I did not want wires and the thought of setting up my old surround sound with the bigger speakers made me shutter. I shopped for sound bar solutions and tried the Klipsch first. Sounded awesome, but didn't have surround sound. Tried Vizio and it sounded good, but seemed that the surround didn't sound right to me. So I tried this Nakamichi and absolutely love the smooth highs, stable mid range and enveloping bass that really connects me with the movies I watch and music I listen to. Setup was super easy! I updated the firmware which is easy to do by following the online directions. If you need help, contact Nakamichi and they will be assuring that you are happy with the their product. Has a nice wide soundstage and works great with my new Sony tv! Give it a shot!!!

This was my second soundbar purchase. I went with the VIZIO - SmartCast™ 5.1-Channel Soundbar System with 6" Wireless Subwoofer the first round and the subwoofer was just too loud and you cannot turn it down. That and the wireless surround sound speakers kept disconnecting. My living room is fairly small so the sub can overpower it. I love the Nakamichi so far. The sound is clear and fantastic. The sub can be adjusted down and even on level 1 it makes movies sound great with the surround sound. If I had to pick a few flaws the speaker bar is a tad tall. My Samsung TV sits on a console not mounted and the soundbar comes above the base of it but it looks fine. I haven't been able to figure out how to make my smart TV remote connect with this soundbar so for now I have 2 remotes. One for the speakers and one for my TV. Otherwise this is worth the money. Great sound and look. Easy set up.

This is an excellent surround sound system for the money! In my opinion, the slight negative reviews for this product are very nit picky. The sound quality is EXCELLENT! The 7.1 does show its’ true colors. You can hear sounds projected to the sides from the sound bar to create a solid movie experience. Excellent for sports as well. The bass is dialed in and perfectly punchy with quality depth, without distortion. For $500, this surround sound packs a ridiculously awesome punch. By far, the most bang for your buck in this price range...no doubt!

I had a soundbar. I didn't want another one. The Nakamichi convinced me to try, and I'm thrilled! The sound is great. The volume will rock the house if you want. It's compact and well-designed. I'm a musician and a recording engineer, so I'm pretty picky. This little beauty delivers what it promises.

I wanted a system that had rear speakers. I did a lot of searching online and read a lot of reviews. I kept coming back to this system. I am very impressed by this system and the sound it puts out.

This has become the highlight of my living room. It just sounds so good. The surround is second to none and it has great bass and clear sound. I use this sound bar mainly to watch Netflix, play games on my Xbox One and listen to music using Bluetooth, so I'm really happy with the connectivity options. I found the rear speakers to be a little too soft at the beginning, but the good thing is that you can adjust the volume level of the rear speakers, which is what I did. It sounds perfect now and overall a great purchase.

I've never been a big audio/video person when it comes to the latest and greatest. However, a friend of mine purchased this system and highly recommended it. It was good timing for me because I just moved into a new place. The system was super easy to setup (maybe 5 minutes). No ugly wires running the length of the room. It also looks very cool with it's sleek contemporary design. My family and I watch all types of programming on the TV including movies, sports, regular broadcasts. The various settings you have available for the type of programming you're watching is a very cool feature. This system also allows the included remote control to be programmed to operate your TV. The 7.1 audio channel blew me away. I truly felt like I was sitting in a movie theater. My family and I are exceptionally pleased with the overall great quality of the system for our living room. We are so happy in fact, my wife asked me if we could get another one for the bedroom... go figure!

I'm impressed with the surround sound of this system. The setup was easy and I had it up within only a few minutes. Because of the layout of my living room, I had to make a small change to the individual channel volume levels before I got the desired surround sound balance. But after that, I was very pleased. The soundstage is very wide and the overall sound is very clear. The surround effects speaker seem to do the job well. I can also hear the small details, adding to the home theater feel. The subwoofer also kicks really hard and is capable of producing very low frequencies. Overall, a 5 star sound bar.

Great system. I have a rather complex home theater setup, so this is something I needed because it has lots of connectivity options and a simple setup. Sound-wise, it is of very high quality. Very clear highs and mids and deep bass. This system can go really loud too. Lastly it has an awesome accessories box that comes with all the cables you'll need. Overall, based on user experience, specs and sound quality, this system is definitely worth the money. Highly recommended!

    A true home theater system

I started off with a Sony HTN5 with 2 satellite speakers to match my 65" Sony 930d- system with discounts came out to ~750$. Even at full power to each speaker, surround mode, sub maxed out, etc. There was absolutely no comparison to the nakamichi system. This is by far the best surround sound, best base, best balanced system for the size and price, available on the market. I was blown away. Sat on the couch for an hour just to cherish the beauty of theater quality sound at home. Was definitely skeptical at first and to be completely honest, the nakamichi lags way behind in terms of user interface/control, nevertheless its sound quality is astonishing, and that is afterall the point of the home audio system. A perfect compliment to any home entertainment system. I should also mention that this is my first review, and I wrote it solely because I am so overwhelmingly happy with this set up. Give it a shot, compare it to any system they have as a "display", side to side, whether in person or on paper, there is absolutely no competition for this thing . You won't regret it.

