I enjoy using the neat robot. It is a fairly smart machine that does a good around the edge vacuum first, and through the space with geometric order. It does run out of battery after cleaning three rooms.

My fourth Neto XV-21 just bit the dust. LCD screen just quit working. Once that happens you are up the creek without a paddle. I was able to use it for 3 more weeks but then it stopped for some reason and I was not able to get it going again since I had no idea of what menu it was in or problem it was reporting. I tried for over an hour with no success. Tried removing the batteries but still had no idea where it was menu wise when I reconnected them.
I called Neto but it was past the warranty so I just now dumped the $300 bot vac in the trash. I might have tried having it repaired but this was my 4th Neto XV-21 and the previous 3 failed with all the classic errors, stuck wheels, can’t find charging station etc. and were replaced under warranty. Of course your warranty doesn't extend each time they send you a refurbished replacement. Even had a replacement fail out of the box.
They do pick up a lot of pet hair when they work but are too expensive for such an unreliable product.
If you do go ahead and purchase one I would strongly suggest that you get as long an extended warranty as possible.

Buy a Roomba instead

When I first bought this vacuum, I was impressed with its room mapping as well as its ability to charge and resume cleaning. Although I rarely used it (maybe 2-3x/month), within 5 months, the vacuum would periodically stop and require me to take the dust container out and put back in so that it could resume vacuuming. Within 7 months, the vacuum could no longer return to its base and would wander erratically around the room, missing entire areas. I would like to point out that I performed all maintenance thoroughly...including cleaning the bottom and side sensors as well as the top laser. I contacted customer support and was treated extremely poorly. They refused to honor the so-called "warranty," and said that I should contact a vacuum repair shop or buy a new vacuum. I REFUSE to buy another vacuum from a company that manufactures a sub-par product and will not treat their customers with respect. I recently bought a Roomba and could not be happier!

Great function but flawed dust bin

Bought last Christmas for wife. Worked great for first 3 months or so. Picks up cat hair and other misc. stuff very well. Sweep pattern seams very efficient. We really like the unit. The one major issue was the dust bin not "latching" after about 3 months. It became basically unusable. The design of the latch was flawed. You will find "home remedies" on line including drilling for a screw to hold bin down. They have redesigned the latch on the dust bin and we have the new design which so far is working. We will see over time if the new design fixes the issue for the long haul. Would recommend only with the new dust bin.

I own 3 Neato XVs in my house. When i finally got the latest generation, D80, i was glad i upgraded. Everything has been improved. Battery lasts about 60% longer, side brush is very nice and dirt filter is HUGE. i did have to pay twice as my XVs but well worth the upgrade

This little guy is good on carpet but better on tile. It picks up so much for being so little! I like that it cleans my entire house, which is a blessing considering the size and it occupants! We have 3 dogs and a somewhat skilled mess making toddler! I clean the filter and the brush every time due to my hair being ridiculously long and getting caught. I love my Neato!

DAMAGES trim & hardwoods! ALWAYS beeping!!!
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
It's always breaking with some error. Most recent says to turn power back on!? Really? I flip the switch but it doesn't matter, I can't even use it right now. It's going back but too late for a refund at this point.
It BEEPS LOUDLY constantly!! All night long!! So if I'm tired coming home late and don't find it and fix it right away it beeps all night I can hear from upstairs with a closed door. Even putting it on the base doesn't help, it either isn't positioned perfect, needs emptying, the bin isn't placed perfectly, etc...then when you attempt to fix it, it doesn't let you know it's still not right until you get all the way back upstairs snuggled under the sheets...THEN it decides to start it's incessant beeping alll over again!
If that wasn't bad enough, my baseboard trim now needs to be completely resanded and repainted because ALL of it is gouged and paint is almost completely removed from it constantly bumping and pulling along the walls. Where there is no trim to bumper it like the doors and cabinets, the cabinets paint are tore up.
Lastly, I tested it upstairs last week before it broke on my new hardwood floors and it dragged my body scale throughout the room with it making huge gouges on my brand new hardwood floors!! I'm so so so frustrated by this product I don't ever want to see it again. I truly wish I could just get a refund, I even bought the protection plan for it but I hate this thing!
Other issues: its tall and it has a tall circle that gets stuck under EVERYTHING, it's stupid! I put it in a room 10 times to try to get a dirty room clean and every time it makes a beeline directly out of the room. Ugh. Oh and the magnetic strips are a joke and don't work at all. It just pushes them out of the way.
The only good things I can say is it has great suction and its scheduling is reliable. Battery life seems good. Cleaning is easy but dirt escapes while emptying bin and really hard to get back in perfectly.
I ended up buying a $115 dual mop/vacuum robot which so far I like better. Less suction but more reliable and less damage to my house with a lower profile to get stuck less. Tried to post pics of damage but it didn't want to load.

