I originally purchased the GS60 Ghost-Pro w/ Skylake, GTX 970m etc ... great thin laptop, premium quality etc... i returned it because it simply did not performed. The battery-life was pitiful (1 1/2 hrs) and the screen had a couple of bleeding spots, so in reality you would have a slim laptop + the weight of carrying the AC with it all the time if you planned to actually work). That is not acceptable for a 1800 laptop in my book.
I decided to give MSI another shot, after previously being the proud owner of a lovely GT60 (Dominator), so I changed the GS60 for a Skylake GTX 970m GE62 Apache Pro 001.
This machine is EXACTLY what a lpatop should be. The price is just excellent, the components are top-notch and the way the perform are beyond expectations.
The steel series keyboard is unique, it feel SO high quality it hurts... I am a programmer so this feature is a deal-breaker for me if its lacking from the product. Don't get me started on the colors and the backlit, that is just out of this world amazing. The screen can be configured based on preference with the highest granularity. Track pad is simply awesome, I LOVE the fact the buttons are not annoyingly integrated as they were on the GS60. The machine is simple, 3 buttons and all are purposeful, no noise or useless buttons in the keyboard and surrounds.
Size-wise, this machine hits the spot on the bulls-eye, it is not thick, nor slim to the point of being flimsy, as the GS60 felt... It is robust and very well built. Regarding ports, one BIG plus is that bsides of USB 3 and USB type C (newest) it does count with a legacy USB 2.0 for external hard drives etc which are not yet at par with 3.x standards ... I had the TERRIBLE experience with the GS60 (the new one, yeah) that if I plugged a wireless mouse AND an external hard drive, the drivers would make the ports to act up while using windows ... I couldn't believe it. This does not happen with the GE62, everything works as it should, not to mention the CD drive.
I am not going to talk about performance for this is widely covered on youtube etc... i7 6700HQ is really nice and the GTX 970M is a little monster on its own. Both work REALLY good together... I play Battlefield 4 at constant 60 FPS with high/ultra settings without breaking a sweat. The machine does not heat up, temperatures stay below a 70/71 Celsius upper boundary which is more than acceptable, as opposed to the 80+ the GS60 was going to.
Cons
Regarding software, this machine comes pre-loaded with a couple of MSI/Third party provided programs which enhance/enable certain functionalities. One of those, is Nahimic - for audio enhancement, not drivers - It does not work properly. It conflict with something called DirectX11 which might block or kill performance in certain applications (such Unity3D editor and games which need of said API (all of them :P )). I disabled it from the get-go. The other "software related" thing, is drivers. DO NOT get into device manager and update drivers (recommended by windows, for example Realtek - for audio - ). This had - i learnt from experience - terrible impact in gaming and graphic applications (yes, audio on graphics, weird but true).I noticed it that after updating the Realtek driver, Battlefield frames went form 60 constant to 40-50s ... incredible... I was going crazy until I recalled I did this update and the roll it back.
One thing that I do not like, but I can certainly understand why it happens is that on the left pal rest side, it gets almost uncomfortably hot, due to the mechanical drive... nothing that a 500GB SSD cannot fix though :P Great investment to combo up with the 120 GB that came witht he machine for the OS.
Summary
I certainly highly recommend this product for work and gaming... I mostly use this machine 60 / 40 each, and it performs really well on every level. You will certainly enjoy it!

The only issue i have is that every now & then(and not very often at all)
is that the nvidia crashes(but does recover really fast). This laptop does all kinds of thing, msi has held up to their brand reputation. The nvidia crash issue seems to have subsided with the latest update for it. This laptop is really fast and for this price deffinately worth it. I play games ranging from point and click to things like cs: go and more demanding games, it keeps up with new releases, i wont put a replacement curve in perspective due to how fast technology improves but i dont expect to have to replace this computer due to common program progression for a long while

For the price, this is an excellent laptop. Enough power for gaming for sure. You're not going to be using it away from a power outlet for 8 hours or anything but if that's what you wanted you wouldn't be buying a gaming laptop.

The computer is great and the in store employees were very helpful, but I initially tried to purchase it online. That was a disaster as I was trying to use gift cards. The Best Buy employees I spoke to on the phone were very rude and gave a lot of misinformation.

I bought this computer for my high school age son who needed something powerful and reliable for programming, CAD work, and gaming. The Apache 001 is just what he needs. The capabilities are great, it feels solid, he loves the keyboard backlighting, and it is even reasonably light weight. He has not had a chance to really stress it yet, but he is looking forward to seeing what all he can do on it. BestBuy delivered the computer very quickly and it came well packaged.

Bad customer service. Problems with computer once I turned it on. I've had it three months. They told me to send it in and I Have to pay for shipping and be without my laptop for 30 days. I spent $1500 and they can't pay for shipping . Best Buy won't return it either.
