From a person who hates laptops for gaming

I am very skeptical when it comes to laptops, I much rather prefer desktops. But after a ton of research into this brand and just gaming laptops in general. I have to say this laptop was worth the money in some ways I feel like it was a steal. Its performance blindsided me I was expecting so much less and got so much more. I won't say much on the battery life just because normal laptops not for gaming have horrible batteries, so I didn't expect this one to have a good one. Now I'm not saying it is bad but don't go expecting to run warzone for 8 hours without a charge. But even plugged in the heat is not insane the sounds are very low doesn't sound like a F22 flying by. Would recommend throwing another 40 bucks to get the laptop cooler helps tremendously with heat on the bottom and overall noise on the laptop. Honestly wouldn't get any laptop for gaming without a laptop cooler. It runs great way better than I was expecting for a prebuilt usually they suck. It has another SSD slot so throw some more storage and a ram stick and this thing should be everything you need in a portable gaming machine. I sat on buying this for a couple months but in all I'm glad I went ahead and bought it. Definitely worth the money and this is coming from someone who truly hates laptops for gaming. So, if you're wondering if you should I'd say go for it.

I was debating on 4 stars but then decided that it’s not the laptops fault that certain games don’t work well because of windows 11 and the i7 processors and it needs a mouse

Runs every game I throw at it smooth as butter. You definitely need a laptop cooling stand though because once that fan gets going it sounds like a jet taking off! Even in performance mode though I’m lucky if I get an hour of battery life out of it even playing a low intensity game.

I help run the livestream broadcast operation for our youth and high school wrestling club. In 2022, we wanted to upgrade the quality of broadcasting our youth and high school wrestling events on YouTube, and I was told that utilizing gaming laptops was a great option. I got the MSI Sword 15.6" i7 with NVIDIA RTX 3060 and 16GB of RAM. Wow! This device has been a gamechanger for our club and helped stream flawlessly across 12+ events in 2022-23. In a world with 100s of options, I highly recommend MSI laptops and the high quality performance AND asthetics / design of this machine. Along with this rig powering the stream, we execute with a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 audio interface with 2 Audio Technica headsets and a Canon Vixia HF R800 camcorder via Streamyard OR OBS. Given this workflow, we are set for years to come with the hardware and components this device brings. So, beyond gaming, this device is perfect for both regular work, school type effort and livestreaming sporting events as well. Hope this review is helpful!

Runs like a beast and looks like one too.

Short version: This beast has some of the best parts your going to find for under 1500, and all of the parts are of the newest model. The resolution is perfect for a small screen like a laptop’s. To top it off, the color absolutely blew me away. 5/5 Long version: This thing is packed with the 2022 models of the I7 CPU, RTX 3060, 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, and 1TB Solid State Drive. Plus the screen runs at 144HZ, and 1080p for that extra bit of performance. Besides, 1080p on a laptop screen looks like 4K on any old monitor screen. I know nothing about screen color, so all I’m gonna say is this screen is beautiful. Beyond that ask someone else about the color. Now, Intel currently sells 4 different CPUs (CPU stands for Central Processing Unit), with varying amounts of cores - the I3, I5, I7, and I9. This thing comes packed with 12 cores, which I think is the most amount in a cpu (the more cores the better). Unless your wanting to spend 2000 dollars, the I7 is your best bet. It can run anything and is a beast of a CPU. So your getting an absolute killer of a CPU. Next is the GPU. For reference, GPU stands for Graphics Processing Unit, and handles pretty much everything you see on your screen - hence the name: Graphics Processor. Without one, your cpu is forced to run everything on your pc, and when video games are involved that’s a lot to ask. So if you have a GPU, it takes care of a lot of the CPUs work. Now, Nvidia sell GTX and RTX GPUs. GTX GPUs are their standard GPUs, while RTX GPUs come packed with Ray Tracing technology. That means your GPU tracing all of the light rays and lights things accordingly. This makes a huge difference in game, and makes the RTX worth every penny. The RTX 3060 is one of the best RTX processors that you can get. Just trust me, your going to be able to run pretty much anything with this beast. Next we have storage. Long story short, 1TB is a lot. Your not going to run out of storage. Also it’s 1TB on a Solid State Drive (SSD), which is the best kind of storage device. Then we have the memory (Also called Ram, which stands for Random Access Memory). Ok, so, 16GB is sort of a sweet spot. You don’t want the step down (8GB), but you really shouldn’t need much more (unless your an absolute madman and run the worlds heaviest games). Also it’s DDR4, which is pretty high quality. Ok so, take what I say about monitors with a pinch of salt. I’m hardly an expert at anything, but certainly not at monitor specs. All I know is that this monitor having 144Hz means it’s really fast, and after using it for a couple of days I can tell you the color is absolutely the greatest. I was blown away when I opened up my first game. Wow my old monitor stunk. Now, I know a little about resolution. And at first I wasn’t too happy that this monitor was 1080p, which means there aren’t many pixels on the screen. However, on a laptop screen this looks like 4K on a regular monitor simply because a laptop screen is so much smaller. The benefits of 1080p is that’s the computer has less pixels to keep track of so it runs better. So it looks like 4K but runs like 1080p. And the color is glorious. Wow I love this monitor. The battery life is average, and it can get hot after a couple of hours of gaming, but for a laptop a couple of hours of gaming is a long time to not be hot. After that you may need to cool it down. In my opinion, this thing is a beast. It runs extremely fast and the screen on this thing blew me away. 5/5, 100% recommended.

