I was looking for a PC, a little new and faster than my 7 year old Windows Vista gaming PC from 2009. This PC I was planning to use for mostly multimedia content like video streaming, local video and some light gaming. I wanted something with a little edge but not overkill, that can hike up the price. With Windows 10 and my moderate usage I find that I use about 3 to 6 gig of ram from the total 16. My CPU usage can be 5% to 15% with light tasks and 30% to 60% with heavier multitasking. So far, with the Solid State Drive(SSD) my boot is much better than my old PC, about 5-7 sec. to login screen and another 5 to 10 sec. for the rest of the installed default start up programs to finish loading (still mostly uncluttered operating system). My recommendation on storage is to use the 1 TB hard drive for large files and multimedia content, as well as any large games. Save the SSD drive for more basic and frequently use programs like browsers and utility type software. The MSI utility preinstalled software can be pretty handy once you get used to it and familiar with its short cuts and hot key keystrokes (especially for gamers). The graphics are great, colored keyboard is cool, sound is pretty good and generally all around great PC, and most likely similar model MSI PC's. Other than learning the in's and out's of Windows 10 it's a laptop worth getting if it falls into your acceptable price range.

The computer is quite powerful compared to my out going HP, which was no slouch either. I was quite disheartened, though, after less than 3 months of use to have to call tech support because of a noisy main fan. They agreed there was an issue and asked me to ship it out, at my cost, as they only offered one way shipping free of charge. I'm not sure about most manufactures, but my long time experience with HP I never paid shipping for warranty work. I now wish I purchased another HP. If the fan failing after 3 months is a sign of more issues down the road warranty work is going to expensive paying for shipping each time. My other big gripe is horrendous battery life.

This is a great laptop. It has plenty of power, and a good design. The video card keeps having hiccups though. I've tried updating the driver, but it has not helped. I hope this is resolved with the next patch. And is not a faulty setup. If this issue gets fixed I would give it 5 stars

I use this laptop to game, render videos, edit photos etc. I need a lot of power for my every day activities as well as mobility. This laptop has the power to play the most recent GPU hungry games on high and ultra (depending on the game and optimization). It also is fast with rendering HD videos. I have not a problem with this machine hiccuping on any task so far. The backlit keyboard is a plus. Not only are the color LEDs customizable but you can add functions to every key on the keyboard. This laptop is not pre-loaded with a bunch of bloatware. It has the basic software you need to have everything function seamlessly. Overall this is a fantastic computer and well worth the price.

For a laptop, the GE72 Apache pro packs in a lot of power. I use it to play games like Overwatch, Skyrim, TF2, Tomb Raider, Just Cause, Space Engineers, etc. and have no problems. The keyboard isn't special (just colorful), and you'll need a mouse to play most any game, but I really do enjoy this laptop. The gtx 960 is great but if you can, go for the version with the gtx 970. The ssd works great but i found i had filled it with games almost immediately, I do love it for what it is though. With all this said I must mention, with a 17.3 inch screen its definitely not a small laptop by any means. A bit hard to carry around, especially if you're gaming at other places, but its definitely manageable.

As far as bang for your buck, this laptop is very hard to beat. After doing a significant amount of research, this was the laptop that I chose. I use it primarily for gaming, college coursework, and some image editing. So far, it's been fantastic. Having read a number of reviews, I knew going in that the laptop would run a bit hot to the touch when gaming for long periods. Overall this has been a very minor issue. The computer looks beautiful, boots quickly, and has genuinely exceeded my expectations in terms of how well it runs any game that I throw at it.

With the new solid state drive added to the hard drive disk, I noticed a faster startup then other laptops with only a hard disk drive. But with the windows operating system I would have expected it to be able to come up with a more clever way to bypass Windows slow sequential processing function.

This laptop is the best I've had, but then again, I haven't had that many. My general use for it is surfing, Netflix, YouTube, little games - not the serious video intensive ones, and some MS Office work. For those, this GE72 Apache Pro-029 is awesome! I still have not gotten used to the not so average placement of the Windows key and arrow keys as well as the function of the Home and End keys. There is so much real estate on this platform that it would've been nice if they laid out the keys a little more like a full size one. The Windows key being on the right side is not so bad, but the right arrow key being right under the 1 on the numeric pad is really a pain. The Home and End keys require holding down of the Fn(function) key. :( But those are little issues that will easily be addressed once I get an external keyboard, which I already had in mind anyway. My biggest disappointment with this laptop was when I realized that it did not meet the recommended 4GB of VRAM for a racing game called Forza Motorsport 6. This however is no fault of the product not the manufacturer. Not being any type of real gamer, I was not aware of how much video memory some of these games need. All in all though I am still quite pleased with this computer. It's more than enough beauty and power for my general needs.

No complaints at all. For my use, video editing is fast. For creating a 30 minute video it has cut the producing time almost in half. Compared to my 5 year old HP desktop.

I surely have considered about another laptop brand, yet I thought the big difference which not mentioned on the spec was the cooling system and the sound performance. I am a person who chasing for great sound and powerful performance, and I love it because this machine can furnish top gaming experience for users. Furthermore, the price is just sweet, the exclusive features of components are top-level. I definitely would recommend it to my friends. Other fancy features I love which are below: 1. Tactile and Backlit keyboard 2. Great look design and good texture 3. Wide screen with true color tech 4. Of course 1TB HDD and 128GB SSD

I purchased this machine way back in November of 2015 and from the get go I though that this machine was great and have had no issues with it. I also like the fact that this machine has a numeric key pad which my dell XPS machine that I purchased way back in 2004 did not come with. believe it or not that machine is still working. I also like the MSI is that it came with 16 gigs of ram which again my Dell only came with a lousy 2 gigs. When Windows 10 Pro stops working on it I will through a Linux distro on it.

