I would give this a 5star rating but the battery strength shows signs of running down a little faster now than it did the first two days. Note that the phone is about 10days old as I write this review so I was still expecting it to be at top functioning level. Don't get me wrong the battery still lasts me about 22-26hrs depending on usage, but the first three days it lasted about 30-33hrs.
Camara is amazing I like the 360° option, size is great for those who like big screens. Cool features.

Too early to tell with confidence, but overall it is a great camera with a good phone. Mine came with Moto 360 which I have not tried enough to judge! Can't beat the Sprint offer through bestbuy.

This is definitely a most bang for your buck phone. I would highly recommend this phone if you want a great phone with great camera, battery life great performance. What I noticed with other phones is that the RAM is rather large but it burns through the battery quicker unless you need that rather large RAM for work entertainment etc. you won't be missing much with the Motorola Z4. It isn't slow by any stretch. Not to mention the Moto features with the flashlight, quick silent etc.

It's not an iPhone nor a Samsung. Nor was it intended to be either one!!
I didn't want all the pre-loaded bloat that Verizon crams into a phone so I went with an unlocked Moto. I've been using Moto for a quite bit now. This is like my fourth or so Moto. Each one has been exactly what I wanted in a phone/device. These Z4 models have an awesome battery, well performing Android system, and the interface is nice. Loads apps, does what I want!!!
My pics ALWAYS get great comments when I post them or send them to friends. Newer pic features are there but I haven't gotten that deep just yet.
One "bad" point: The unlocked Moto will not have a rear cover to protect the connection points for the Moto Mods....Boooooo! It does give you their 360* camera which I haven't tried out. Get a cheap cover or buy the additional battery pack for more life.
All in all I'm not ready to drop $1k+ on a iPhone with ZERO 5g support...Nor was I ready to spring on the Samsung with 5g....5g isn't in my area!!! So this phone is a cheaper segway to use until the 5g networks are out in mass covering the areas where I need coverage.
SAVE some money, get a great phone, and WAIT till 5G is everywhere!!

My original Z Play finally started showing its age, so I purchased the Z4 to replace it.
Pros: Lots of storage, microSD slot, headphone jack, big crisp screen, great performance, great battery life. This phone does everything I need it to do without breaking the bank.
Cons: I never really bought into the Moto Mods and this comes with a 360 camera I used once. Also has a "notch" for the front camera and beveled corners for the display. This makes some full-screen apps look weird around the edges.
If you're looking for a new phone and don't like/want the big-budget phones, this is the one to get. Throw a nice TPU case on it and you'll be quite satisfied!

Worthy upgrade from my Old Faithful Moto Z Play!

I've had an old trusty Moto Z Play that is a few years old now. I decided to upgrade, so purchased this and gave my old phone to my college-bound daughter. I've had this for a few weeks now, so I cannot speak to the longevity of it like my old Moto Z Play that has lasted an amazingly long amount of time, given all I put it through.
The first Moto Z Play I purchased was three years ago. That one was working great, then I dropped it somewhere in a parking lot during soccer practice, and cars ran over it -- found it several hours later using my Android locator, and the phone STILL WORKED, even though the screen was shattered to smithereens!!! (Under warranty, got a replacement phone).
The replacement Moto Z Play was just as good -- dropped this one at least 1,000 times, never shattered a screen one time (had an Incipio protector on the backside). I even dropped it into a toilet, totally submerged for at least 30 seconds. Dried it off and it worked like a champ 10 minutes later. Dropped it down a small cliff while hiking, too -- somehow, it survived. Even after 2+ years, I still get a day's worth from the battery!
So yeah, I have developed an affinity for my little outdated, rugged 2+ year old Moto Z Play. So much so that I didn't want to shop for another.... It's like having a great used car that you actually name because by 300,000 miles, it's a part of the family! ha!
Can't speak for the ruggedness of this new one since it has yet to be ran over by a car... but I do like the speed, camera, and memory upgrade already. My old phone was 32g, this is 128g. I take a lot of pictures and run a lot of apps, work from my phone (Skype, Salesforce) etc. so far, so great! I received the Moto Mod camera with it, but haven't really had a chance to play around with it yet. I'm not constantly on my phone (I have a life! LOL) so I have been able to get 1.5-2 days usage out of it before having to recharge. Sweet!

