Hello everyone I just wanted to write aver view on the nakamichi because so many reviews have helped me in the past and especially when I was taking the time to pick out my perfect sound bar which I was upgrading from the vizio 5.1 which was very nice sounding but I wanted more bass and more voice and I subsequently purchased the Sony ST 5000 which is a simulated surround sound and to be honest the true surround sound of the vizio was actually better because it head the physical rear speakers so then I went back to researching again and I came across the nakamichi the customer support was great all you do is send them a request on their website and they will call you ASAP within an hour and I subsequently purchased the nakamichi and I little relief feel like I have a $3000 surround sale system in my apartment it is amazing it reminds me of the 1st time I ever heard a Bose stereo years ago and the voice coming off of the sale bar is so crisp and clear and having 2 subwoofers instead of one makes the bass so much more balanced and deep. I did want to mention that if anybody has any questions please comment here and I will reply. Second, I would like to say that the only real difference between the 7.2 and 9.2 if you are trying to decide is mostly the size of the subwoofers and the amount of bass you would get depending on what you think you need for the size of your room or what amount of money you want to spend but the sound bar itself is the same with the same clarity and quality on both it's mostly just the subwoofers that are different. I have my nakamichi for my home theater set up and it really sounds like I have a true surround sound system which it is actually! And, I have my 4K player with 4K passthrough through the sound bar and to the 4k TV using the ARC port on the TV and the ARC port on the soundbar very easy set up and the sound bar has presets that you can customize and set yourself for DTS content versus doby content and/or if you just want to have 2 different preset customized it also has its own about 3 more pre sets on the remote that are already preprogrammed. It's a pretty common sense plug in and play in my opinion but I have head surround sound bars before but if you need any help comment here and/or go to their website and their customer service is quick and helpful.

I've been looking for a soundbar for quite sometime. I really wanted a LG one to match my LG 4K 55 in. I came across this beast watching a you tube video about the CES 2018. How it won the battle of the soundbars. After careful thought and the price, i took the plunge and i wasn't disappointed. The setup was easy with the firmware which they sent me a link with update. They also tell you it's just for the soundbar do not run this update to the speaker. The selling point for me was 2 subs, which is unheard of for a surround sound. Definitely worth every penny.

Dolby Atmos is awesome. This system does the job with good clear sound and great base. It would be better if there were more adjustments for room acoustics. Also, one of the subwoofers didn't work and the Nakamichi help desk was no help! I took it back to best buy and they replaced it. Thank goodness for best buy. I would not buy directly from Nakamichi. I would give it 5 stars except for the above mentioned glitches. All in all, I highly recommend this system. You could spend a lot more money and not get a system as good as this one.

Really enjoy the surround sound. The subwoofers are great. Lots of adjustability, sometimes wish it was more set and forget. Overall a very good system.

I needed a replacement for my aging 5.1 Denon avr and Def Tech speakers. This system was great in its prime but overkill in my tiny living room. Then the avr stopped working and I needed a replacement. I did some research and found the Nakamichi Elite to be the best fit for my living room.I wanted their flagship 9.2, but decided that it was too big for my living room. The sound for movies is close or even better to the 5.1 system it replaced.Movies never sounded better especially with DTS X and Neurol X and now with the Atmos update coming soon it's gonna be even better. I am very happy with the Nakamichi 7.2 system if you are looking for a sound bar and have a small or medium size room, this is hard to beat.If you have the space for the 9.2 Nakamichi get it, you won't be sorry with either system.

We are really happy with this system so far. The interface is clunky, but the sound quality is amazing, and we love having the wireless connectivity to the subs and rear speakers.

    Firmware Upgrade Nightmares

Just purchased the Nakamichi Elite 7.2 soundbar based on technical specifications and a limited number of glowing reviews. I was initially skeptical since various reviews on Best Buy and Amazon indicated problems, but I thought I would take a chance based on having true surround sound, dual subs, etc. Setup out of the box was very easy and quick. Tested it out in the "movie" mode with my cable box and playing various on-demand and live tv movies. Sound under these conditions was quite good. Great, floor shaking bass and good surround sound effects. Then I tested it out in the "music" mode playing various audio cds and also cable music channels and on-demand items with lots of music. Sound under these conditions was much worse than I expected. Soundbar performs well with movies, but quite poorly with any music. I was on-the-fence about whether or not I wanted to keep the soundbar. Then I made the fatal mistake of performing a firmware upgrade of the soundbar (Nakamichi warns against firmware upgrade to the subs). I went through the hassle of downloading the Nakamichi suggested software (trial version, then you have to pay for it) so that I could unzip the firmware upgrade file. The upgrade process was successful. Then I tried to test it again under the same conditions as before. Big problems!!! Basically the firmware upgrade allows the user to change the volume by "2" units, instead of by "5" units. Although this is supposed to give the user more precise control over the volume, what their support people will tell you is that the overall volume after the firmware upgrade is significantly less at any given volume setting than it was before the upgrade. But the real problem is that after the firmware upgrade my subs and surround speakers would not pair with the soundbar after multiple pairing attempts. The support people offered 2 choices to fix the pairing problem. The first was to perform a firmware upgrade of the subs. The second was to perform a firware upgrade of the soundbar to restore it to the original firmware that was on the soundbar when I bought it. Since I did not like the reduced volume of soundbar from the latest firmware, I chose to restore it to the original firmware that was on the soundbar when I bought it. This firmware update was successful and now the soundbar is back to the higher volume levels with volume changes of "5" units. However, the subs and surround speaker still will not pair after multiple attempts. Although Nakamichi support worked quite hard to support me and the firmware issues I experienced, I will be returning the Elite 7.2 soundbar as soon as possible for the following reasons: 1. Soundbar performance while listening to music is quite poor (especially when comparing to my ancient Bose 3-2-1 system). 2. Firmware upgrade process with having to copy and unzip files to a USB drive and also having to download unzipping software is not user-friendly (will look for a replacement soundbar that performs upgrades automatically through WiFi). 3. Inability to pair subs and surround speakers after firmware upgrades. In summary, I purchased the Elite 7.2 without being able to hear it first, as Best Buy stores I've gone to do not keep this in stock and do not have it on display to hear it in the store. At my nearby Best Buy stores I've listened to both the Bose 300 and the Sonos soundbars alone and with their subs (but not with their surround speakers). In my opinion, the true test of a soundbar system is to listen to the soundbar alone without any sub or surround speaker influence. Although this may not be a fair comparison, I found that that the Bose and Sonos soundbars in the Best Buy stores had far superior sound to the Nakamichi soundbar in my house under all types of conditions (movies, music, voice, etc.).

