    A Forgettable Tale

Murdered: Soul Suspect was a game I was interested in playing since appeared to be original. Unfortunately, the game is fairly mediocre. It's a short action adventure game that feels like a mishmash of several mediocre styles. The puzzles aren't challenging, the stealth sequences are pigeonholed into the game and don't really fit at all, and searching for clues is mundane. The story and the setting are somewhat interesting and I feel like if they were properly executed Murdered: Soul Suspect could be been a great game. Unfortunately, they aren't and this game is fairly forgettable.

So I've been curious on this game for a while. Not a ton of action but fun game to dwell into the story. I completed it maybe in 6 hours or so, which some say is short but I only purchased for $20. It was a good Thanksgiving. Good game, if you like having an interactive type story with some action.

Played the game along with my teenage daughters and enjoyed solving the mystery. Very atmospheric game and some solid side-missions stories. Easy to play (probably too easy, might have died twice in a complete play through), but worth it for the spooky story.

Short game with a few side missions, interesting storyline. If you like mystery games this would be a pretty interesting one. No shooting, no guns needed just straight forward thinking to figure out who the killer is, not extremely challenging but a refreshing change from what I usually play. Great twist at the end, enough drama and suspense to keep you guessing throughout the game.

Murdered Soul Suspect is very linear in its game play even though there are a few side stories. The game mechanics are very basic but the main story does a decent job of keeping your interest. I appreciate what Square attempted when making this game but if they put more time and effort into it then it could've been a game more people would be talking about.

This game is unique and fun. It has an interesting story and good gameplay. The case solving is a bit too easy and the game is pretty short, but otherwise it's a great game!

This game, although rather short, is a great story to experience. For the price as it is now it's a must play as far as I am concerned. You can also extend your play with this game by searching for all of the collectibles but be careful, some areas cannot be returned to! So keep your eyes open and search everywhere (or look the collectable locations up on the internet) if you want 100% in all of the collectables categories.

    A Supernatural Stroll Through Salem

Murdered: Soul Suspect is a lot of fun, once you get over the sometimes wonky controls and occasionally odd gameplay. All buyers should be aware that this is not an action game, plays in the third person and is largely driven by exploration and investigation. Combat exists entirely of sneaking up behind a demon and hitting two buttons to remove it, meaning very little skill is required for 90% of the game. Story: 3/5 The game's story is exactly what you'd expect when faced with the premise and location, but it doesn't take any wild twists that are entirely unpredictable. By the end of the game you'll have a pretty clear idea of what's going on to the point where you may be compelled to yell at Ronan to stop being an idiot. The characters are endearing; Ronan is an out-of-place criminal turned cop (detective) who is following the trail of the mysterious 'Bell Killer,' and ends up getting himself killed in the process. His now-ghostly self teams up with a medium named Joy and together they help solve the game's overall mystery. Gameplay: 3/5 The main plot is very linear, progressed by a series of investigations akin to the detective portions of Heavy Rain or some of the investigations seen in LA Noire. Murdered:SS does not do these investigations as well as either of the aforementioned games, but it still works well enough to get the point across. The games main characters, and in some cases side-characters, all have their own charming stereotypes but are still fun to interact with and run around. Unfortunately, your interaction with most non-essential NPCs (baring the 4 'assist' cases) is a noncommittal two line dialog that is often reused and recycled to most others in the area, making possessing these people simply not worth the effort. The majority of the gameplay when not doing an investigation involves exploration around the town of Salem and its surrounding areas. As there are 157 collectables to find, this does give you a reason to explore, and sometimes just exploring is more fun than paying attention to the rest of the game. Exploring merits you close encounters with a few unresolved spirits that need help passing to the other side, as well as items that unlock 'ghost stories' read to you by a series of amusing VAs. There are also historical informationals to find, as well as notes that further explain Ronan's past through the eyes of himself and his loved one, Julia. Exploring can be a little difficult sometimes, given that there is no in-game map to speak of. Expect to get lost in the town of Salem, constantly turned around and occasionally frustrated at your inability to find that one specific alley that gets you where you need to go. As a small saving grace, there is a series of markers that appear to lead you to where your next main mission is; this is great for story progression, but direly unpractical for anyone looking to backtrack and find any missed collectables. Graphics: 3/5 I've heard a lot of people act very impressed about the graphics, but I simply do not see it. Yes, the game is pretty, but no more so than most PS3 games, and even some PS2 games. I've spied my share of lazy or muddy textures, cut and paste rooms, and stiff physics. The locations are all beautiful and very unique to one another, making for a dynamic sense of exploration, but I feel like there was a lot more that could have been done with everything from the lighting to fabrics and general atmosphere. Sound: 3/5 Everything is fitting for a game of this caliber, but I didn't walk away with any songs stuck in my head or memorable experiences others than the awful shriek of the Demons when they spawn in. That is, by and far, the one thing you will walk away from this game remembering. I will say that most of the Voice Acting was done very well, and was definitely enjoyable to listen to. Controls: 3/5 The controls for this game are not very good. I won't say bad, or horrible, but I definitely will not say they are up to par. Targeting objects can be a huge issue, and in a game that is 70% about targeting objects, this can be horribly frustrating. The teleport ability you get later on comes in handy when it works (sometimes the game just didn't like it, in my experience), and there's no real problem with the actual movement controls other than your ability to occasionally get stuck on top of things. There is no jump button, but using the center touch pad as the menu button works well, and the menus were all very organized. Difficulty: 1/5 This game is not difficult. In fact, the only reason anyone could do poorly, is if they assumed this game IS difficult. Trying to look for deeper meanings in the clues, or associations, is what gets anyone less than a perfect rating. All of the mysteries are solved by looking for the clue with the same keyword as what you're looking for; there's no room for speculation. If you can tell the difference between someone smiling and someone scowling, you'll do just fine. On top of that, enemies are easy to come up behind and are disabled by a simple two button press. If you mess up the press, there are always hiding spots nearby to flee to. Once removed from ANY map, enemies -never- respawn. There is literally no penalty for dying, except perhaps having to find a few of your case clues over again. There is no penalty for not getting a perfect score on every mission--and there is no trophy for doing such either. Most trophies will be gained naturally just by playing the game and the rest are all tied to collectables. No collectables are missable unless you start the final mission without getting them (it warns you of being a point of no return) and all collectables can be acquired in a single playthrough, making this game an easy Platinum in 10 hours or less. Overall: 3/5 Murdered: Soul Suspect isn't an amazing game. It has its share of bugs, seems largely unfinished at points, rushed at others... but it's fun. I didn't find it heart-stopping, or frightening, or puzzling. It felt more like a glorified 10-hour-long arcade game, or a visual novel where you spend most of your time collecting objects to further the story. What Murdered does, it often does well; walking through walls inside of houses is fun, possessing people is entertaining, helping spirits pass on is enjoyable, the ghost stories are fun to listen to. It has a lot of good things going on it, and so little of each thing where it doesn't get old while you're playing. In fact, you do feel how short this game is, and if you get into it, you'll find yourself wanting more. Overall, I really enjoyed this game because it was a diversion from the games I usually play, which take 80-100 hours to fully enjoy. This game is a breath of fresh air, a walk in the park, and definitely worth giving a try if you have the time and money to do so.

