we were out on deck and a candle fell over on our kitchen table inside and sent it ablaze. If we did not have the nest we would have not have gotten the alert on our phones and who knows what could have happened. I know how 4 of these in my home and recommend this to everyone I know.

Easy to install and sync up with the app on your phone. Can check status of the alarm and of CO and smoke all from your phone. Can sync with other nest alarms. A night light comes up if walking in the dark. A great purchase.

Great technology. There is a sensor that shines a nice night light as you are walking down hall. Easy to install, test...no annoying, ear piercing siren, its a voice that instructs you. However, one thing I did not read until after I installed was that it has a 10 year life. Its far to pricey to replace every 10 years and not sure why you would have to?

I was a little worried about carbon monoxide so it's nice to have a smoke detector and carbon monoxide together and it talks to me so I know my family is safe

I love this product. I'm getting two more for my house for the basement and upstairs. Great to have a device like this that monitors smoke and carbon monoxide. Definitely a buy on this one.

I got three of these to go with my two Nest thermostats. These detectors are basically 10 x the cost of the regular detectors they replaced. They are Internet-capable & glow in the dark when you walk by acting as a nightlight...an added bonus. I Had no issues setting them up. They have a pretty cool test mode that talks to you & tests the entire network of detectors. These detectors got best up pretty bad in the first group of reviews after they came out. I've had zero issues with mine.

Overall it's a good product, very easy to install. I had a issue where I set it up with my wifi name and later on I decided to change my wifi name for whatever reason. Because of that I had to re connect devices all over. Had to uninstall to get code from back. Best thing to do is copy product code in case you need to do that. Otherwise sweet device.

Such an intelligent and beautiful product. It's nice to know if i'm not home, i'll know what's going on. My NEST thermostats and Protect all link with my Dropcam for great home automation. I'm a fan.

2nd Generation of this product was released 6/17/15. I'd recommend passing on buying the 1st generation of the product.

I was able to silence the smoke detector during our most recent cooking experiment, without any complications.

The Nest Protects are a bit of a pain to setup, but once they go up they just work. When I ran a test, they all went off together just like they are supposed to do. The reason for only four stars is that only one of the units shipped had the recent software update, with significantly enhanced features. They also act as a nightlight, something my wife really wanted.

The device itself is a no brainer. A little expensive for needing to be replaced every 7 years, but hopefully will pay back in dividends. It took a little time to figure out the software configuration as it conflicted with my network firewall settings a little. Once I figured out what I needed to change in my network firewall it became easier to install the other 2 I purchased. Connecting the devices to talk to each other was really easy as well. Installing into the ceiling took 1 minute which was all fastener drilling.
