Opening of the laptop was to be expected. Nice packaging quality material in box to protect the product from being damaged during transport. Initial powerup was very clean and easy especially with the SSD drive power behind it. It is a very slim laptop but wide (obviously for the 17 inch screen). The only flaw which I find is a the 1TB harddrive gets kind of small quickly, however there is space to manually install more drives.I would absolutley recommend this laptop to anyone seeking a travel gaming computer, as that is what I bought this for. The RTX 2080 is a beast when it comes to high graphic games. Overall I am satisfied with my purchase of the laptop. Bravo MSI.

Beast of a Laptop

So I needed a new Laptop for work and for gaming. I found that this laptop might have been a little overboard for work but it had what I needed. The Graphics card works great for Adobe Suite which I use every day for graphic design. The screen is nice and big for running Photshop and Illustrator side by side. And I never have any issues like delays when it comes to using any of the tools. Processing power gets the job done.
Gaming I have had no issues. It came with Metro and I have been playing that and BFV. No issues running all these games at high to max. The 144hrz screen is nice and has a sleek look to it. For such a small slim laptop this thing packs a punch. Cooloing has been no issue. Runs nice a silent until I really push it, even than it only becomes slightly noticeable. I have a Alienware M17 as well for other work and coding. This one runs a lot cooler and quieter.

This is a very thin gaming Laptop. Screen looks great with small bezels. The rtx 2080 will be plenty to push the 144hz screen. This is probably to post mobile high end laptop i have seen. I went with this one over the ASUS because this one kept the Ethernet jack on the laptop also keyboard placement.
One thing: To get to the empty M.2 SATA drive you have to remove the 15 screws on the bottom and remove the back panel. Also if you want to replace the M.2 NVMe drives you will have to pull up as there is an adhesive on the bottom of the drives i am assuming for heat just pull those off and put on your new drives.
Overall: Great Laptop the price is in line with specs and even just 2 months ago the gtx1080 laptops were going for about 2400-2600.

This laptop is phenomenal! Expert design, runs flawlessly. Work, games, it can do it all. Everything looks stunning on the screen and the keyboard is out of this world. Similar models from other manufacturers are not worth the cost, highly recommend.

I needed something for gaming that is portable and can handle anything for the next couple years. I am moving to St. Kitts for Veterinary school and needed something that will be easy to take with me, as I can not take my desktop with me. I reviewed several different gaming laptops, I narrowed it down to MSI GS75 stealth and the ASUS ROG GX701. When I thought about functionality and being able to do more than just game, I choose the MSI because it had an ethernet port (My vet school recommends ethernet connection for the dorms). So MSI won overall in the everyday use and I like the feel it gives when I played with the display in store, the ASUS felt weird to me. I haven’t used it much yet, once I have messed with it more and gamed for a lengthier time, I will update this review and give my opinion on that aspect.

Slick machine. The case and hinge feel solid. The backlit keyboard looks great, but I still have not mastered all the lighting options. System performs well. The fans can be heard, but are not distracting. It does get warm, but so far not hot.

I do a lot of programming on the go, Back and forth from work to home. Its perfect laptop to have that will perform better than my desktop and be as portable as my ultrabook. This is perfect! I can do my work and game on the same machine. I would recommend this to anyone. If you have any questions on the laptop feel free to ask.

As I have only had the laptop for 4 days I cannot leave a very detailed review. So far the keyboard is quite nice, the keys press in deeply compared to the macbook air 2013 which was my previous laptop. The back of the laptop does look plasticy which is slightly offputting for a high end laptop. Also the key font on the front is kind of wierd and 'futuristic'.
Still overall great aesthetic and extremely powerful. Somehow they managed to fit a rtx 2080 inside this thing. Thanks.

Depends on how much you pay for it.