I was so excited when my husband purchased this for me. In fact, we used the first week and loved it so much that we purchased a second one for our second floor. Now, to be fair it could have been the size and floor plan of our home that messed with the bots. Our home is 2,800 square feet with many different rooms on the first floor and 1500 square feet on the second level.
Like I said the first one we purchased worked awesome the first week we had it. Then we noticed it was having trouble finding the base. It would try to dock at our limestone fireplace and just keep backing up into it. We stopped running it when we werent home in order to watch it. It typically had to dock three times to finish the lower level. The first dock was no problem, but after that it would get totally confused and the final straw for us was when it just kept hitting the wrought iron double front door, turn around and nail it again (over and over and over again.).
The one we purchased for our second story never worked from day one. It would get lost and couldn't find it's base. We kept it for a couple weeks to see if it would get better, but it didn't and the second floor is way easier to maneuver than our main level.
In our opinion, if you are spending almost a grand on the robot cleaners (because we purchased 2) it should have better GPS/Finding base than what we witnessed. The reason we chose the neato was because of the ability to remember where it left off and go back. We knew our house was a lot and going to need more than one swipe at cleaning.
If they ever fix the GPS issues I would be more than happy to try it again. When it worked well it was a great product, but that was only 5% of the times we used it.

After 15 months of use, here's what you can expect
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Good reviews are hard to trust since so many people seemingly write them immediately when they first use a product. I purchased 2 Botvac's in June 2015. One for my office and one for my home. You can find plenty of positive information about these Botvac's so I will share my negative experience. Getting to the point, the batteries wear out fast and need to be replaced.
At 7 months of use, the Botvac I keep at my office no longer functioned and displayed a message to push the power switch down to on, when on the charger. I cycled the battery a few times which seemed to help, but I was not happy that after only 7 months on a $450 product I was being told by Neato I needed to buy a new $50 battery.
Moving along, at least my Botvac at home was still working well. But the spinning side brush is held on magnetically and almost always comes off, left somewhere in my house to find. Also, both Botvac's have a tendency to get stuck under 4 leg chairs. My nice wood chairs in my dining are marked up from the Botvac's attempts to get un-stuck, in which it lifts up off the ground scrapping the inside of the wood legs, leaving marks.
Both of my Botvac's ran 3 days a week. The NiMH batteries need to be used to keep them fresh. NiMH batteries should be fully discharged every so often as well, otherwise, they'll crystallize and be ruined. The reason I have chosen to leave a review at this point is that this nice Sunday morning, my Botvac at home is now also telling me to turn it on, indicating the battery is no longer good. I'll attempt to cycle it but most likely it will need the $50 battery. If you don't want to buy a new $50 battery every year or so, don't buy one of these. I bought one of the original Roomba's in 2003, I did not have to replace the battery until 2007. I do use a lot of various battery types and have advanced chargers for them, so I consider myself very familiar with proper battery care and maintenance, from NiMH to LiPo.

Great addition to cleaning up pet fur

I was curious about robotic vacuums at first, but this guy picks up a lot more fur in my carpet that my regular upright did not! It is easy to use and with its programmable features, I have it run automatically 3 times a week. Unlike other cleaners, it cleans in a pattern so my carpet looks like a manicured lawn with no missed spots.

I was generally impressed with the vacuum when it worked. However, after 1.5 years the vacuum no longer works and I'm sending in for $200 of repairs. Normal wear parts like brushes are also extremely pricey.
Averaging $300 a year for a clean floor?!?! Buy a normal vacuum if you can't afford this luxury. .

Got this product for with minimal expectations of how it would do with the various floor coverings we have. It has had no problem going from wood floor, over transition to linoleum, across throw rugs with fringes and into carpeted rooms. We had just cleaned the house when we tried it for the first time and where stunned with how full the dust bin was when it was done. It was not as loud as we expected and we have had it clean while we watch TV. We have had it clean about 4 times a week and it is amazing how packed the dust bin gets when you think your place is clean. One time a cat toy got caught in it's brushes and it stopped, beeped and asked for it's brush to be cleared. It did get stuck under a desk one time and under a bed one time but usually finds it's way home to get recharged. Wish we had got this robot a long time ago. It's nice to come home and see that the house looks like it just got vacuumed, because it has.

