Great gaming laptop for beginners

After weeks of searching around for a decent gaming laptop I decided to go with this one (GS73vr). It's a good gaming laptop for beginners like myself. Even tho it's not the best it's still pretty decent.
One thing to keep in mind before purchasing is that it comes with a lot of bloatware. I'd recommend just doing a clean windows install.
To those having problems with bad speakers, UPDATE THE DRIVERS.
Or simply remove Nahimic software, (although it does bring the audio quality down a bit its still pretty decent tho, shouldn't have to worry about it if your going to be using headphones like myself.
As far as gaming goes, I havn't done much gaming on it but iv'e tried Watch Dogs 2 (which was included with the purchase of the laptop) and also Overwatch. Which both run pretty fine in my opinion, although I am new to computer gaming.
Another thing I should mention is the fan noise, If your gaming and want to turn on your fans to a higher speed to keep the laptop cool , expect the fans to be somewhat noisy (Shouldn't be a problem if your wearing a headset)
Batter life- Not the best, although that is expected especially on a gaming laptop.

It's just my opinion. I am sure that many people will like it.
Use it for couple days.
Very noisy. Became very very hot.
The keyboard was not useful for me because it's very thin.
Had some problems with configuration, call MSI customer service. Nobody answer because they did not work on Saturdays. Awesome)))
Switch for Alienware for the same money but more powerful laptop.

Computer did not come with full OS windows update. Would not update due to the Audio Driver being obsolete. I need to take Computer in to install the latest version of the audio. I bought Computer because i am too busy to have to spend time updating a computer. Reason for 4 star is that MSI's did not test machine well.

The laptop is great but needs to be "polished".

Firstly, the laptop is phenomenal. It is a great performer with an amazing amount of power in a very thin body. The laptop handles everything that is thrown at it from games to heavy programming. In detail, that is pretty much what I bought this laptop for, programming, web design and gaming, as well as various other school assignments. So far, nothing has caused this laptop to slow down. Furthermore, the laptop is very well-built and is a rock solid piece of technology. Everything is put together with great attention to detail. By the same token is the screen, it is superb! Yes, it is a TN Panel but this panel is still amazing. The colors are vibrant and the blacks are deep. With that in mind, there is no screen bleed, I haven't had to deal with dead pixels either. Equally important is the keyboard, it is amazing. The keyboard is not loud and the key travel is perfect and flex is almost non-existent. Nevertheless, even this laptop has it's flaws. The first is the amount of bloatware and how it affects the performance of the laptop. In detail, uninstall all of the bloatware, immediately. If it does not say MSI or if looks to be 3rd party, remove it. An example is the Nahimic software which would cause the audio to randomly distort. MSI advertises this software as an end all for amazing audio clarity. Unfortunately, all it did for me was distort my music, both from the speakers and my headphones. Once I uninstalled that software and it's driver, then updated the Realtek drivers, the distortion became absent. With this in mind, there is the issue with the drivers. For some reason, there is an issue with the mouse-pad driver. It seem's as though the mouse-pad driver can interfere with the audio driver. The reason for this is that sometimes, when i "click" the mouse pad, the audio distorts. I did some reading on the web and others have had this issue. One user had pin-pointed this issue and is accusing the mouse driver for the interference but there is currently no solution. Also, there is the issue with the mouse driver itself. After I had updated Windows 10, the driver for the mouse-pad had apparently lost communication with the mouse pad itself. Fortunately, there is an easy fix for this. The solution to this issue is to re-download the driver from the MSI product page for this laptop. Similarly, there is also the issue with the 1TB HDD. The hard-drive itself performs very well but when it's in use, it makes a very annoying high-pitched noise. It's not faint at all and it can be very bothersome when trying to concentrate on work. For this reason, I plan to replace the HDD with an SSD (Bless those SSD's). Ultimately, the laptop is great and it is an amazing value for the money and I also love how thin it is. Even though it does have it's issues, they can be easily fixed but even then, MSI should have had these issues polished out before released. A consumer should not have to deal with simple issues such as these. Regardless, they are not complicated to solve. One more thing, I've read many complaints about the fan noise. Personally, I've had this laptop run to the max and the fan-noise isn't bad at all. I do notice it but it isn't unbearable. All in all, I do recommend this laptop.

Very noisy. Became very hot during the gaming. Tried to connect with MSI customer support but it was impossible.
Returned it and changed for Alienware - 17.3" Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/alienware-17-3-laptop-intel-core-i7-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1070-1tb-hard-drive-128gb-solid-state-drive-silver/5623233.p?skuId=5623233).
Much better now )))

I haven’t played a game on less than high settings, with most games on ultra. Screen is sharp. Laptop itself is sturdy. Updating drivers through MSI can be a pain initially, and the touch mouse doesn’t feel up to par with how great everything else is. I would still highly recommend.

