Loved it! Bought it for my mom in white. Used it. Loved it so much, got a black one for my dad. White looked amazing. Apps were performing very well. No space issues like I have in my iPhone. Then came the black. Looked even awesomer! (If that is even a word). Doesn't get stuck. Can use in india with any gsm sim. Just perfect. I envy how reliable it is. I love my iPhone but I still can't stop thinking about g4 play. I recommended it to one of my friends. Never thought android phones can be this Sophisticated.

Switched from Samsung Galaxy phone to this model because of the price difference. It was hard to leave Samsung, but you get WAY more for your money and an excellent phone, too. My only ding on this phone is it is supposed to have Gorilla glass but within the first two weeks the glass got scratched somehow and I have no idea how. The battery lasts a long time, hours and hours. The camera is good. Also, I love that this phone is unlocked and, therefore, I have the ability to ditch my cell phone carrier whenever I want to look for a better price and can just use this phone with another carrier.

    1. It's carrier unlocked! Works with any major US carrier (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint) with 4G speeds (and slower speeds as well). Will probably work with any carrier that allows you to BYOD (bring your own device). And will probably work on networks around the world with the correct SIM card and plan, but may not work on all frequency bands in some non-US locations. 2. Good battery life, probably very good. I use this as my 2nd phone but other reviewers give it good marks as well. 3. No non-Google bloatware (unless you buy the version with lockscreen ads - this one here is NOT that!) 4. Sounds good and works very well. Latest version of Android on this phone is Marshmallow (6.0.x). Having worked with the very latest version (Nougat) on another phone, and then downgrading it to Marshmallow, I recommend sticking with Marshmallow for the time being. 5. Easy to get cases and screen protectors for this, and quite inexpensively. 6. 16GB memory is a bit lean, but I recommend installing a 32GB or 64GB Class-10 name-brand Micro SD card (yes it takes one!) and allowing the phone to "adopt" it. Read more about this online. 7. Easily removable / interchangeable battery. 8. According to reviewers, camera is decent at best; that said, it's certainly not "bad." I have installed "Camera MX" from Appic Labs - available in the Play Store. To me it's an improvement over the default camera app. 9. While it's not the fastest phone, performance-wise, it performs well, especially for the price. Note: This phone takes a Micro SIM - many modern phones take a Nano SIM, which means you will need to change SIM cards if coming from an iPhone 5, 6, 7 (for example) or getting a SIM adapter (be careful using these, but they can be made to work well, and once installed and working, you are fine).

We purchased the Motog 4 play basically because we were looking for a smart phone at a reasonable price. This phone received many good reviews, so we went for it. We have had it two days and it is definitely a learning curve. Basically I think we are able to do everything that we want to for the moment, with the exception of sending and receiving picture messages. I know the apn settings, but the phone would not allow me to access this area so that I could enter them. I cannot find out how to do this either on the user guide or just googling my question. Otherwise, the phone is very nice. Attractive, responsive. Sharp, crisp words/images; lots of app choices. The camera works well and the images are beautiful, very clear, great color. Battery life is very good. I wish you could turn the sound up a little higher though. We have it up all the way and text message notification sound is still hard to hear. When we get the picture messaging issue fixed, I would definitely give this phone 5 stars

I was looking for a mid-range android phone and found this Moto g 4 play. I would have purchased the larger version, Moto g4 plus, but I like the smaller- sized g 4 play. This phone has everything I need : good camera, easy to operate, unlocked for use in other countries, a removable battery, latest android version and large capacity SD card. For me, it's perfect

This phone has a good camera and led light.Tons of apps to choose from the app store (Google Play). Easy to use Android system. Takes approximately 4 hours to fully charge the phone from 5% to 100%. No bloatware on this device. Easy to manage storage space and can use a micro sd card to expand storage.

Overall this is a good phone with a lot going for it. The screen is nice, and all-carriers compatibility is awesome. Battery lasts all day, and someday down the road you can actually change the battery (novel). MicroSD card slot means you won't run out of storage quickly. We use ours with Ting (Sprint MVNO). That said, there are a few things that need help: 1. The GPS is poor in accuracy. I can't believe this issue has not been worked out. We have 3 G4 Play's, all suffer from this. Apparently some have this issue and some don't; not sure how we got so lucky. If you highly depend on GPS, DO NOT buy this phone. It's apparently an RMA-able issue, if you're willing to give up your phone for a while and wait for another, that might just have the same problem. 2. Bluetooth randomly shuts off. Frustrating for use with Fitbits. 3. The relatively pure Android experience is fine, but you'd think that frequent updates would be part of the deal. Not so much.

This phone is a great deal for a smartphone under the $200 price point. The phone provides full Google features and app access. Screen visibility struggles in the sun. The phone lacks a gyroscope which makes Google Maps a struggle to use. Speed and application stability is great. Phone takes a micro-sim instead of the nano. Charging cable is attached to power cube.