This is replacing a six year old Galaxy Note 3 that's getting harder and harder to get good batteries for. So far so good with the Z4
Pros
-Battery legit lasts 2 days off real world usage and charges in like 30 minutes
-Screen is good, quality Samsung display
-mod upgradeable, batteries, real cameras, 5g
- Not a thousand dollars
-headphone jack, no insecure garbage Bluetooth only nonsense
-nearly stock Android
Cons
-Fingerprint sensor is junk, but you should use pins anyway since police can force a Fingerprint unlock but cannot force a password or pin divulge
-dimensions are a little weird, easy to slip fingers on the sides interface with apps
-I hate notches
-Motorola is terrible about software patching, but it ships with Pie so hopefully it'll have a decent lifecycle
Overall I'm happy. A Note9 is shinier, but I will never pay a grand for a phone that I use my headphones on

Everyone keeps calling this a mid-range smartphone, but it feels pretty premium to me. I love the fact that it has 128GB of memory, it has room for all my apps and then some. It's an absolute performance beast, I can go practically a whole day without having to charge it.

This is a really good budget phone. In a world of $1000+ phones, this gives you a really good screen, a powerful camera, and snappy performance for half the price.
It comes with the Moto 360 camera Moto Mod, but I honestly would never see myself using this function.
So far, the only qualm I have with the phone is the fingerprint reader. The reader on the Z3 Play was on the side and never failed me. This one is built into the screen and almost never gets it on the first try. I ended up just turning it off, which is annoying.
If you’re in the market for a new phone and don’t want to sell your first born to afford it, check this one out.

Great phone. Battery last 2 days or longer with light use. Medium use get about a full day easily. Heavy use about 12 hours. The best way to get a longer batter life is charge it to 100% before you go to bed and unplug it. As it sits over night it seems to learn it's hardly being used and creates a better battery drain strategy. Kind of like cars that get better mileage if you don't hammer on the gas a lot. The phone is quick and lots of space 128gb plus you can add a sd card. Glad they kept the mod setup for existing mods as I have a couple. I've had 2 previous versions and the screen is nearly indestructible. My only issue is the in screen biometrics is just not as good or as quick as the dedicated finger scanner on the z force. I would gladly give up some space at the bottom to have that back. I used it to unlock and lock my phone which was a nice feature. Now have press the button on the side or wait for time out.

Good Phone, Great Price.
No much more to say than what everyone else is saying, and you can read the specs, so I'll sum it up with lots of words :)
This is a great mid range phone ( good, compared to top of the line phones). I used Motorola since the first Gen Moto X. This is my second Moto Z (the first was a Z2. I really liked that phone). I fact My whole family of five now uses a Moto Z in one of the versions. and we have all been happy with them.
Everything about this phone is good, not excellent, but a solid 4 star good.
First the Cons:
1) Like everyone else is saying the finger print reader needs improvement. some times it works on first try, other times I need to enter my PIN because it didn't work.
2) Because of the slightly tapered sides, the moto mods do stick out around the edge, ever so slightly, enough that you can feel it. If you are one to be bothered by something like this, you may want to check one out at a store first.
The best part about this phone:
1) Price (although you can get the Z3 cheaper (and that is a good phone)
2) Moto actions - twist for camera, chop for flashlight, etc
3) Almost clean stock Android with little bloatware
Now the good:
It takes good pictures, the 360 camera mod that came free is cool.
The speed is good, no lag that I can tell, I don't play games on it, but suspect you won't have problems with most games. no video lag.
Battery life is real good (better than most).
Screen is good, clear, good color and resolution, not great in direct sunlight.
Phone Calls are good, no problem hearing people, or people hearing me.
Speaker is good, it is what you would expect from a small speaker.
Feels Solid, Good weight, not heavy, its thin enough that you can add a cover and it is still easy to hold.
Summary:
IMHO: This is one of the best phones in its price range (obviously, I bought one). If you can overlook the few minor flaws, you will not be disapointed.

This phone is fine...I've had the z2, z3 play, and now this and they're all basically the same phone with some minor revisions through the years (plus this supports Android Q).
Main reason I went with the Z4 is because it's unlocked and I wanted to be able to root/unlock bootloader, which was very simple with this phone. Also it supports wireless charging (with moto mod) which is very important to me, not sure why so many phones are abandoning this.
Pros: It works, it's unlocked and rootable, moto mods if you're into that. 3.5mm headphone jack built in. 128GB storage + SD card expandable. The face unlock and fingerprint seem to work well and give fewer misses than my z3 play.
Cons: It's just fine...nothing special, definitely over-priced for what you're getting spec-wise compared to other available phones; but, not many phones the above Pros that I listed. Also the moto mods don't fit perfectly leaving a weird edge around the back of the phone, but you get used to it.

