Customizable, Natural and Beautiful Light Panels

Beyond anything I have written below, these panels are beautiful and probably the most interesting piece of art I have. They have a nice natural vibe when not on and they are stunning when lit up in the evening. I love one of the preset effects called ember, because it has the same relaxing effect as a fire (using varying orange tones). My wife enjoys dimming the panels and falling asleep with them sync'd to R&B music.
Pros
- Panels look very modern like natural wood when off and are bright with beautiful white to orange hues when activated.
-It is easy to connect panels together and make different shapes. There are also a variety of suggested shapes included in the instructions.
- The control panel is small and can be mounted to any panel. It blends in well and does not detract from the look.
- There are a variety of preset patterns and effects that can be used without app setup.
- Works well with both Siri and Google for basic voice commands.
- Includes 7 panels (each measuring 8”x9”) in the kit, allowing you to make a nice-sized art piece.
- Phone app is quick to respond and allows a lot of customization (color temperature, changing touch command settings and creating custom effects).
- The power cord is nearly 8ft long and allows a lot of mounting flexibility. It is also wrapped in a braided material, which works with the natural look and doesn't stand out.
- Custom commands can be activated by touching/swiping a set of panels in an up/down or left/right pattern (after you set them in the app).
Things to Consider
- There are a few effects that will sync with music that is being played (via a built-in mic). It does work and when paired with the right music adds to the mood, but how well it works seems to depend on the arrangement of the tiles and the music choice. It seems to take a 10-15 seconds to start learning the music tempo and if that changes or the beat is not well defined, it can appear more random than in sync.
- Installation on the wall is via sticky pads, which may or may not be removable without damage from your wall. I chose to use command strips rather than the ones provided, because I have used them in the past without issue and I know they will not damage my paint. Depending on your shape, it can also be a bit tricky to get everything lined up and connected.
- These panels have a limited color range from white to deep orange. The app shows color options in some spots, but I assume this is for a different set.
- Using the app for basic set up and settings (like changing effects or off/on) is easy, but it also has some confusing menus and some advanced features are not intuitive/easy to use. The help section of the app just takes you to the Nanoleaf website and a few links were broken, but if you visit the website directly in your browser there are some helpful tips in the support section and an FAQ.
- To set up Google or Alexa voice control you have to remove the default cloud account and set up a new cloud account with a password. I was initially confused by this step and accidently set up a Nanoleaf Shop account (not needed) - both of which are options in the app. After setup, I discovered that Google Home works great, but the Alexa Skill is very unreliable. Both are limited to basic commands compared to Siri.

Excellent warm and cool lighting on demand. Tutorial was easy to follow along with the install. Do note this will probably damage the wall if not taken off correctly with the stock adhesive. Fills my space nicely. Price kinda sucks though.

Wasn’t actively in the market for these, but a great sale price from Best Buy tipped my over the edge, plus Santa was feeling jolly. Owned a bunch of Nanoleaf smart bulbs so was familiar with their products. Setup was relatively easy, and paired well into HomeKit. Most of the effort is in the planning/designing phase, and measuring where you want to place it on the wall. We like the vibe this added to our living room, and periodically set them to react to music. Oh, bought the expansion pack with it up front as be up and running with the final piece in 1 step. Well worth it.

I really love elements hexagons with the wood grain look. Added it to HomeKit and google home works perfectly. Surprising enough the 7 panel puts out lots of light. I paired it to tv and it flashes to the sound.

Lots of great features including scenes that you can set up/customize and swipe control on the panels. One thing to think about: I have these on a wall near my subwoofer. When the subwoofer rumbles, the panels vibrate against each other, which can be distracting. Can probably be remedied by applying sticky tack on the wall or something

I have an older home that I rent out on Airbnb. I wanted to add tech to the house that matched the wood flooring. This ended up being exactly what i was looking for! Unlike the other additions of Nanoleaf, this one looks great when its not turned on. It really does look like light art in this home.

This thing is amazing! besides the wood look, it pairs nicley with Home Kit. You can program the panels to turn on or off any other light in Home Kit. That alone is worth the price of admission. The Nanoleaf app gives you a quite a bit more functionality than Apple home can so you definitely want to play around with that. My only complaint is that I feel like it should come with 10 panels instead of 7.

Cool light and very simple to install. A nice addition to my son's room, especially with the light feature moving to the music option. Looking forward to adding to it, too.

Gorgeous and very easy to install/ customize. The panels click together easily with the bridge pieces provided. I think i will be buying the 3 panel addition, but this base kit is large enough for a lovely light decoration

Love these wooden light panels, really gives off a different vibe compared to those RGB light panels. I have both of them but these wood ones give a nice and warm color which will brighten up any room with a wood theme. Also has cool colors too.

Though a little pricey, these things definitely set a mood in my office. The only issue I ran in to was the adhesive that attaches them to the wall doesn't stick very well. If you use a better mounting method, even better sticky tape, it is great. Make sure wall is freshly washed for best adherence. I cannot wait to add more to this

Bought these because I like the idea of light panels but wanted something that looked a little more natural and void of crazy colors. Set this up along with 2 expansion packs for a total of 13 panels. The good: They look beautiful and respond quickly to controls. The bad: The connectivity needs some work. Despite HomeKit realizing it was due for multiple updates, it took the Nanoleaf app almost 2 weeks to fully update the Elements. They’re supposedly thread capable but I guess it’s just as a border router. How many border routers do we need? Can’t it just connect via thread?