*THE TWO STARS IS NOT FOR THE MACHINE. THE TWO STARS IS FOR MSI'S CUSTOMER SERVICE AND STANDARDS.* I purchased this laptop on early morning Friday 10-9-2015, the day it became available on the website. After weeks of investigating all of the different gaming laptops from various companies, ASUS, LENOVO, etc I decided upon the GE72 Apache Pro-029. This is the most expensive thing I've bought in my life thus far and I felt comfortable with the purchase as a gift for my boyfriend. I shipped it 2nd day air and it arrived on 10-14-2015 (this is another can of worms but unrelated to the review and not the biggest offense). The APACHE PRO-029 boasts pretty impressive specs for the price, a 6th gen I7 processor, a 128gb SSD and a lovely GEforce 960m and of course, the less geeky but thoroughly pleasing rGB SteelSeries keyboard. For the price of 1299.99 I failed to find anything that came close to this product in terms of the whole package from any other company. After I let my boyfriend unwrap it and touch the keyboard I immediately took the laptop to make sure it was registered properly, had BitDefender installed (It comes with NORTON out of the gate) and inspected it since I knew I'd be the one writing this review. All was well until I saw.... IT. A dead pixel. A DEAD PIXEL in my $1300 dollar baby. Now I KNOW that a dead pixel is not the biggest issue that I could've had to deal with. However, it is still a extremely huge letdown, I bought what I thought was the latest and greatest from a respectable, reputable company. Determined to get this sorted out so I COULD confidently say that all around MSI is RESPECTABLE AND REPUTABLE. I took a deep breath and I called customer service. This is where it gets bad. I am on the East Coast, MSI's US support is on the West. I called at 10 am EST and wasn't greeted by the representative on the other end (that's okay, bud. I'm sleepy too.) He asked my name and the product I was calling about. After not giving him the correct identifier for the product (Use the GE72 number if you purchase one and call about it) He seemed immediately put off. I proceeded to tell him about the issue, and said very specifically "I have had this computer less than 48 hours (in reality less than 36) and it has come to me with a defective screen." I was quickly informed by the representative (who never gave me a name, I understand why, he was more than a grump). That one pixel in this size display does not constitute a defective screen and nothing can be done through warranty about it. I figured that was going to be the pat answer since almost (if not all) companies have a minimum of 3 dead pixels in a screen. However, I haven't had this computer for 3 months and just now a pixel went. I just busted this bad boy out of the box and registered it (So I could call about it) and there's a dead pixel. I was then informed by the rep that it was INDUSTRY standard to not replace a LCD (this computer specifically has a eDP panel) until at least 3 pixels are dead on the screen. After asking him multiple times if there was anything else that could be done, anywhere else I could go he told me "no." and I hung up. Absolutely distraught over the fact that 1. My boyfriend has a less than perfect gift, 2. I spent what to me feels like a small fortune on a laptop that is less than perfect and 3. This customer service rep just made me feel awful because MSI won't deviate from INDUSTRY STANDARD instead of using MSI STANDARD. After a few minutes to cool off I decided it might be wise to call back and see if I could get a different rep, I figured it was early and despite the fact that he was working the morning shift that does not mean he's a morning person (respect, man. I get it.) UNFORTUNATELY. I called back, received the same gentleman and again was not greeted and instead was met with a very big attitude and a "You again" after giving him my name. He was very short with me this time "Look I told you, this is INDUSTRY STANDARD because LCD screens are too expensive to fix for one pixel; you can only go back to the vendor to exchange it." I tried to very calmly (despite being in almost angry tears from both the situation and the way I was being talked to) explain to the man that there was no more in stock and the likelihood of me being able to exchange it for a new one within the next few days (my boyfriend has no computer otherwise) was slim to none. After huffing some more he informed me his supervisor would be in at 9 PST (12 EST) and that I COULD call back but if I WERE to call back I will just receive the same answer from him and I shouldn't bother because it'll just take more time. It's going to be pretty awful for that rep because I will be calling back at 12:30 and speaking with the supervisor. I expect to get the same answer and am writing this review knowing that I'll probably get much the same answers but hopefully less attitude from a supervisor. Overall, the APACHE PRO-029 is not a bad purchase, for the price the guts are fantastic, the main features (for us at least) the rGB keyboard and the cooling system are superb (the laptop has stayed COOL to the touch all 3 hours we've used it) it is more than aesthetically pleasing and for the price you will not find a better combination. BUT be aware that after you drop this chunk of change there may not be an ounce of customer support for you. The screen of my laptop is too expensive for the company to bother fixing but really, that laptop was too expensive for me to buy knowing NOW (hindsight is 20/20) that I have no recourse when there is a factory defect (I don't care if it's not technically defective in my eyes it is). The computer is lovely, it runs like it should, it is definitely a gaming laptop. But MSI's integrity as a company and MSI's customer service is not lovely and in my opinion not the quality I would expect after making such a pricey purchase. I could only recommend this laptop to someone along with the warning that there may not be any helping hands on the other side should something be wrong with it.
