommend this device. And it's priced GREAT. For the money, you will not find a better phone. I give it a 6 out of 5!

I got this for for mainly entertainment purposes. I have several demanding games, and several non demanding games plus 'pluto tv' and other entertainment apps. So far, I had one stalling, and a little lag (completely understandable!)! I love it! Is really fast for how much I have on it! I was sad however that I could not get a case or tempered glass for it in-store! But I did find a wonderful one on eBay! 10/10 would recommend.

So far, everything is good. I am still learning how to use this product, but it has performed just the way that I have wanted it to. I look forward to exploring exactly what the capabilities are, and how well it holds up to what I intend. I have a lot to learn.

This phone is taller than any of the phones I've used in the past. I love that Motorola continues to churn out phones in the $100 - $200 range that perform very well. I have owned the Moto X4 and the Moto Z3 Play and have enjoyed all these phones. Batter life on Moto G fast is amazing. This Motorola moto g fast smartphone features a 6.4-inch HD+ Max Vision display for crisp visuals. It features a 4000 mAh rechargeable battery. Even with intense use I get one and a half days to two days. Good camera and good performance. If your budget has some flexibility, spend a tiny bit extra and get the g power, it has an extra gig of ram, better screen and twice the internal storage. Both are excellent on battery life.

I needed a phone quick, since my newly purchased Motorola Edge 5G's display had the cursed Green tint issue. Thought I'd give Motorola another chance since they excel in the budget dept.
Pros -
I initially thought 3gb of RAM coupled with the Snapdragon 665 might mean that this phone would lag and be quite slow. Well, that's not been an issue at all. I don't game and I'm not a power user, but I can say with confidence this phone has enough power for the every day user. No software issues, no lag, no crashes, just smooth sailing. Stock Android, July security patch, Android 10, dark mode.
The battery is simply fantastic. Easily gets me two days.
The cameras are good, not great. I didn't expect it to best the flagships of the world, but I was surprised...Better than I thought they'd be. I installed the Google camera (gcam) and it's way better!
This phone supports WiFi calling and VoLTE. I use TMobile. No trouble getting LTE in my area, getting 70-100mbps with no hiccups.
The micro-SD slot is also welcome, as 32gb is not enough today. I'm out of space on the internal storage.
Rear fingerprint sensor is fast, accurate and works flawlessly. Appreciate the headphone jack too.
Cons -
The lacklustre LCD display that's not a full HD panel. It's dull with a low pixel count and colors are muted. Full HD with a higher pixel count would have been nice, but for a few bucks more the G Power has that. Also, Motorola calls this "rapid" charging. It's anything but. It's decent, but takes a few hours to fully charge the phone. Again, managing expectations this is fine by me.... But marketing this as rapid charging is misleading.
No face unlock either. Not a big deal, but it would've been nice to include as other phones in this range include it.
Overall this is a solid phone! It's pleasantly surprised me, and confirms Motorola consistently churns out good budget and mid-range phones. I'd recommend this to anyone on a tight budget or needing a second phone!

The Moto G Fast is a very snappy, attractive modern phone. At $150 it is loaded with features and a surprisingly long lasting battery. I can use it heavily and only need to charge it every 2 days.
It has a modern 625 Snapdragon processor and 32GB built in with 16MB/8MB selfie cameras. I like the fact that the camera is in the corner and not a huge notch on its 6.5 inch screen. And it has a very responsive fingerprint scanner. And a headphone jack mounted sensibly on top! (Not all of us like having to worry about charging bluetooth buds. But hey, if you like them, it will take them too!)
The fact that it allows you to add up to 512GB of SD memory as internal memory capable of holding apps not just files (I added top of the line 256GB for about $30) is fantastic.
The screen is crisp with good color and the camera is responsive and takes very good pictures.
I like fact that the Android 10 operating system is pretty much stock without a bunch of pre-installed bloatware and overlays. The software that is installed is good and works well. I can add any apps I easily want via Google Play. The phone is also slated to receive the update to Android 11.
The build feels very solid. I used it a few days case-less until my ordered case arrived. I do recommend a case as it is a bit slippery.
The only negative is the battery is non removable, but that is the nature of almost all current smartphones.
Did I mention it has a headphone jack?
I wouldn't hesitate to purchase it or it's related reasonably priced Moto G cameras again.