This Laptop is somewhat of an enigma to me.
Decent value per $ for a 2080MQ thin and light 17” reputable branded laptop. This will run pretty much anything at 1080P ULTRA at over +100 FPS easily except probably the 2 ray traced games.
Spec wise, this has everything you want when you are paying this much, maybe 32GB of ram or a 1440P screen would have been more ideal for this setup. Also this comes with 2 500GB SSD's in RAID 0. Great for speed, less reliability, but just know this is not a single 1TB SSD but rather two 500GB SSD's in RAID 0.
But this Laptop really keeps going back and forth with me.
Part of the reason i opted for the 17 was the immersion factor vs portability of the GS65. I am happy with that, however....
The screen is extremely nice for a 1080P 144hz(1440P 144hz would have been better for this graphics card), yet the hinge is really wobbly and cheap feeling and the creaking..... i have some creaks on the left side of the chassis when you put pressure on it. Build quality is terrible for a $3000 laptop. If you are able to get it for less, then it becomes kind of marginally worth it to me. The GS75 with the 2070 is probably more worth the $ at regular price.
Also of note, this thing runs hot and takes some work, fine tuning, and maybe a little more work to get it running optimally. If you just pull it out of the box and run it on standard settings, it runs hot which becomes loud. theoretically if I had under volted the cpu and gpu and adjusted boost clocks, the temps "would" drop to a more comfortable level and they still get the same synthetic benchmark scores while not hitting 90C-92C... if you catch my drift.
Overall, this is in the range of power of a desktop Skylake i7 and GTX 1070. It is hard to say I "need" that much power in a laptop, however if you must get a 2080MQ, this is probably the cheapest you can probably get for a reputable brand and thin and light.
The Zephyrus 17 has slightly better build quality, and much better cooling and performance and gsync. It also cost more, has terrible battery because of gsync and has its own quirks because of the design you either love or hate the design, and chances are you hate it.
The blade 17 still has a full 17 inch chassis and ugly and less practical fat borders, cost way more, and also has a 4k screen which means no high refresh rate and also you can’t run 4k ultra on even a desktop RTX 2080 and hit 60 frames on most games, so forget about it on a Max Q version.
So for a 17” with 2080MQ, this is decent but probably the best at this moment value for your money. The caveat is, you need know what you are buying/getting yourself into as this is a machine with a minus for every plus and vice versa. You are buying an apple priced machine with the build quality of $1000 HP. So you are really buying the components and not for them to make everything fit nicely together. Don’t get me wrong, nothing on here is terrible or bad. It is just for the price you pay, you are getting a machine lacking $3000 polish and having to deal with smaller quality issues that you shouldn’t.
The GS65 with the 2080MQ on here only comes with a 256GB ssd which is a non starter for me, however it is $300 cheaper. The blade 15 would be my preferred 15”laptop with the 2080. For the 2070 or 2060’s in 15” the GS65 is my preferred choice due to cost vs the Blade.
Also I think RTX is undervalued for laptops because while they only seem to pull out a modest performance increase over GTX, they do so with lower TDP’s and less heat which is extremely important for laptops and more so for these thin and lights.
Thermals are the largest restriction for Thin and lights right now. The clocks and voltages for the CPUs and GPUs are way down compared to what they could be in a properly cooled normal laptop. It is easy to see when you look at the same CPUs and GPUs in larger laptops. So you are buying thin and light, which means you are also buying less power for the same given components.

I've been using gs75 for 2 years and it never failed me ever. There is no game that you can't play with this one. And 17.3'' screen really makes you live the game. Although this is a great PC, it heats up like the sun. Even with your cooler boost on, some games will still burn your PC. Also it's really difficult to clean it since fans are (3) assembled deep inside.

This laptop was an incredible deal. I'm a computer engineer and really took the time to research specs and various gaming laptops before selecting this one and could not believe that it was going for such a great price given that it comes with an RTX-2080 Max Q laptop video card. This laptop is incredibly powerful yet still only 5 pounds and runs very quiet. The programmable backlist keyboard feels great and looks stunning. The laptop construction is beautiful, and it's performance is a dream. I have run several strategy and FPS games on it at the highest setting and they all run great.