While I'm typically an FSP gamer, I found this game to be well designed and interesting. The game requires you to solve a series of puzzles based on clues to solve the motive for the main character's own murder. The game never gets boring, right up to its conclusion.

An action game this not. I would liken it to a point and click, but not really-ish game. The graphics are nice, the voice acting decent, the game play is a bit...lacking, the story can be a bit "lol-ish" at times, though overall quite nice, and in a few places quite grim. I think there was a lot of interesting potential to be had here that wasn't quite realized in execution. There was something about this game however, something I can't quite put my finger on, but whatever it was it compelled me to want to keep playing and not put the game down until I had beaten it. And all faults with the game aside it was an experience that I thoroughly enjoyed. While I would recommend it, this game honestly will not be for everyone. It is a bit short, 8-10ish hours and the replayability is not really there, unless you're just there for the story.

Pretty fun game, definitely a cool concept. The only thing really lacking is that it gets old doing the same thing over and over again. Still worth buying for how cheap it sells for. Kind of like L.A. Noire with ghosts.

Pros: If you are a fan of the mystery/detective style of entertainment then you will enjoy this game. The story is dark and chilling and keeps you wondering all the way to the end. Each location you visit in the game gets progressively creepier. Plenty of hidden items will further deepen the story and draw you deeper in. Cons: Since the story is essentially one big murder mystery, after you have beaten the game once there is almost no replay value. There is no way in the game to track hidden items so a guide is suggested so you don't miss anything. Achievement/Trophy hunters collect everything before entering the final area as you can't return and will have to play the entire game over just to pick up the few items you missed. (This happened to me)

This game starts off with a storyline like many others, but the difference with this game is, your not playing as a physical character. Yes, you start off live but end up a ghost! With that you have to figure out who murdered you and figure out how to bring the person to justice. Now for the gameplay; the controls take some time to get used to as you navigate and learn new techniques and ways to navigate the real world. It is a fun and at times frustrating game to play, but overall it is a fun game if you like puzzles and action and consequence roles. This can be closely related (although truly different) to L.A. Noir.
