One of The Best arcade racers

Without doubt, NFS:MW is the 2nd-best arcade racer out there, just ahead of NFS:HP, barely behind Burnout Paradise: many consider the game to be BP2, as some features are copied (a good thing). The well designed and varied courses, locales, and terrain, that are exquisitely rendered things of beauty, are coupled with gameplay that is thoroughly enjoyable [caveat] once you're broken in. The game can easily frustrate, and does require practice as some skills important in the past become nearly vital this go-round - not only in races but in events that reward the player with important upgrades to the vehicles. Fortunately, the car handling mechanics are easily a match for BP. A brilliant departure from prior games (worthy of mandatory use from here on) is in collecting the vast assortment of vehicles - basic models are not earned, but discovered during FreeDrive, and more-or-less hijacked (peaceably). And what a collection - not only the normal inventory of near-fantasy drool-worthy vehicles, but some more ordinary cars, and only once before in on-road racers have I seen a pickup truck included. And also only once before has DLC so expanded this type game - not just an added (fun!!) location, but an excellent group of vehicles present and past (think Bond and Bandit among those). The flaws of near-perfect AI opponents and myopic cops are still present, but much improved - the AI vehicles aren't too adept at courses or quick to capitalize on mistakes; on the other hand, the cops still obsess, but here are borderline Keystone, which made it sometimes difficult but at the end more fun (20 minutes parked on the patio overpass at the pipe ramp, watching...). One other feature was the short intro preceeding each and every event - a few were watchable, some comedic, but many were exercises in graphic arts so nausea- or pain-inducing I had to look away until the race actually began; on the whole, an unnecessary variant. None of the events ever seemed impossible (never fully gave up on trying to advance - which is something I can't say for BP's Stunt Runs), but some were tortuously difficult, needing ridiculously numerous attempts and/or amounts of practice: a few locations made it just too easy to slide off into oblivion; some hot pursuits were problematic (partially resolved by watching online postings); a few of the races just needed some luck; the drifting events at first were hyper-frustrating, but after awhile some got to be favorite events. And the soundtrack - well, it's the first time I've ever parked just to listen to the music: some oddly curious yet still fitting choices (yes, I refer to Icona Pop), but nothing totally objectionable, and notable selections (The Who remixes, the Maccabees, and the Ambassadors) sent me searching online to download. To finish up (stop cheering), the game is a must for fans of arcade racing; nothing handicaps or goes missing for the non-online gamer; most certainly a keeper worth revisiting, a bargain at current prices, and worthwhile DLC that's not too expensive - get the package, not the bits and pieces.

The game is ok not what i was expecting. You can't customize your car. 1.The car gets painted once u pass under a gas station, so you cant really paint your car. 2 you dont buy cars at all you have to drive and look for them they are hidden around. 3 you cant modify any engine parts you cant buy turbo, intake , etc. the only thing you get to upgrade performance wise is the nos and even then its a 2 second burst. 4 the car crashes slow the game way to much, yes its realistic but slows you down. 5 there is really no story to it at first you think there is but no theres no story you're just racing and running away from cops which is fun but gets boring to fast no challenge, you just get points and with enough points you can race for spots on the wanted list Graphics are cool and also that you can drift but other than that i wouldn't buy it or recommend it. Need for speed disappoints me again i was expecting better the first most wanted game was way better.

    NOT NEED FOR SPEED

There is one good thing, the graphics. Other than that, it has been ruined. This should no longer be called NFS more like run from the cops with a stock car. There are no longer customizations other than nitrous, they took away all the fun thinks such as: *You are no longer unique because everyone can get the same exact car as you and you don't even get to control the paint color. *You can't drive half a mile with hitting a wall or another car and it takes like 5 seconds to start again. *The cops are sooooooo easy to get away from its not even fun anymore. *Nitrous lasts like 2 seconds. *If you get busted, you just start off from where you car began and they don't impound it like they used to, this might sound good, but it takes away the fun part of getting away. *There is NO STORYLINE anymore, its just "Become the #1 racer blah blah." It used to be really cool how all the racers had a name and what not, but those days have come and gone. *You have to find cars, this is boring I want to be racing not trying to find a car all day. *The tires blow out if you burnout too long. *Gets really old just running from the cops. *If I want to get chased by the cops, I have to literally stay right where I am and wait until the cops are atleast Level 5 before its not to easy. *Need For Speed Most Wanted has let me down, other than the graphics, this game it for 7 year olds. *ONLY 1 PLAYER OFFLINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would not spend 15 minutes to write about a item unless it was this bad, save your money.

    Fantastic Open-World Arcade Racer

I've only been playing NFS:MW for about an hour now, but I had to post a positive review here to offset the negative ones that have been appearing. Folks who like crazy, open-world arcade racers like "Burnout Paradise" will be ecstatic playing this game. You drive around a huge, beautiful city, entering a variety of races or looking for cool cars to drive and own. That's right -- you find it, you drive it. You don't have to earn points to unlock cars. You do, however, have to earn points to unlock vehicle upgrades. And each car you unlock has its own set of races to compete in. Your ultimate goal is to become one of the city's 10 Most Wanted drivers -- beat them and you own their super-duper cars! If you like NFS: Hot Pursuit, you will also enjoy the cop chases in this game; you can lose the fuzz by smashing them, outrunning them, or hiding from them, but watch out -- the more you evade them, the more roadblocks and faster pursuit cars they throw at you. I haven't tried the multi-player mode, but I can tell you that the single-player game rocks mightily. Speaking of which, you can also listen to your own tunes on the car radio instead of the game's own soundtrack. I seldom buy a game at launch these days to save money, but this is one game I had to have and I don't regret paying the price. Really -- fans of NFS:Hot Pursuit or Burnout Paradise should not hesitate an instant picking up this game.

