Great Entry Gaming Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am highly impressed with this laptop, and thought since no reviews are posted I would try to help out a few people looking for a good entry level gaming laptops. First off I wanted to correct some mistakes or add'l info not included on the listing of this product. 1. It does have 1 mSATA drive bay. It is located above the wireless mSATA port. So if you are wanting to add an SSD, you have the option to purchase an mSATA chip for OS and leave in the mechanical 1TB HDD for additional storage space. 2. The RAM is a single 8GB chip. So you have 1 free RAM slot to add in an additional 8GB if you max your RAM. 16GB was the max for this model. 3. There are 4 USB ports on this model, not 3. Two of them on the left side are USB 3.0. and a 2.0. and one 2.0 on the right side. So, I originally purchased a Lenovo Edge 15 as a replacement laptop for my old ASUS going to silicon heaven. I wasn't happy with the keyboard size being too small and the metal edges that dig into your wrist. So I returned it and told the customer service that I had asked about this model, but was taken back by having to order it. So they went out of their way to make me happy and offered to send it to me via the fastest delivery. I purchased this on 4/21 at noon. The UPS was at my door at 10:30 am on 4/22 delivering me my new MSI. Getting the computer in less then 24 hours was great. Next I had a few questions about the system since I couldn't really find any reviews for this specific model. MSI customer support was amazing. They answered all my questions, and even called back a few hours later to see if I had any add'l concerns or needs. Now that is customer service! So on to the laptop. I purchased this as a everyday use/casual gamer (MMORPG and WoT) platform. This has not failed to meet or exceed my expectations. You aren't going to use this as a Heavy Duty, everything on ULTRA settings gaming computer, its just not going to happen at 800 dollars, but medium/low settings I getting around 25-35 fps on medium and 80 on low settings. The Cooler Boost button at the top of your keyboard allows you to run your fans at 100% while gaming so you don't have problems with heat. I was playing WoT for about 6 hours straight and didn't notice any heat coming thru keyboard. The keys and touchpad are textured, I don't use the touchpad so the added touchpad disable button at the top of touchpad is nice. The keyboard size is great and I like the texture of the keys that prevent finger slips. They moved the windows button to the right side of keyboard so misc-clicking in the heat of virtual combat doesn't happen. It has a num keypad as well that I like. Audio is great from what I have used it for so far. Mostly just watching some Netflix and DVDs. I normally use headset so the audio jacks on the side are nice as well. Screen is nice, clear. The new 940m card keeps my games looking nice while I play even on the lower settings. It even has a system monitor button that allows you to pull up the MSI Dragon Monitor tool to check things from CPU/RAM usage to temperatures. If you are wanting a high end gaming laptop your not going to want this machine. If you are looking for a gaming/general use laptop under 1000 dollars, your not going to find a better one out there in my opinion. Hope this helps!