This has replaced the Klipsch R-10B sound bar in my living room, pushing the Klipsch to my smaller room upstairs. It cost the same as my Klipsch R-10B sound bar but has much better surround since it delivers real surround VS the Klipsch's simulated surround. Much better for watching movies. Sound quality is superior. Mids are thick and rich, and the highs are clear. Like the Klipsch it has a 8" sub, so it can produce very deep and powerful bass. Remote sensitivity can be better, but doesn't bother me. 5 stars.

    Nakamichi Gets it Right

Nakamichi’s new Shockwafe Pro 7.1 Chanel (GEN 2, firmware update 1.4) offers a truly great and enveloping sound experience to watching TV, BlueRay, Streaming, or Games hooked up to it. Unlike other sound bars, and even some traditional home theater sound system setups, what struck me is that sound is not suddenly shifted to the back or sides but rather it creates a flow around filling in between. Yes, when the sound should be behind you hear it as such, but it is not as if the rear speakers were suddenly switched on. The sound is much more natural, as if you were in the room with the sound doing a smooth blended transition on the sides and around to the rear, not just bits and pieces being at overtly distinct locations. Given the some limits on Bluetooth’s ability with audio as compared to copper wire, I did not notice a shortfall in sonic range or clarity even while driving the system at full volume while listening to music which covers very low to very high frequency content (Renaissance “Live at Carnage Hall”, released 1976). The base was not muddled and the operatic high vocals were crisp, clear and did not clip. It was very much like when I saw them live many years ago in Chicago when vocalist Annie Haslam hit high notes at a sound level that literally stopped my breathing for a moment – this differed only by being not quite so loud - thank goodness. When switching out of Bluetooth to another input in the Shockwafe Pro, the audio source is paused. There is an option to connect with a 3.5mm cable which is included. Dialog from the center speakers is not lost, but remains distinct, even with the front side speakers being in such close proximity to the center speakers, which is a concern with the sound bar concept. In this case it was clear and present as it should be. There is a depth and fullness to the sound from the Soundbar alone which just by itself makes this a great addition. Bass response from the Subwoofer is present and felt, but does not dominate. The rear speakers provide a full rich range and do not have a “tinny” sound despite their compact size. The new firmware update has CEC working as it should. I have the Shockwafe in a setup with a DVR and a Panasonic 3D Plasma, and when the DVR remote turns on those two components, the Shockwafe also turns on as well as off with them, there was not even the need to add it as a device then input a code into the remote, thus making the Shockwafe as if built in to the TV, just seamless. Obviously not all functions are available on that remote, but then again the remote does not have full capabilities for any device other than the cable company’s DVR. For full control in a single remote, the Nakamichi is easily recognized by newer Logitech Harmony remotes. Using the remote (or just starting the player manually) to start a BlueRay automatically switches the Soundbar to the HDMI 2 port. The Shockwafe Pro’s own remote is a small, clean design with a backlit screen to see which commands and settings are being sent. In a break from everyone else, the color is a yellow-orange with black offering easy reading in dim light. It has the ability to learn from another remote such as the DVR’s and become a universal remote, a nice option. Among the included cables are the mentioned 3.5mm audio, an Optical and an HDMI to link the TV HDMI with ARC port to the Soundbar for communication and control between the TV and the Soundbar. What will be needed is the one from the DVR (HDMI) and another for a second source like a BlueRay Player (HDMI). Using the Optical port allows a third input, the Coaxial port a fourth. The physically small rear components allow placement so that they don’t stand out and dominate the room but blend into the décor in much the same way the sound from them just blends in. The larger Soundbar spans more of the length of larger screens so it does not look like an afterthought appendage, but rather a complimenting design intent. Wall mounts for the Soundbar are included. Lastly, but far from the least important aspect of this product is the Company behind it, and specifically the President, Rayman Cheng working to build on Nakamichi’s history. Their customer service is superb and they have been actively working to improve the product with firmware updates that have even offered new or expanded capabilities. Most times we buy a product and that is it, rarely can we consider that our purchase might even become better afterwards. Sadly too many companies are not run this way. I had a review posted before but removed it and replaced it with this one because the Customer Service they provided helped me get past some glitches I had so that I could truly enjoy their outstanding product. Nakamichi gets it right.

I’m very impressed with the surround sound and sound quality of this Nakamichi soundbar. Really like the sound of this. Very clear mids which makes the dialogue in movies very clear. The bass goes very deep but remains clear with little or no distortion. Awesome surround sound too. The speakers at the sides of the sound bar, as Nakamichi advertises, make everything sound more realistic. It’s like you can tell the direction of every sound. I’m very happy with my purchase. Highly recommended.