You would probably be better served with a review from someone else as this is my 1st step away from a flip phone. I can tell you its a tough phone ( dropped 20' from my tree stand 1st day i had it ) The camera is as clear as my wifes I-phone .Same size as my brothers Samsung Galaxy at a little over half the price. Its never dropped a call yet.The vibrate mode could stand to be made stronger.Overall tho,I will save you some time; YOU WON'T FIND A MORE CAPABLE PHONE FOR THE MONEY.

I had a major brand name before that the screen shattered but wasn't happy with features like speaker in rear of phone so I tried for a Motorola and I am very pleasantly surprised for the lower end priced of the Moto G series to be relieved by it being a decent phone that's made me happy over the old brand except for a couple of items. As this is an unlocked phone it doesn't have a stand alone E-mail client so what it has a person do is go through Gmail (although I assume other clients will work for most major email services). I don't like depending on Gmail for my private emails from my ISP but I don't know any other dependable and trustful work around... I mention this as I had trouble for a couple of days to get my web based ISP E-mail to sync with Gmail but finally got it to work but was not happy in the beginning or a week that just went by where it stopped syncing again so I was not able to use the phone to send or receive my private non-gmail messages although I think the problem was with my ISP not having or updating their certificate during that period but no one, not the ISP, Motorola, Best Buy had a clue what the cause was or what I could do to fix it. As far as I can tell there is no way to set a different ring tone for groups of people or differently for each individual person. At the time of this writing the Moto G4's including this Play is slated to get Android Nougat but as it's unlocked the timeline still seems to be TBD. Also I like to hold the phone while speaking in between my left shoulder and ear but the sensor is on the left side of the phone so if I don't keep an extremely tight grasp with my shoulder the a little light hits the sensor and the screen comes back on and sometimes my cheek hits the numbers which people on the other end don't appreciate this. The work around is to hit the power button so that the screen can't turn on unless your a person that needs to consistently see how long your phone call is. Also I don't know if it's because the Play is cheaper but I don't see items such as chop twice for camera or twist twice for flashlight under the Moto Settings part of the phone. The Play doesn't come with Infrared so I can't use the phone to control our streaming box that's hooked to the t.v. Battery is 2800mah which so far after three weeks lasts me a day with phone calls, a few apps running and a game here and there plus a number of articles read each day and such. Overall I'm pleased with this phone. For me it's speed, level of use (intuitiveness), battery and other features of the phone have been fun and handy so far. However I had known that paying a bit more would get me (IR?) and a slightly larger battery I would have probably paid the extra ~$40 for the mid priced one as I don't need the most expensive Moto G4 just for the fingerprint scanner. I don't know if anyone else would have this issue but when I need to highlight something it's hard for me at times to get right on the little blue circle that pops up to move. I know I've mostly mentioned things I don't like or have issue with but being able to switch between apps back and forth while retaining what I'm doing is wonderful. I can type normally or swype or use voice for text or a combination. It has Daydreaming and has the ability to show quick pop ups of notifications so you can catch a glimpse of what the notification is about while your doing whatever without having to stop and then open the notification if you don't want to. As I said so far I am pleased with this phone unless I ever get introduced/experience a better phone.

I broke my samsung galaxy s7 edge. So I needed a simple, inexpensive phone to hold me over until the next galaxy got released. The phone is a great value. Battery life lasts a full day. Only problem I had was the GPS location was always off.

This unlocked phone replaced a Samsung Galaxy S6 that I had many, many problems with. I decide to pay off my AT&T Next Plan and buy this phone outright. It is simple, yet powerful enough to do everything I need. The Galaxy S6 had too many extras that I never used. This phone has it where it counts with a removable battery, expandable memory, and just enough of the right features. It is equal to or better with speed and performance. The camera and screen are lower resolutions, but I really don't notice a difference. The battery charges slower, but lasts much longer. I recommend it for anyone who is ready to keep a smartphone but lose all of the unneeded extras.

I was looking to replace an older smartphone with one that was not bloated with carrier-embedded apps. After checking around for different "unlocked" devices I decided to pick up one of these from my local Best Buy. The screen is very sharp and clear and way better than the older phone. It also has a light sensor so the screen will automatically brighten and dim with the level of light in the current room (no more dimming or brightening the screen manually). The OS is the latest Android 6 "Marshmallow" and seems about as close to stock as you can get. So far I have been able to load up all the previous apps I wanted and am not stuck with any that I don't need and can not be removed. The RAM memory is 2 GB and for what I have been running is plenty for all of my apps. My old phone only had 1 GB and locked system apps that kept that down to less than 500 MB so this phone feels like it has more than enough. The internal storage space is 16 GB and the Android system uses about 5 GB of that leaving the user around 11 GB of space for your apps. There is also a microSD card socket for you to expand the storage. With the new Android OS you can install a high speed rated microSD and incorporate that into internal storage. Currently I still have the microSD as external storage and use it for pictures/MP3/etc., but might change this depending on how quickly the remaining 16 GB internal fills up. So far I have had no issues with voice calls or connections to either cell towers or local wifi for data usage. Overall you can't beat the price for quality on this phone.