Fast running, Excellent mid-range gaming for the price. Love the SSD that is pretty big but there still could be room for more. For my sister, this was a great buy. She isn't into high graphics games but does game with family on occasion.

Got this on sale for $1049 could not pass it up . Games i played on this are overwatch 144fps, battlefield 2042 100-120fps, and call of duty 100-120fps. Laptop does get a little hot so i would advise on getting a goog gaming laptop chill mat . And of you are trying to update your bios go to msi global site and search for model number . It connects to my ps4 controller but you need a 3rd party app for it to be usable in games a quick google search will tell what app . The speakers are ok wish it was just a little louder but its ok i have my gaming headset . Oh you buy a chillmat and wonder why your temps are still high its because now your cpu is spending more time in its boosted clock speeds . Another trick you can try is in game settings set refresh rate to 60hz and set vsync to on that way your cpu and gpu dont have to work that hard pushing 100+ fps all its gonna push is 60fps. Overall i love this laptop and glad i pirchased it

I think this laptop is amazing. I use it for when I travel for work out of town and it never fails me. I game pretty hard on it and it will warm up but has never overheated on me and if you do have that problem due to warm room temps then I suggest a exterior fan for it and it’s perfect. Above average and right below extreme performance. 2Yrs Of Use.

Beautiful screen and cooling when re-calibrated!

Well, I bought this with my other account, and so since Best Buy doesn't allow editing of your reviews or deletion of them which is crazy, I had to log into my other Best Buy account to add a picture and some other information after playing with my device for a bit longer. I ended up changing my screen colors using the .icm color file from my other Razer Blade Stealth laptop because the screen on this isn't the best screen ever out the box, it needs calibrated so def do this when you receive the laptop. These .icm files can be found if you do google searches and man, this screen is downright beautiful now! MSI knows how to build a machine. I'm an engineer and these new school builds in aluminum bodies for a gaming laptop don't make sense. I forgot how much I miss plastic I can sit my laptop on my lap no problems with this sword. Great cooling!!

The MSI Sword laptops are like the medieval knights of the gaming world. They're big, powerful, and ready to conquer any game that comes their way. Just like knights, these laptops have armor in the form of solid build quality and high-performance components. And just like knights, they can be a bit heavy and unwieldy at times. But if you're looking for a gaming laptop that will defend your virtual kingdom with honor, the MSI Sword is the laptop for you.

The laptop is amazing and fast. My current issue is an overheating issue if I try to play games or leave it running too long. And I don't meant warm, I mean almost burning to the touch. I currently use a laptop fan to help, but I still need to take it in to get looked at.

This device downloads and uploads at an amazing speed! I have downloaded ample games in a fast amount of time usually about 15 minutes per game. Has wonderful performance minus its high heat output and low battery life while disconnected from powerbank. If you are a stationary gamer this is the perfect laptop!