Best Customer Service Representatives Ever!

First off this product is truly amazing. It has more artificial intelligence than any other “robot vac” on the market. Plus it doesn’t miss any areas because of the shape of the vacuum and the way it works. It has a powerful suction and simply out performs any other vacuum on the market. I have had others and they work fine but this robot vac is the difference between a Porsche and a Kia.
However, and thank you Andrew at Neato, the customer service is what sets this company apart from ANY other company I’ve ever dealt with period. They are patient knowledgeable and go the extra mile to help. I will forever be a Neato customer because they truly care. I can’t say enough about the product or the customer service.
Thank you Neato. Thank you Andrew and all at Neato for your help.

Unable to vacuum large homes

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I've been very disappointed with the Botvac D80. I purchased it to replace an older Roomba model that wasn't able to clean my 2000 sq ft. first floor. Unfortunately, the D80 isn't up to the task either.
For starters, the design has a significant flaw that resulted in the brush bearing seizing after only a few uses. The support documentation doesn't provide any information on how to fix it. I found a YouTube video that helped, but the bearing doesn't spin as freely as it should and I frequently get a "Please clean my brush" alert due to the resistance in the bearing. The bearing assembly would be very easy to replace, but Neato doesn't provide replacement assemblies so I'm left with the option of dealing with the issue or purchasing a new brush that will likely have the same issue.
The D80 doesn't do very well on thick pile carpet, and we have several area rugs that the device struggle on or gets stuck. The recommendation from Neato is to use their magnetic strip to mark of boundaries where you don't want the device to go. However, they don't provide enough length to mark off a single small area rug. Since the D80 is marketed as a device that can cover a large home, they should include far more with the product.
To make matters worse, the strips aren't very effective. The D80 can't sense the strips if you put them under the rug, so you're forced to lay them out and pick them up before doing each vacuum run. Even then, the D80 tends to run into them and move them, so your boundaries shift.
Finally, the device is not nearly as intelligent as it is advertised to be. I frequently have had to pick up the device and move it to a clear area because it gets stuck. Shortly after resuming operation it rolls back to the exact same location that it got stuck in before. In the middle of a run, it will show a message that it's returning to the charging station to recharge the battery. However, it will head in the opposite direction from the charging station. I've picked it up and docked it to the charger, only to see it head off in search of the station after selecting the "resume docking" option.
I've come to the conclusion that it takes me less time to vacuum the house myself than to assist the D80 in doing the vacuuming.

Laser failure after one year
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Purchased this for Christmas 2016. We ran it three times a week and replaced the battery with a Neato replacement battery after about 8 months use. One week before Christmas 2017 it failed. No more warranty, no more vacuuming, and just over a year past purchase.
Error code indicates a laser problem. Needless to say, for as much as it cost, I’m very disappointed. I followed manufacturer instructions, but it’s still not working.
I didn’t do only one star because when it was working, it did pretty well vacuuming. We have a long haired dog and still it wasn’t much problem to clean the hair off the roller. However, some random laser failure after a year causes me to not recommend it. Simply too expensive to be failing like that.

Lost in the house

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Our first unit was the botvac 80 and it worked pretty well until the charging system gave out and then we upgraded to the D80. The new D80 will lose it's direction and cannot find its way back to the base. Even after cleaning the 3 sensor windows and also calibrated the battery (per customer service request). We have sent the first two D80 units back to Neato instead of using the BB warranty and tried to explain to Neato what these units are doing and even sent videos for them. This will be our 3rd D80 that Neato is shipping to us. Neato has not made any changes to the D80 per customer service for the 3rd unit. The concept of robotic cleaning is very desirable but I believe that Neato needs to truly test these units further before turning them out on the market. I still hold high hopes that the 3rd unit will work properly and have long lasting durability.

I liked this little robot 6 months ago and then it all went bad. Shortly after 12 months I continually got the msg "clean my brush" despite it being clean and not stuck. I tried everything; new brush, new filter, new battery, but nothing worked. After emailing neato support for over a month it was determined to be the motor. But my warranty was over and they recommended sending it to funai (bc no other vacuum stores repair them). But after looking up reviews on funai, which were HORRIBLE, I am unwilling to pay to have it repaired by them. So I'm out over $400, and it's very disappointing. So I recommend you either go with another bot or if you must have this, buy the store warranty!
