Customers are enthusiastic about the brightness, ease of use, and HomeKit compatibility of the Essentials Smart LED Lightstrip. Many appreciate the simple setup and high-quality construction, along with the wide array of colors and responsive app. However, some users experienced connectivity issues and found the adhesive to be less than ideal. The length of the lightstrip was also noted as potentially insufficient for certain applications.

Have this mounted behind my TV. The colors are pure to be used as a bias light, and bright enough to be used as additional room lighting. Super happy with this via Thread connection and Apple Homekit. The one weakness I think is the firmware update process through the Nanoleaf app which is a little finicky. Had to reinstall the app for the firmware update to succeed with this light.

Hello RajaFlattery, we truly appreciate that you are happy with your Nanoleaf Lightstrip and the Thread Connection with your Apple Homekit. There have been a number of firmware updates recently to adjust some technologies in the devices, that may have caused some issues, but we our teams have been working hard to make sure we are up to date and working seamless. Thank you again for this wonderful feedback and we hope you continue to enjoy your Nanoleaf Lights!

Good nanoleaf light, wish they had per-led control

I will start off by saying that these are made very well and work great in the Nanoleaf system/Thread ecosystem. The lights are pretty bright and if you want any cool or warm white lighting, they are extremely bright. The adhesive is good and mounting was easy. The control module can have saved presets or you can connect to Alexa through another Thread devise. Nanoleaf Lines for instance can act as a Thread Bridge which is super convenient. I do wish that the color was RGBIC to allow for per-led lighting control and effects, but at least it can do effects like strobe/flash/change complete color. It works well with Nanoleaf lighting set-ups... HOWEVER, I have noticed that some effects that look good on other nanoleaf products cause some weird extra fast animating of effects with the strips... Overall still like the product.

Easy to install, simple instructions for a simple setup. These really are essential for a gaming room. And you can’t beat the price. Added a photo of my setup without them on and with them on bright white to show just how bright they can get even when behind something. These go on sale from time to time for $40 as well! Nothing bad to say! Just what I needed.

I was hesitant on getting these, but I’m so glade I did. I use Apple HomeKit, they work with that. If you don’t use HomeKit, you can just use the Nanoleaf app.
I like all of the brightness, color and scene options. I love that I can set these to come on or off automatically at a certain time.
I use these in my home office/craft room and love them. I bought two strips, so there is one on the back edge of each desk and one light bulb on the top shelf.

Warning!!! These light strips dont work for music! Its for ambient lighting. For music syncing, look for nano light strips, not these “essentials”. Anyhoo, these lights are awesome and very user friendly!

Solid lightstrip, don't use for TV or monitor

I bought this strip to do bias lighting behind an ultrawide monitor on a monitor arm. I was impressed by how bright the LEDs are. This created a nice warm light in a room that doesn't get much natural light during the day. I have no complaints about our second lightstrip, which we mounted in a dark corner of our kitchen to make doing dishes more pleasant. Unfortunately, there are a couple of weak points that make this a bad choice for a monitor or TV lighting setup:
- weak connection between the lightstrip and the remote. This is mostly done with 3M adhesive that becomes weaker over time due to heat. A year later, the lightstrip on my monitor just can't stay connected and jiggles out of place all the time. Slight movements cause the connection to weaken and I have to deal with flickering lights during video calls.
- flex connectors have been out of stock on their website for a year. This means there isn't a clean way to get this lightstrip around corners (e.g. behind your TV or monitor). I ended up having to bend the lightstrip in a weird way that put stress on the adhesive.
- 3M adhesive on the back of the strip wears down with time. Eventually the strip fell off the back of the monitor and I needed to use 3M hooks to hold everything in place.
All in all, a very solid introduction to the genre at an affordable price. At this point I'm willing to pay the premium for products with more solid construction and a more reliable app. I would gift this to a friend looking to get started with smart lighting since you don't need a hub to get started. But I'll probably be going with a different product for my next monitor lighting setup.

These lights worked really well under the bar and they sync up with the other Nanoleaf products. Just be aware that if you cut the light the portion leftover cannot be reused. I tried using corner adaptors and they really don’t work. Just use them as they are designed.

Based on our purchase of some Nanoleaf panels, we decided to give one of their light strips a try, as we wanted to brighten up one corner of the home office by mounting it near the ceiling and wrapping it around the corner.
As with anything Nanoleaf, the setup was a breeze, and I mounted the unit to the wall. In the process, I knocked off the terminator on the end that connects to the controller and managed to munge it up trying to put it on while inches from the ceiling. I can't blame Nanoleaf for that one; it's all on me. We picked up another one, and this time it went smoothly. The results are very pleasing, and it's made a huge difference in the office. It works flawlessly with HomeKit, too. Also, as I've mentioned elsewhere, the Nanoleaf app is quite good.
My only nitpick is the controller: we had to wall-mount it close to the strip, as the connection is quite short. Not a problem with some Command Strips, but it would've been nice to be able to hide the controller out of sight, but so be it. The only other thing on the wishlist is a better diffuser over the LEDs. At times, it can be a bit harsh, if the outer layer was a bit more diffusive, it would make the light more tolerable.
But, those are small issues. Overall, it's a great value, and we will be buying more Nanoleaf products in the future.

Superior TV Backlighting

Excellent TV backlighting, especially if your main goal is to use white (cool or warm) settings. This strip is unique for white lighting as it has 2 sets of LEDs per strip for BOTH cool and warm white. It's easily one of the brightest options for white backlighting. The color options are decent too, but there are maybe some more competitive options out there for colors or for odd features e.g. dancing patterns - the app is quite good so not saying these are bad for colors. If main goal is classic white TV backlighting (not gimmicks), these are unbeatable.

This light is very bright and with 2 of them now, has completely changed the way our living room feels. Compared to other color changing lights that work well with homekit, this is about as cheap as they come, and it’s definitely quality!

The light strip is actually very bright. Super simple setup. Peel off the 3M tape, stick it, and plug it in. Lots of color patterns and options on the app, however, app is buggy and there is sometimes a delay when switching. Nanoleaf really does make some great products, if they’d just spend some time on their app. Realistically I found a color scheme that matched my setup and haven’t changed it since. The small remote attached to the power cable does allow you to cycle through some colors and I’ve found it to be the quickest and easiest way to turn off the lights. Overall happy with my purchase.

I bought these to add a bit of extra light to the living room as it was extremely dim. The strip added exactly what we needed and more. This was my first smart home product and after messing with the connectivity I picked up a set of Nanoleaf bulbs to automate the living room lighting. Everything works great now!

Nanoleaf had become my go to smart light brand it is reliable, but not as expensive as Phillips Hue. My only wish is that they already had a way to have the lights interact with your televison without it having to be through your computer, but I believe that is coming soon.

Very good and fast responding light strip. The colors are not as bright and vivid as LIFX but for the money Nanoleaf is excellent.