Please accept our apologies for your poor experience. See below for your three concerns. 1. Bad audio for music - Most video content is not recorded in 7.2 channels. The soundbar has to upmix the incoming audio signal into 7.2 channels which does sound amazing. However, 99.99% of the music is recorded in 2 channels and upmixing 2 channel audio into 7.2 is not ideal with most music genres. Therefore, when listening to music, it is important to turn upmixing off (Set pure direct to Native with remote) so sound is only coming out from the soundbar and the two subs. Our new firmware automatically defaults upmixing to off when user is playing music via bluetooth. 2. A firmware update only happens twice a year maximum. Rather than investing in capabilities that are only used occasionally, we have decided to invest into speaker drivers, the dual subwoofers and a state of the art surround processing chip, one that you will only find in audio video receivers that are $800+.
      3. For the 7.2 system only (since it was shipped a month earlier than the others), the subwoofers do have to be upgraded as well and each sub will take about 5 minutes to complete the process. Unlike the soundbar, the subwoofers do not have a lcd displaying showing status, it is hard to monitor the progress of the upgrade. The challenge we run into is that customers will pull out the USB too early. We have since updated our website with detailed information.
If you have a moment, I'd like to invite you to check out the owner's forum, the Shockwafe DTSX series soundbar is the very best there is in the market in terms of surround immersiveness + plug and play simplicity.  http://www.avsforum.com/forum/195-soundbars/2917940-official-nakamichi-shockwafe-9-2-7-2-dts-x-dual-subwoofers-soundbars-thread-32.html

It sounded really good until the HDMI ports died less than a year into use. The bass was surprisingly tight without being too much. I ended up using my Geek Squad protection plan on it to get some other stuff.

I've tried sony, vizio and samsung soundbars and nothing comes close to the clarity and depth of Nakamichi. The dialogs are crisp and with two massive subs the entire house shakes from the bass. Surround sound is all customizable whether it's gaming or watching shows or movies...enjoyable! But one of the biggest pros is their customer service is which respond in hours and WILL help you with anything you need. Definitely a must buy if you don't want to compromise on performance but also don't want to shell out a couple thousand dollars on a home theatre

It is crucial to get the best sound settings on all your devices connected to it. In general, the audio settings for ANY DEVICE (TV, Bluray player, streaming device, etc.) that is outputting audio to our soundbar should be set to BITSTREAM, DOLBY/DTS audio or AUTO. (PLEASE DO NOT SELECT PCM). A common cause for unsatisfactory sound is having PCM as the output audio setting because PDM is the default audio format setting for many devices due to compatibility concerns but it is not the best format for surround sound. When you listen to music, use the remote control and turn Pure Direct on. Since most audio is recorded in two channels, upmixing it into 7.2 channels will not sound any good. By turning Pure Direct on, you will hear the music from the soundbar and the two subs without upmixing. If you are watching video content, you will want pure direct to be off so you can get sound from all the speakers. Feel free to contact support@nakamichi-usa.com if you have any questions. I have had the sound bar for about 2 weeks and have no issues. The sound is crisp and fills the room. The dual subs add a balance no matter where you are sitting. I have a samsung 8000 series tv and just plugged the bar in power outlet and hooked up the hdmi arc. Hook up was a snap. My Xfinity remote controls the bar volume and goes into stby mode when you power off. If you set everything to the proper settings which where on a big card with pictures and instructions... a 10 yr old can do it. The only thing that I noticed is when you power the tv on the bar comes alive but it takes about 10 seconds before sound comes on. Its not a big deal ...no isssues after that. A lot of bang for your buck thanks Nakamichi

This has to be one of the best purchases for this year. I bought the 7.2 and have been thoroughly impressed. Phenomenal sound, playing Blue rays or streaming through apple TV. Doesn't have dolby atmos support, but the Neural X upmixes and produces some spectacular sounds. I installed the Dolby Atmos app on my XBOX One X and tried playing some sample videos, they sounded amazing. And the cherry on top is the customer service. Every time I have a got a response within 24 hours. It seems they are issuing firmware updates which bring atmos and Dolby vision compatibility. At this price and the features, this is a no brainer. You will not be disappointed.