This phone exceeded all my expectations - I have trouble finding words
to express my satisfaction with it! The reviews I'd read said it had
poor audio quality, image quality, & the screen could cause eye
strain, but I've found the very opposite on all points:
• the audio quality is excellent: I have no trouble understanding
spoken words, & the volume can be controlled very well, from quiet
to loud enough to be heard & understood in noisy environments
without distortion or clipping.
• The camera is outstanding beyond description: I can photograph an
entire page of a broadsheet newspaper & resolve even the dots in
images printed on the page. Colour balance & saturation in images
of indoor & outdoor scenes is excellent, for my purposes, at least.
The resolution, clarity, & sharpness of the images still leaves me
breathless.
• I find the display clarity & resolution to be outstanding: even
the smallest fonts are clearly legible.
• The phone responds quickly with the apps I am using & loads web
pages astonishingly rapidly (via WiFi). The RAM is more than
adequate for my current use. Of the 32GB internal storage on my
device about half is consumed by the operating system & the default
apps, but I have installed an SD card to hold files (but see note in
next paragraph).
My only peeves are:
(i) VERY touchy screen: at times, just gripping the phone too
tightly will cause some action that I do not expect, & at times, I
do not think I've touched the screen at all, just passed my finger
over it, & the phone responds as if a button had been pressed.
(ii) FILE SHARING: I would like to be able to select multiple files
& share them with another device using BlueTooth (which I could do
on my old Alcatel phone), but with this phone, only one file at a
time can be shared via Bluetooth: if multiple files are selected,
the phone automatically wants to share them over WiFi, & there are
no instructions on how to get the recipient device (a computer) to
accept them - I think some sort of app is required, but no
information is provided about this. I would prefer to be given the
option of sharing via Bluetooth or WiFi even when multiple files are
selected.
(iii) POOR DOCUMENTATION of the features of the operating system &
apps - this may be more a problem with the operating system (Android
10) than the phone itself. The settings menu is absolutely
daunting, with pages of options, the effects of many of which are
not clearly described, & even after over a month of use I still have
to spend a long time searching for settings that I need to change.
(iv) SD CARD: Some apps (such as a text editor/note-taking app)
cannot write to the SD card: files have to be written to internal
storage & then manually transferred to the SD card. I THINK this is
because the internal storage uses a LINUX filing system of some sort
(ext4?) whilst the SD card probably uses a FAT32 filing system that
does not support LINUX permissions, so this is problem is probably
not specific to this phone ... but some apps - like the Camera - can
write to the SD card. It would be helpful if there were more
information about whether the SD card can be re-formatted to allow
other apps to write to it.
Overall, however, I am truly enchanted with this phone & find it
absolutely indispensible. I still cannot believe such a capable
device is as inexpensive as it is, & I would unhesitatingly give it my
highest recommendations - though I should qualify this by noting that
I do not use the phone for playing games or applications that consume
large quantities of storage & memory, & do not use the camera to take
photos or videos for professional purposes.

Went from my Moto G5+ to this G Fast, so I was already familiar with some of the things Motos can do (Gestures and such). This phone is faster, and the battery life is very good.
I moved the SIM from my G5+ to this phone (Verizon). The phone then offered to move everything from my old phone, which it did a very good job of (Bluetooth). All my texts, my contacts, calendar appts. I have a list app with shopping lists and such, all of that came over too. If you choose not to move all apps, you can come back with some third-party apps and move some things over, and leave others.
This phone is larger for sure, but it's got a nice screen on it, and this time I turned on the standard navigation buttons at the bottom (Home, Back, Running Apps). on the G5 I got very good at navigating with motions and gestures, but it wasn't working as well for me on this model. But with so much screen room, well I'm happier with the buttons, I'll leave it at that. You can still navigate "buttonless" if you like.
Android or Motorola needs to pick up their game on the phone itself. My work phone is an iPhone SE 2020 and it can place calls quicker, it also disconnects calls and is ready to dial again much quicker than either of my Motos. I'm betting that's a droid thing, don't know.
For the money, very satisfied with this phone.

I’ve always been an Apple Mac user, but tired of the high prices. This phone has everything I need.
Salesperson at this store was NOT friendly at all. She was actually rude, telling me that I lost all my contacts, photos, emails. When in fact, I found them all when I took the phone home. Everything was there, but she couldn’t, or wouldn’t find them. Very disappointed in the service from that employee.

I know a lot of people have to have the latest and greatest in phone tech. I want a phone that provides long battery life (this one's amazing for a smartphone). I want a phone with a clear screen, but it doesn't have to be UHD or 8K. It's a phone, not a 65" OLED TV. The images are clear and easy to read and all the games I've played are crisp enough not to notice the lower rez. Heavy gamers may want to walk away on the other hand. It is relatively lightweight for a phone with the size screen and surprisingly thin for the size battery it contains. The fact that Motorola only modestly modified the Android 10 OS makes it less glitchy than many other Androids that vendor phones. On the downsize it does only have 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. But with that said, this phone is a great buy for the mid-level user.