Just got this and I must say it is a big upgrade from my G65. The case is a work of art with the etching and trims really classing it up. The screen resolution is phenomenal and has a very nice thin bezel. Downloading games via wifi was very fast and the first several hours of gameplay have been an absolute pleasure. Graphics are the best I've ever encountered on a laptop. My desktop is being given a run for the money from this laptop!

Great Laptop in General

The laptop is certainly amazing for gaming, never seeming to drop a frame or lag. The RTX 2080 (despite being slightly downclocked when compared to the desktop chip) is definitely able to drive the 144 Hz display, and gameplay is butter smooth. The laptop has also been great for productivity (programming, in particular). Would recommend if you want one of the best laptop experiences.

I have been using laptops for gaming for many years. They traditionally have been thiuck heavy machines if you wanted the power to run AAA titles on top settings. Due to an injury, I needed something lighter and easier to carry around, so I purchased this machines. I was hesitent at first about it being thin and lightweight. Concern mostly with cooling over long gaming sessions, but have been plesently surprised. It has yet to fail to run any game (The Division 2, Destiny 2, Subnaughtica, etc) and I do not wish I was sitting it on an ice pack. Also, it just look awesome. If you are looking for a gaming laptop, you will not be disappointed.

These are just my initial impressions of the laptop:
PROS
*This is the best 144hz screens I have seen on a laptop
*Very lightweight for it's size/power
*One of the better keyboards I have used on a gaming laptop
*Trackpad is smooth and easy to use
CONS
*Speakers are just ok at best and crackling and popping at worst
*This thing is a smudge magnet
*While the build quality is better than last year it is still lacking for a $3000 machine
Overall I am enjoying the new laptop and I may update this review once I have a chance to get everything updated and running smoothly.

This laptop is so close to being a truly spectacular product, but 2 issues make it a must avoid, especially if you are getting this for gaming (rtx2080 of course you are.) The first and most important issue is the fact that this model only comes in a single channel ram config, severely hamstringing an otherwise powerhouse of a machine. Why pair the most powerful mobile gpu available in a thin and light with a ram config that will cause a bottleneck in a lot of gaming titles? (up to a 20 percent performance hit depending on how it is optimized) To compound the issue further are the ram slots are located on the underside of the board, meaning you have to pull the motherboard out of this laptop to get to it which is no easy task. For 3000 dollars this is a mind boggling choice and deal breaker from MSI. Best Buy does not offer the 32 (2x16) option. The second issue is the screen lid and trackpad. While the screen on this laptop is absolutely gorgeous, the lid itself is questionably built at best. It falls closed if cracked open to about 30 degrees or less. (angle not temp) The track pad is also gorgeous, but due to the body flex it just feels sub par. Again, for 3k, build quality should not come into question. I want to love this product. So much so I nearly tore into it myself to fix half the issue, but I can't recommend it. For the price these issues are unforgivable, and anyone who games and is willing to drop this type of money deserves better. If you are dead set on this laptop, DO NOT BUY this model. Buy the 2080 paired with 32gigs of ram for the same price and save yourself a massive headache and enjoy the fps this laptop is actually capable of producing.
*Pros*
-Gorgeous Screen
-Solid Keyboard
-Amazing storage potential (3 memory slots)
-Beautiful design
*Cons*
Non user accessible (within reason) Single Channel Ram
OK to questionable build quality
Poor audio even for a thin and light

I keep having blue screen issues and having to restart computer. Happens at least once per day. Returned first GS75 thinking it was hardware. Returned it to Best Buy and they gave me no issues in the return. Got new one and same thing happens. I assume its windows software issue. Thought about returning it for diifferent maker. However, I installed extra RAM and memory and dont want to return it again and I really like MSI laptop
