Great fun and a wonderful, heart felled performance by O’Toole. Simple movie but full of heart and lots of entertainment.

My favorite year is set in the classic era of live television (very much inspired by Sid Cesar). Peter O'Toole plays Alan Swann, a swashbuckling movie actor (in the vein of Errol Flynn) whose off-screen life is a mess -- drinking, debts, alienation from family. He has signed for a guest appearance on a TV comedy, yet his history leads to serious doubts that he will even show up. Yet, underneath the mess is a goodness. The film is at times touching, funny, heartwarming. Over the years I have watched it several times and, even though I know exactly what is coming, I enjoy it anew.

1954 Television with an insecure movie star

Peter O’Toole does comedy: who knew! An English actor who became a movie star playing heroes becomes one in real life live on American television. One comedy sketch on a 1954 television show offends a New York gangster. The gangster retaliates during a live NBC broadcast. An exaggerated, one week slice of New York City life. Peter O’Toole and Marc Lynn Baker star. Supporting cast includes familiar 1980s character actors. A real comedy within the writing and production of a television comedy.

Every year I've checked to see if I could find My Favorite Year on disk. Finally! The perfect combination of comedy and pathos, innocence as represented by Mark-Linn Baker's cherub face and experience in Peter O'Toole's weary mien. Plenty of hi-jinks and an excellent supporting cast!

After "Lawrence of Arabia", "Becket" and "The Lion in Winter", Peter O' Toole gave us this great comic turn. It's a great looking print and transfer of a film and Blu Ray that never feels dated. A great evening of laughs.

I know that's saying a lot, considering the breadth of his career and the multitude of roles he's played. But he is absolutely hilarious in this movie and at his most charming.

I have searched FOREVER for this movie. It has to be one of the best comic Peter O'Toole movies ever! He has always been a great serious actor, but he plays the over the hill and over the top movie star with a wicked gleam in his eye. Just great!
