    Relentlessly Entertaining

If the trailer spoiling the entire movie wasn't enough and you still decide Nerve is worth a trip to the cinema you'll likely be pleasantly surprised that it still proves to be (mostly) compelling. Despite ultimately knowing every beat this film is going to hit even if you've only seen a single trailer there is still something in the editing and overall emotional effect and where this wave of neon takes you in terms of a single experience that makes the film worth watching at least once. What that essentially means is that Nerve is not solely about getting from point A to point B and making sure the plot works which, considering the density of the details needed to understand the game is impressive enough, but more than that it focuses on the small moments in between those plot points allowing it to remain both compelling and more affecting than one might initially expect. One wouldn't think a film made by the guys behind Catfish (as well as a few Paranormal Activity flicks) would transfer so well to full on feature-length narrative storytelling, but with a script by Jessica Sharzer adapted from Jeanne Ryan's novel the filmmakers are able to tap into more than just the timely and relevant premise, but more the timeless relationships between high school students and the conditions of those relationships that being at that stage in life typically dictate. More than just another love story of sorts where the innocent/meek school girl takes the leap out of her comfort zone only to find a guy who she would have imagined was light years out of her league actually likes her for her-Nerve wraps its world in the dynamics between not only the young adults who are attracted to one another at the center of the story, but extends it to their circle of friends that tend to influence their decisions as much as their own minds. The fact the movie is about an online game with a countless number of viewers offering their "Likes" and comments only reinforces this mentality on a whole other (timely) level. By fleshing out not just the main protagonists and the game at its core, but rather by immersing viewers in this single night in New York City where neon can only mean more fun, exciting things Nerve overcomes its predictability and familiar story structure by giving us characters we care about.

Do You Have The NERVE (to do it)?

NERVE (2016). EMMA ROBERTS and DAVE FRANCO, both maturing and aspiring millennial actors developing their chops. This is a cool millennials' film employing the omnipresent smartphone. NOT in a "horror-ful" way, as other recent millennial films have done. This one is one that builds dramatic suspense with it's plot of the adrenaline-seeking two (three) main millennial stars. It has that "jagged-millennial feel" of a novice budding movie, not yet matured in style, skill, nor expertise, but its so cool in it's concept! I get to relive what I experienced at the theatres. The actors are pleasing to watch as they build-up to their high-stakes finale. It's another "Young people growing up in a smartphone-possibilities technological society!" But unique,... Even as it portrays the all-too common now, "Truth or Dare" mentality of a stimulation-seeking adolescent society! Well-done, tastefully demonstrative.

I bought this film a month after it released on Blu-ray. Truthfully I expected Nerve to be just another "Teen" movie with no substance & a poor story line. My wife & I watch on a 180" home theater screen w/ full projection, 7.1 surround sound & Buttkicker Transducers. The Video & Sound quality are superb! The big surprise was the story! I love film, and really try to give every film a fare shake. My pre-conceived notions were that this film would be shallow and lack a solid story-line. My wife felt the same. We were both very wrong! This film was entertaining to say the least. We even noticed some rather 'famous' YouTubers who were included in the filming. Without giving Away the story I will give leave this review with a strong recommend! As you follow the charecters through a fantastic adventure that seems up front and in control, thing twist & the fun ensues and oddly things spiral into an even more "controlled" environment you can help but get swept up in. Everything from the technology to the sheer wit is interesting. Highly Recommend!

When a girl decides to go outside of her comfort zone to become a player in a game from the dark web, she winds up on a roller coaster as she lets the chance at money and another interesting player convince her to continue until things become dangerous. Without giving everything away, Nerve shows what can happen when social media and the ability to hide behind a screen let people play with others lives. The characters are well done and the premise is somewhat scary to think about since we live in an era of video games on phones in every pocket with access to lives beyond the ones we really know. Definitely a worthwhile buy and I think worth more than a single watching as well

I never read the book, but I did enjoy this movie. This movie has a different style of editing that really makes it stand out. It almost makes you feel like you're a real "watcher" in the game. I really enjoyed watching the characters develop throughout the film. Although some of the plot-points seem a little far-fetched, it's one of those movies that makes you think about what you would do if you were in their shoes. It also makes you think about how reliant we are on technology and how much of our information really is out there on the web. Definitely worth a watch!

This movie felt like an updated version of the 90's movie Hackers with Angelina Jolie. With everyone nowadays on their phone using social media, this movie seemed to blend apps with somewhat hacking and possibly ruining someone's life in a well thought out movie. At first I thought it was going to be a cheesy young romance film about social media, but in turn it became a decent action/suspense movie.

I feel like this was a different type of movie. I had seen other movies about technology taking over and how it affects people's lives but I really liked the twist this movie had which was how it turned it into a popular online game. I feel like this isn't too far off from something that could happen in real life and therefore makes a greater connection with teens and young adults.

Going into it, I was mostly critical and fairly certain that I was not going to like this "young adult" movie, but when it came to the end, the film totally had me in its grasp. It had an overall deeper message that I had interpreter which made me totally love it! Sure it has its heart pumping thrills, but overall I found it to be fantastic! I was pleasantly surprised!

I picked this up because I vaguely remembered seeing some previews and being interested, but forgot about it until I saw it again in the store. I didn't know much about the plot, but it turned out to be a great social commentary on cyberbullying and the power that anonymity on social media gives someone. I wholeheartedly recommend.

I remember seeing previews for this a while ago and not being impressed. But when I ended up seeing it it exceeded my expectations. Good acting, suspenseful, and very fast paced. Ending could have been a bit better but it worked. Overall, pretty enjoyable movie.

The trailers for this film pitched the film as a fairly intense show, and the actual movie itself did not disappoint. Given today's society's reliance on technology, something like this "could" happen... but would it actually end the way this movie ended?!

Didn't expect this to be as good as it was. Despite some missteps, it had an intriguing plot, endearing leads, cool lighting and cinematography, and a neat original score. A lot of fun to watch with some nice little touches. The Blu-Ray also has absolutely excellent sound mixing with DTSX.

Nerve is a exciting, joyride of a movie. Behind a not-too-hard-to-belive premise of the online game of voyeurism and daring, Emma Roberts and Dave Franco take you on a thrilling ride of risque adventure and ponder the age old question of just how far are you willing to go for the money.

I'm not usually into these types of movies but I highly recommend this one. It is highly engaging and still relatable in spite of it being more on the sci fi genre. The movie is fast paced and the actors were great. Overall a solid movie that is enjoyable and fun.

A popular social media game tempts the players with dares in exchange for money, but the stakes keep getting riskier, more dangerous, even deadly. A very stylish movie with fun and inventive ways to keep the viewer engaged.