The phone is cheaper than most ($500) but has very good quality. It has a battery capable of running the phone with slightly more than regular use for two days. You can charge your phone quickly with the included turbocharger and not worry about the phone dying. The phone has a great camera, and with all the different mods you can get, the phone just gets better. Space is more than enough and you can buy an sd card to add more. The phone has quick response time, has fast boot-up times and can be dropped and nothing will happen to it. It's a solid phone with a lot of longevity and also has a headphone jack.

My Moto z Droid force stopped charging for the third time (replaced twice) and had to get a new phone before vacation. Opted to go with the Moto z4 since I already have the projector Moto mod (which I love!) and it is transferable. The major change from the moto z Droid force and motoz4 is the larger screen size and placement of the fingerprint scanner. The Moto z4 fingerprint scanner is on the bottom of the screen rather than a separate button off the screen. The new fingerprint scanner worked ok until I put a screen protector on and now it doesn't work as consistently anymore. The camera is ok. It still seems to not work in low light as well as it claims. It is also hard to hear when on phone calls unless it's on speaker phone. I purchased from Best buy on sale which included the 360° Moto camera. The camera works with photo and video and is a fun little attachment. It does delay the camera functions a bit and it is a tall attachment on top of the phone. I also still can't find a cover that will go over the Moto mods which is frustrating. Even a case made for the moto mod attachments would be great but no luck in finding it. I do like that they brought back the USB to power charger and the headphone jack. Overall good buy. I will always prefer Android over apple. While its not the best or most popular phone out there, it does have a lot of cool features that no other phone has and at a third of the price! Would definitely recommend and buy again over other brands.

Big fan of the Z series and I really like this phone. Owned a Moto Z play, and a Z3 play. Great screen size. Battery life is solid. Performance is zippy with no signs of lag. I love the design. Especially the matted coating on the back of the phone. the speaker on the top of the phone is really loud obviously with very little bass. Calls come through clear. The only complaints are the fit of the mods and the new onscreen finger print sensor. All mods still fit the Z4, but leave a small gap that you can feel. Not a big deal if you use a bumper case as that hides the gap completely. The fingerprint sensor is more annoying as it is not always responsive and requires a second attempt. The good news is that it actually does get better with time. Another helpful tip is to submit more than one fingerprint profile per finger.
All in all, I think the Z4 is a worthy addition to the series.

This is a mid tier phone, it doesn't come close to competing with phones such as a Galaxy S20 or iPhone11, but in terms of bang for the buck, it is hard to beat. The screen is clear, the camera is decent, the battery is a beast, and it feels solid in the hand. Using Moto Mods is painfully easy, just slap it on and it just works.
If you need the latest and greatest, this phone isn't for you, but for the rest of us, it is great.

Coming from the fact that I use Microsoft products exclusively, stepping into an android based phone like the Motorola Z4 is more of a culture shock than a learning curve. Apps as opposed to programs is just a smaller form but the same thing, nothing new there. Motomods-wow! Snap on accessories to fill hardware needs instead of fumbling with cords, love the concept, we'll see on the execution, but there is a mod for budding young developers that want to create custom controller add-ons. I'd highly recommend paying the extra for the unlocked version as you never know when pricing is going to change or limitations will appear that you want to walk away from. Even with no service from any carrier the unit is capable of connecting through Wi-fi and Bluetooth for e-mail and other communication tasks with the right apps. Not a bad deal and good right now if you don't need the bleeding "edge" $1500 price tag equipment. The screen is visible in bright direct sunlight, the fingerprint reader is sketchy through a screen protector but just do multiple recordings of the dominant finger you'll use and it works OK. If you mess it up too many times it will ask for your pin anyways. It does work on face recognition but I haven't set it up quite yet to let you know how that works out. Overall worth the selling price. Oh, and the 360 motomod does more than 360 shots. It can be setup for panoramic shots through the wide angle setting as well. Just something else to play with. Hope this helps.

I love almost everything about this phone, I had a lot of differant Android cell phones including the Note and Galaxy phones, and lots more and now I have had the Z2, Z3 and Now the Z4 and this is my favorite one. I is a very fast phone, I love the camera, I also have the extra battery, extra camera, JBL speaker and 360 camera and I really like being able to change to any of them.
The only thing that lowers the overall rating is the fingerprint scanner is pretty bad, it takes 3 times average and sometimes will not work at all.