Don't listen to the reviews complaining about loud fans. YES, the fans ramp up when you are using the laptop, NO they are not as loud as people make them out to be. I dont even notice them while gaming. A laptop this thin with a 1060 card in it and a 6700 i7 will need to move some heat out, so the fans will kick on. The heat is WELL controlled, and the laptop runs fantastic. The keyboard is one of the best I have ever used on a laptop. People are complaining about the font on the keyboard?? Really?? I dont think some of these reviewers have even used this laptop. Upgrading to Windows 10 anniversary edition caused a couple driver hiccups as to be expected, but they all are quickly solved. Sound is FINE coming from these speakers. Use the Nahimic software to fine tune it. Again, this is a thin gaming laptop, I dont know what kind of sound people expect. The screen is FANTASTIC even though it is a TN display. Colors are great, and the 120hz makes a HUGE difference. I immediately swapped out the secondary hard drive for a faster 2tb drive.
Pros-Thin, portable, runs any game I throw at it with ease and smooth framerates. Great screen, awesome keyboard and decent trackpad. Excellent cooling system. Chassis is GREAT and no flex.
Cons- Battery life lasts a couple hours with regular use(again look at the size of laptop). SSD and memory are a little more involved to upgrade.

Obviously with the specs of the second-best mobile i7 on the market, a GTX1060, 16GB of RAM, and an SSD, this is going to be fast. Best Buy's spec sheet doesn't specify, but this is the 120hz TN panel, and not the IPS 4K display. I wanted the high refresh rate over the higher resolution, and other technical review sites have tested and shown that even being a TN panel this produces very good color accuracy and great viewing angles.
It's impressive how it all fits into such a small and light form factor, and how solid it still feels. Unlike most 17" laptops that are powerful, you can easily one hand carry this thing around. Unlike most primarily plastic built 17" laptops, there's no cheap feeling flex in this unit. The keyboard is without a doubt the best I've touched in a laptop. In my limited play time thus far, it's easily keeping pace if not slightly out performing my desktop PC and its GTX970. Haven't had a complaint about fan noise. Simple desktop browsing and Netflix watching keeps the GPU fans off, but even when gaming I haven't been bothered by any noise levels.
There are a couple drawbacks I've found:
Under heavy processing loads, the touchpad action will skip/stutter, sometimes audio will as well. I've read from other reviews that both issues can be fixed with different drivers, but most of the time I've spent with this piece has been connected to an external screen/keyboard/mouse/headphones, where I haven't seen the issue pop up.
The 1TB HDD is a slow 5200RPM unit, which is fine for secondary storage and battery-saving usage, but in an otherwise very capable laptop, it's slightly disappointing to not see a 7200RPM drive. Of course if you're planning on swapping that out for an SSD anyway it won't matter.
The 256GB SSD is a SATA-based unit, specifically an OEM-only Kingston drive in mine. From the sticker on the palm rest, it would appear that the M.2 slot in this is capable of NVMe PCIe x4 drives, but I haven't confirmed it either way. Not that big of a deal, since in real world usage I haven't seen that dramatic of a difference between system performance from a SATA-based to an NVMe-based drive.
Swapping out the HDD technically voids the warranty, but from what I've read MSI will still honor warranty coverage unless your own actions have caused the issue. Getting to the SSD and RAM require motherboard removal, which isn't ideal but also isn't surprising given how packaging all this hardware into such a form factor is an engineering feat on its own.
Ultimately, if you are looking for a thin, light, 17" form factor laptop crafted beautifully out of aluminum that has a GTX 10-series GPU and a color-accurate, fast responding 120hz display, there's nothing else available that I've seen that matches this.

1. There is a 2 video cards on this computer. You need to switch from integrated to GeForce.
2. The fan noise is terrible! Even if you playing in headphones you can hear it! My old ASUS Rog never made this noise.
3. During the game you can fry potatoes or whatever you want on right side of this laptop. It very hot. The CPU temperature on MSi Dragon Center shows.... 70C (158F)!!!!
4. There is no support by phone on Saturday and Sunday!
Going to return this "microwave".

Purchase + Two Exchanges= All Dead/Stuck Pixels

This laptop has a lot of great features, and the sRGB is actually calibrated pretty well for a TN 120Hz panel. The only problem? The first one had two stuck pixels, only on black backgrounds. I exchanged for a new one, which you have to wait a few days for because it comes from the MSI warehouse. The second one had a dead/stuck pixel that the Geek Squad guys saw with me in store. My patience was still pretty good since I was well within exchange period.
The third one was picked up today, and I am typing on it right now. This one has a green/stuck pixel yet again only on black backgrounds. Either MSI doesn't care about the QC control or they are just being lax since they do not have a dead pixel policy.
I don't know what to do. I love the design of the laptop. The graphics are great, and the fans do not get terribly loud. Thekeyboard is really nice and easy to type on.
I guess I will give it another try, but it seems that any produced in 08/09 of 2016 are prone to these dead pixels. I find it unacceptable to have dead pixels on a laptop worth $1800. MSI needs to step it up with QC.
Other than that dead pixel woes the actual panels are great, no backlight bleed and no uneven lighting on any of the three.
