This movie is hilarious. It's depiction of a unique (and at times frustrating) but loving family is both humorous and heartwarming. The portrayal of a man who is caring and willing to make an effort to make a relationship work is positive and encouraging, and the portrayal of a woman who learns to love her family and be who she wants to be is inspiring. Conservative viewers may find a few humorous moments surprising and/or offensive, but there isn't anything too wild, imo. It's an affectionate, hopeful comedy, never so sappy or clean as to feel sanitized and unrealistic, never so dirty or mean as to feel bitter or alienating. If that makes sense, as my nickname indicates, I'm tired rn, lol.

this very charming and funny movie became one of the highest grossing independent films ever made and i can see why. the story of a frumpy greek spinster with no self esteme meets this very handsome man at the restaurant she works at her parents own. after that, she decides to go to college to learn computers to help her aunts business boom better. she starts wearing make up, changes her hair and becomes more confident. she then meets the man again at her aunts travel agency and the two go on a date. they start seeing each other but the problem is he is not greek and her family does not like that. after some convincing, they agree to host the wedding if he becomes baptised in the greek church with her big fat greek family. hillarous and realistic and also heart warming at the same time. Nai Vardolas wrote the screenplay and starred in it became famous after this and made a name for herself.

I'm not a huge fan of this movie, but it had a lot of good parts.

Any Greek can totally relate to the characters in this movie.

Feminists [or women in general] might enjoy the quote: "the man might be the head of the household, but it's the wife who is the NECK who TURNS THE HEAD [so SHE really is the one w/ all the power]! LOL That was pretty clever & funny. Men might not like that quote though. LOL :) This movie is about the female main lead actress getting a makeover which transforms her self-esteem and catches the eye of a man which transforms her life.

Presentation/Availability: Product was well packaged with no broken/opened box. There were many available at the store. Performance: Very good movie for the family. Customer service: EXCELLENT customer service. I was greeted by an employee as soon as I walked through the door.

I just can't see how popular this film was received tot he tune of around $240 million dollars in America alone, great critical reception and even an Oscar nomination for Nia Vardalos for her screenplay. I did enjoy the film, thought it was funny, but it is very cliched in the clash of clans sort of way. Its performed well, directed decently, and the chemistry is there, but nothing else shows me to the extent of how culturally relevant this film got. The PQ is decidedly well done, masking the fact this was a very low budget film, retaining the color and warmth of the film and having a filmic layer from its original 35mm film photography. The AQ is also well done, retaining the talky nature of the film with the score being filled out nicely. Extras wise, the original DVD only contained a commentary with cast bios (Which is included on disc 2, with widescreen & fullscreen versions), with this Blu Ray retaining the commentary with a 30-minute retrospective and 5 minutes of deleted scenes to round of the extras along with a digital copy round of this mediocre 10th Anniversary release. Only recommended if you're a huge fan of the film and if you can get it very cheaply.

Saw this movie when it first came out. So funny! Loved the wedding part. If you've never been to an orthodox wedding (Greek or Russian), this is a glimpse into part of the service, though there are no musical instruments used in the church- the movie added it.

We recently watched Part 2 with our daughters but they missed a lot of the jokes having not seen the original. Couldn't find it anywhere to stream and didn't feel like spending $15 on Amazon for it. But got lucky and found it in one of the $3.99 DVD baskets!

I've been wanting to get this movie for my wife for some time, but could never find it. On a whim my local Best Buy had the blu ray in stock. Very happy to have gotten this one for my wife and it has the digital version included, so she can watch it on her iPad.

Hillarious comedy film that is infused with the ethnic identities of the characters, and especially their families. A must see film. Quite similar to Italian family life, which I am more familiar with...Characterizations, and roles played are genuine.

This romantic-comedy will be one you are glad that you decided to watch. Fatoula Portokalos, plays an American-Greek woman who falls in love with a non-Greek "White Anglo-Saxon Protestant" played by Ian Miller. This movie has some laugh out loud moments.

A they just moved to newer building and feels like bran new store. Their parking situation is way better! Employee are friendly however sometimes they don’t come up to you for any help right away. But overall recommend this spot!

I saw this in the theater what seems like 100 years ago, and anytime I want a feel-good movie, I pull it out and throw it in the BluRay player. Hot coffee, a blanket and a rainy day with this movie is a perfect retreat.

My big fat greek wedding is a must see. It's a romantic comedy that also touches on family issues and cultural differences. It's not a big budget movie, but I enjoyed it just as much! Give it a try I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Was a great movie when it was released...watched it over & over again...& since part 2 was released we had to own this on bluray to watch again before watching the 2nd movie...unfortunately the 2nd movie is not as great as the 1st!

A comedy that shows you don't just marry the girl, but the entire family as well. Comedy is multiplied when the girl is a first generation of an immigrant family in the US. Now one has to deal with differing customs and expectations as well.

Take an ugly ducking from a strict Greek family, and watch her blossom into a woman, watch Greek customs clash with white American family...wish there were still dinners like that around instead of all these fast food places..

Anyone who watches this comedy will be reminded of their own ethnic background, whatever it may be. It will remind you of your quirky relatives and what they were like while you were growing up. You'll see reflections of your own family in each situation. It's got a great romantic story set against a comic background.
