MSI GT60 DominatorPro 3K-475. It's advertised as having an i7-8800MQ (2.7 GHz) CPU but it arrived with the i7-8810MQ (2.8 GHz) which was a pleasant surprise bonus. This is a 5 star machine!
I've built my own desktop gaming PC since 1987. Laptops could never provide me with a satisfying gaming experience until about 4 years ago when NVIDIA met my high standards. Laptops can hardly match the best desktop gaming rigs. That's a given. The CPU and graphics cards needed to match the performance of an average gaming desktop PC would run so hot as to require a huge cooling solution. However, if you are willing to pay the price you can come pretty close with laptops that are generally called desktop replacements. These can have fast CPU's and dual graphic cards designed for reduced temperatures. They generally cost $3500 or more with up to 18" displays. They're portable but too heavy to easily carry wherever you'd take a typical laptop. Alienware has some very nice choices but they can be even more pricey.
Recently, very thin gaming laptops became available but at a premium. I didn't find any that met my high gaming requirements and at the price point I was willing to pay.
Enter MSI with what I think is the best gaming laptop available. At the time it had the best display, one of the fastest CPUs and best graphics card available for the price. I looked for 4 months before I decided on the MSI GT60 DominatorPro 3K-47515.6" Laptop. After 6 weeks of playing Bioshock Infinite, Crysis 3, and Watch Dogs I'm more convinced than ever that I made the best choice. I hardly use my desktop for gaming any more (hey, it's Summer and I can play outside in the fresh air ).
I'm not going to list the features since they're in the advert. Believe me, they're all good. Plus, there's a certain amount of upgradability to this laptop too. I replaced the 128GB SSD with a 256GB mSATA SSD. Upgrading memory is next.
I have only 2 cons: Well, despite the glossy screen being the brightest display available I still would have preferred a matte display. Reflections can be very annoying. The matte display was available but only on the 1920 x 1080p display and the GTX870M (-$400 cheaper though if that's what you can live with...).
2nd con: To play Crysis 3 and most other games on their highest settings the laptop's display resolution must be reduced to the standard 1920 x 1080p (or slightly higher) or you run into memory problems. I'm not sure if upgrading to 32 GB of ram would fix this problem. I loved playing Crysis 3 on the highest settings at the MSI's native 2880 x 1620, but I could play for maybe 20 minutes before memory issues raised its ugly head making me to reduce the screen resolution. The games still look fantastic though. They look as good as my desktop's GTX570 GPU.
Highly recommended even if it runs slightly hot and has a loudish fan. I bought a chill pad 3 years ago and it's working fine to cool it down.
I would recommend this to a friend