HUGE let down if you liked the 1st Most Wanted

I was a huge fan of the first "NFS: Most Wanted" on the PS2. Great storyline, tons of customization options and you felt like you were working towards something - which I guess counts as part of the storyline. "Carbon" was ok too and I even liked "Under Cover" - though both paled in comparison to the original "Most Wanted." I was longing for a NFS title for my PS3 and I'd looked at getting "The Run," but it got such poor reviews I decided to save my money. I wish I'd done the same with this latest iteration of "Most Wanted." The storyline is almost non-existent. Yes, there is a top 10 list you can try to crack, but the path to do so is arbitrary. Either complete the four races for the car you're in -and make the limited upgrades available- or drive around until you find a different car to "jack" and complete the races for that car. Don't like your paint color? Drive through a gas station and watch it change like magic. Don't like anything else about your car? Too bad, there's nothing else you can do. Well, that's not entirely true. You can unlock a body kit or two per car, but again, after the level of customization available in previous titles under the NFS umbrella, I really expected much, much more. Maybe that was my problem - I had expectations. Maybe for what it is it's not a bad game. But to name it "Most Wanted" insinuates that it may have some relation to the original and in my opinion using that name for this game is extremely misleading. The elements that I enjoyed from the first MW are almost all missing and that's why I gave it an overall rating of "2" even though my average rating for the individual categories may be a bit higher. I've been playing for the 2 hours since I got home from buying it and I'm only considering playing more because of the $60 I spent. Really I just want to turn it off because I'm bored. Maybe some kind of story arc will appear once I reach a certain point, but I doubt it. If I could return the game, I would in a heartbeat.

    Great Racing Game

This was great in PS2 where there was a career mode and you have to achieve points by either completing racing or evading pursuits or achieving milestones. The PS3 version even if it is not so organized as PS2 version, still has great graphics and very great cars. Best Car racing game around.Highly recommended...

Of course after reading some of the reviews I couldn't help but feel bad for those who may have been swayed away from such a truly great game. Yes I am aware of the title and having played the original Most Wanted I was very excited to hear about this game. First things first, this is NOT the same as the original. Criterion did a wonderful job of implementing some of the aspects of the original into this game with a lot more cool features that definitely give a new meaning to multiplayer. The city is huge and there is a lot to explore whether you are triggering speed cameras, smashing billboards, evading up to even the SWAT teams, or just cruising around. The customization is there not as much as previous installments but it doesn't take away from the game at all. This game prides itself with Autolog/Easydrive mechanism that add a whole new dimension to street races. I fell in love with this game and I'm sure anyone who is debating on picking this up. Do it. You won't regret it. I personally give it a 9/10.

The story is somewhat lacking. The plot is that you are a racer and there are 5 racers that are the most wanted and you basically have to defeat each one to become the "most wanted". Silly premise aside the racing is nice and the soundtrack is great. Do not expect this game to be a racing simulator like GT5 or Forza.

I think that this is one of the best racing games that I have ever played on the PS3! The graphics are astounding, and the cars you get to choose from are great! Love the free roam, and the cops coming after me! The online racing is also pretty cool. I would recommend this to anyone who loves racing games, and wants something fun to play.

The Story line overall is non existent. There literally is no story line. The graphics are amazing and so are the challenges to get the billboard and cars. Kind of like burnout. Overall a great game to let your driving skills be shown on screen over on the streets.

    Game is bad

Crash scenes galore. Police have infinite speed. Single player opponent racers drive like its a demolition derby. Too many planted vehicles around blind turns in race that you crash into. (BOOM! crash scene) Too much junk in the way while you are racing ie. street lights, lamp posts, trash cans, construction barriers. (It stays in the street and then blocks your view for a split second) Speaking of blocking view, when you take out another driver, on the screen it says you slam takedowned the driver and that pop up is right in your line of sight. Almost crashed because of it multiple times. I bought this after reading the reviews thinking it can't be that bad. But yep, it is. Makes me wonder if EA fired all of their game testers or the game testers are too timid to speak up. Oh, and of course the locked cars are everywhere, you get excited thinking you found a new car and then you get the in game prompt telling you to enter the store so you can buy the other DLC. The new tag on the store never disappears. This game made me want to throw my controller through the screen.

I've been playing NFS since way back on the PS2. I didn't think any NFS game on the PS3 really shined on the console until Hot Pursuit. Then Shift 2 came out and I thought that game was amazing too. Then The Run came out and that one was good as well, but this one is by far the best NFS game ever. I love the open world and the little challenges scattered throughout like competing against friends for most billboards smashed, furthest jump through a given billboard, fasted clocked speed through a speed camera, etc. it's just a ton of fun and I can't wait to go and play it some more! (I've already "beaten" it)
