Very strong laptop, but runs hot

I bought this laptop about 6 months ago and so far I've encountered no problems with it. It downloads and runs all games I've thrown at it with excellent graphics settings and no performance or FPS dips (e.i. Crysis, Metro, Bioshock, several others). It runs WoW perfectly with no problems, even with my numerous addons I use for it, also at excellent settings with an easy 100 FPS. My only complaint is that it runs hot. I feel worried when I have the laptop sitting directly on my laminate coffee table as it can make the wood feel VERY hot after an hour or so of gaming. With turbo boost cooling it helps tremendously however the laptop then sounds loud enough that my SO feels required to turn up the TV or will complain about it. I ended up purchasing a small slim laptop cooler, mostly because I felt I needed to get a space in between the bottom of the laptop and the surface it was resting on. The internal temp seems to remain within acceptable limits, and I'm sure others will have no problem with having the turbo boost cooling on constantly, however I feel that the sound-vs-heat rather annoying to deal with, especially with this price tag. Overall this is a great laptop, runs games exceedingly well, and if you don't mind having a bit of noise or heat it's a great laptop to own.

Beats Alienware on price and hardware!

Recently bought this laptop. As of today I have had it for a week. First thing I did when I got it, as with any windows computer, was update all drivers and software, uninstall the bloatware (which wasn't much on this one) and installed my games. I have done some very heavy testing with this. Battlefield 3 and 4 on ultra, DayZ on ultra, ArmA 2 and 3 on ultra, GTA 4 on ultra, etc. etc.. This computer handles all of them very well, without blinking. The dual graphics system using the Intel HD 4600 (as part of the i7-4810mq) and the GTX 870M is a perfect combo since the 4600 has 2gb of vram while the 870M has 3gb of vram. All in all you get 5gb of vram, plus 8gb of memory upgradable up to 32gb. Space for another HDD or 2, unless you wish to use SSD (You can use intels software to swap the OS to an SSD) a nice LCD screen, and the keyboard and sound systems will leave you speechless. My friend has an Alienware 17, and we compared the 2. Mine beats his on both gpu and processor. Plus, unlike his, I can change my GPU and CPU for other ones later on due to the fact that neither are soldered into the board. Desktop performance in a laptop form. I would leave a 5* review, but there is one problem with this laptop. Due to the fact that it is an LCD screen, be careful. It's more fragile than an LED screen, and you will occasionally get dead or stuck pixels. As I stated, I have only had it for 1 week, and I have one dieing pixel already, and several others that get stuck to the point where I have to tap the screen every now and then, which can be distracting during gaming. However, there is a 2 year warranty from the mfg, so if it dies within that time frame, they will repair it free of cost, but that means going without it for a few weeks depending on where you live.

    Best Laptop Ever!

I love my MSI GT70! I was searching for a laptop that did not feel like a thin piece of tin and after careful research I came across this computer. I had to order it online, sight unseen, because Best Buy does not have it in their stores. I also wanted a laptop with a DVD drive. I was surprised at the computer's weight but it is worth it! This laptop stays cool, has a cooling booster, and the keyboard is amazing! You can change the colors and the keys are heavy-duty. And the screen resolution is gorgeous. I would rather haul this around with the heavy power cord than burn out thin, junky laptops every couple of years. This computer is a joy to use!

MSi GT70 2PC is exactly what I hoped it would be!

The MSi GT70 2PC is exactly what I hoped it would be. It is easy to set-up and go out of the box & comes with a very small amount of bloatware pre-installed. It runs very fast & smooth. Its pretty quiet & overall it feels like a well built machine. The aluminum casing makes this feel like a real "machine" & not a plastic "toy". Although It comes out of the box a little light on RAM if you plan on high end gaming, with only 8GB (2x4 DDR3(L) pre-installed) its actually running VERY well & its upgradable to 32GB (4x8 DDR3(L)) Intel Core i7-4810MQ processor NVIDIA GeForce GTX870M graphics (3GB GDDR5) This laptop is a little heavy to be carrying around outside but perfect for someone that wants a nice machine with mobility from room to room throughout the house. It came out of the box loaded with Norton Internet Security Anti-Virus (2 month free trial) & it also included a 6 month subscription for "Webroot Secure Anywhere" Anti-Virus through the Geek Squad digital download service. Don't use/install both Anti-Viruses...choose one. If you're looking for mid/high range gaming capabilities, MSi delivers as promised on this one, with top notch hardware & an all around beautiful machine. -jabstars
